Altcoins are only a few years old and have more than 8,300 types. Due to the fact that everyone can create their own altcoin, useless and fraudulent altcoins make up a decent amount of this number. However, in general, there is a good process of their development. You just need to choose the right potential altcoins and they are able to bring profit even more than bitcoin.
Altcoins are generally durable and worth investing in, only their useless types are short-lived.

You're missing the point here.  When you look at long term, no altcoin performed as well as Bitcoin, Ethereum barely managed to get to the level of 2017 ATH, while Bitcoin already doubled it. Yeah, with good timing you can trade alts, but the same is true for everything - Bitcoin, stocks, commodities, foreign exchange, etc. But I'm not talking here about trading, I'm talking about buying and hodling for years. And alts are not good here. Nearly every alt is down in BTC price historically.

I feel all the major well known altcoins are doing great and performing as or near expectations. And we can see the strength displayed by new ones such as UNI, DOT, LINK, CAKE and many more that has increased in price in multiple folds of their IEO prices. I feel good about many of them.

but i believe top altcoins such as ethereum is a good coins to hold mate
as we see now, ethereum already break its ATH, and i'm sure other top altcoins will follow to except xrp
+1.
I am not too sure about other top altcoins, but Ethereum for me is doing great in the market, right from last year, it always looked positive to break the ath, which it did this month, Ethereum for me is the coin that makes the difference in the altcoin market, how high can it go by the end of this year? I wouldn't want to speculate, but I don't think the community of eth holders would be too surprised if it goes as high as $2000 and even higher; if you're hodling eth for the long term, I believe in my heart of hearts that you're making the right choice.

But by and large, OP is prolly correct cause majority of altcoins break down in the short term, as a result of either having reincarnated use case, pump and dump or a scam team behind them, that's why it's somewhat good to take your ROI in the short term and pull out before it crashes on you.

Bitcoin is already 20% higher than it's previous ATH: $20,000 -> $24,000

Ethereum is 2 times lower than its ATH in USD and more than 4 times lower than its BTC ATH. Bcash used to cost a whopping $12,000 at one moment, now it costs $300. XRP went from $3 to $0.6

And these are top coins, so I'm not even going to start recounting how many coins went to zero in the last few years.

It's pretty clear that holding any altcoin for years will lose your money, either by losing compared to BTC, or by straight up losing USD value.

I have seen so far quality altcoins can be more profitable only for short term and it's all depends on which kind of altcoin we have chosen for short term this is very important and the other side some people buy altcoins for long term by falling in false news and their investment ends up with loss so both technical and fundamental analysis is very important before buying altcoins for long term.

Bitcoin grows because it guides the market, it was clear that the market pump would start with Bitcoin. And many altcoins are worthless projects that drew a beautiful whitepapper and promised a lot of good things in the future.

As a result, when the market fell, many such projects depreciated. Some of them I sincerely liked (for example, ICON or XEM), but now they are at the bottom, and it is far from the fact that they will ever get out, unfortunately ...

l don't think the same about every altcoin, that is why the performance of every coin is so different. For me, top altcoins ETH, BNB, etc are the best for long-term investing. XRP can be also a good choice for the long term, but as l mentioned top altcoins are not a good choice for short-term investing. On the other hand, if you can be enough patient, you can earn from ETH by long-term investing.

the new season will boost the ETH price and the retouch can happen around $2k price. It is so obvious that the new alt season will boost the all dead and alive altcoin if the ETH can cross the $2k price tag. The XRP case is a bit complex and different, maybe the solution between Sec and XRP will be the new "excuse" for the boosted XRP price. Anyway, it is worth investing in reliable and solid projects nowadays.

Seems that it was the gaming/NFTs time to run now. Since ENJ, MANA and now SAND pumped, I guess that long-term holders should be happy.

There are still several altcoins that's worth holding, and this alts have proven themselves, for example, Ethereum is an alt but if I hold it, I would be bothered or afraid of it ever going to zero, Infact, Ethereum might even one day over power bitcoin if care is not taken, there are still some other alts that are also as good as Ethereum, but finding and investing in them is the opportunity am looking for.
But to share my thought, I believe alts also have a very bright future but not every alts, it's just the serious few that does.

I don't think so, because most coins are growing very fast, such as BTC, ETH, BNB, XRP, . They are already double their pervious price, if you invest this type of coins then already you're in loss, and other things if you invest in a new altcoin for long-term performance then you are a challenge and risk because you have to fight with the best coin. And I'm pretty sure those coins are trading well in this market, and you just waste your money with your new coin. And if you have the best altcoins then I prefer you should go with long-term performance, because those coins are profitable and give you good feedback. Maybe in the future, it's going into the sky.

Even if all these factors of the fall are taken into account, many people can make money on it, and they earn not bad money, especially in second-rate countries ... in India, Pakistan, Belarus, of course, for an American citizen it will not be interesting, because this is not the money for which you have to work so hard.

Many have waited 3 years to sell their altcoins, and are still waiting.
They fell so low in price that they will never recover to the levels at which they were bought. Bitcoin is the way out.
Buying at the bottom, of which there were already several, you can increase your capital several times. The main thing is not in a hurry.

Everyone thought that ETH will pump up after the ETH 2.0 launch well it did well for this time . And bitcoin is like the center point of crypto currency so its user base will never go down look at the market now. Altcoins continue to evolve and many of them have a real product that they serve.

Not all alts have a good long term performance, this is the reason why am finding it difficult to decide whether to hold some alts long term or short term, if you look at project like waves, link, bnb ..... etc in same category, some have appreciated over time while others have done nothing but depreciate over time, as a result of this, it is hard to pinpoint what alts can perform better in long term because it important to know this.

Bitcoin is a stable coin at all. Its rate is higher than the other coins. In this situation, it would not be wrong the Altcoin is in a down coin. Defi is most important for Increasing the Altcoin value Because in last year BTC was counted as down coin a but at the same time ALH was higher than another. So, In this calculation the legit description is the ratio of ATH value depended on the father coin value, When a father coin value going to high than the son coin.

This is the bullish time of Bitcoin, but not yet for altcoin season, There may be still waiting for the right moment after Bitcoin really reaches the highest ATH again and being quite stable at that rate. Altcoins season, I am pretty sure, will be coming., However, we are still waiting for it right now. yeah, it may be quite different from the previous alt season that was almost similar time with Bitcoin Bullrun, but his time is likely late.

Bitcoin- in bullish time
The growing number of altcoins makes the market more alive and full of competition but somehow, many were also becoming dead as they are abandoned by their developers which is also a factor that people will ignore them and focus on Bitcoin.
I'm still holding altcoin but only Ethereum, yes, I have some bounty rewards in the past but they are all dead now, that seem worthless, and not to mind them anymore.

I really feel indifferent and uneasy when it involves altcoins because one thing is clear; most altcoins are not bullish on the long term which means you just simply cannot buy the dip and hope for a yearlong pump; instead an altcoin could get delisted and perish in weeks. Only bitcoin, etherum and few other altcoins are bullish long term.
Well, I have some altcoins and tokens in my wallet. Some of them are listed and some of them are abandoned by the owner. I don't expect too much in low-value altcoins, sometimes I think that they are worthless and just a decoration in my wallet that I have these nonsense altcoins. Altcoins that on the top of the Coinmarket cap has a potential it seems good but the rest, I don't know if they are good in long term holding performance, they are just hype and perhaps they will able to gain mass adoption, but at the end, they will get dump and becomes useless altcoin.
