Bitcoin is already 20% higher than it's previous ATH: $20,000 -> $24,000

Ethereum is 2 times lower than its ATH in USD and more than 4 times lower than its BTC ATH. Bcash used to cost a whopping $12,000 at one moment, now it costs $300. XRP went from $3 to $0.6

And these are top coins, so I'm not even going to start recounting how many coins went to zero in the last few years.

It's pretty clear that holding any altcoin for years will lose your money, either by losing compared to BTC, or by straight up losing USD value.
I know there is a lot of disappointment in the community regarding the performance and price of altcoins but i think this was expected now we cannot do anything but just see btc mooning to 100k or even more and then we can expect the alts to move big but only after btc jas found new peak.

In the long term, we could see good and bad altcoins. Even though their prices have dump, they continue to survive and innovate because all crypto prices are so volatile.

I have never regretted holding several altcoins like ETH and LTC. Because there will be times for them to go up and down. The most important thing is not to buy at a price that is too high.

Anyway you look at altcoins, they are all disappointment. But still, we need to keep looking them in different ways.
Ethereum and other popular alts have not reached their all time high or not rose in comparison similar to bitcoin. But what we should also consider is altcoins are not bitcoin, they have their own use case and the price change similar to bitcoin could have an adverse effect on it's use.

They only have hypothetical advertised use-cases, and serious investors understand that and avoid them. This is the reason why institutional investors are picking Bitcoin over any altcoin.

I don't agree with the opinion that holding long-term altcoins will lose our money. Because there are several altcoins that
are great for long term investment,  so if you want to invest in altcoins you have to be able to choose the right altcoins.
My advice is to choose altcoins that have high volume, and are also popular, this will make them recover very quickly
if the price drops. But don't compare it to Bitcoin which recovers very quickly, altcoins recovery is relatively longer.

This is a poor advice, volume and popularity don't guarantee that a recovery will happen, there's no connection here. Also, the point of long-term investing isn't recovering from losses, the point is having high returns, and altcoins have no reason to yield high returns over long time - for that to happen, they would first need to actually deliver on their promises, and even here they fail. Take Ethereum for example - who uses it as a "world computer"? Ethereum team promised that everything will be moved to smart contract and centralized system will be abandoned, but the only thing ETH achieved is an ecosystem of tokens, which are mostly used for scamming.

In the long run, there really isn't much point in choosing altcoins. As practice shows, they are too dependent on bitcoin and do not recover properly after major drops.
Bitcoin as an independent unit looks much better, because in general, the whole trend of the existence of bitcoin can be called positive.

Bitcoin is really a good digital currency though it is independent on its own as currency and no one could regulate it except if the creators or founder itself would like to manipulate the system. However,  I can't be sure also if system could be manipulated because the blockchain itself had under gone 51% attack but I do not know if it was successful or not. But the good thing bitcoin remain good and that should be something we should be happy about it.

I do exclude any altcoins from being held long term. I only buy and hold them for at least a month when there is good news about their development, the rest is for day trading. After all, Altcoins are an unhealthy asset. The price movement sometimes goes against the flow due to internal factors of the company. In the past, I've lost a lot holding new altcoins.

The best investment option is in bitcoin. do not store altcoins for too long as they will lose money.
When there is an opportunity for profit immediately sell.
Although top coins like eth, which used to go up with bitcoin, are now declining.
There's no guarantee that the top coins will last very long.

And it is the same even with top 10 or top 50 alts. Long-term holding for them is really risky. But if you assess them and you are confident with yourself that you are on the right track, then go for it. Because only you can decide where to invest. But you need to meticulously assess each project you want to venture with. Because whatever the results of your decisions, is all on you. On my end, I am not really confident with alts, so I usually stick with btc.
Honestly these altcoins with high market cap is having a hard time being pumped because its potential probably already on its peak. altcoins with relatively low market cap but still not too low could make huge profit but usually very risky. I think the most suitable coin for long term is just bitcoin honestly seeing its dominance which humongous and everytime there's a good news about blockchain adoption everyone goes crazy with bitcoin.

Alt coin in long term used is still needed but you also need to researh which altcoin has a real project development. IMO these are altcoin which can still used for long time. :
1. Ethereum : its EVM will be used untill next decade
2. Litecoin : it will still usefull for payment transactio, but we will always see the high fluctiation.
3. Dash : with the launch of dash pay it will be daily use for payment
4. Steemit : it will still be used for blogging ( i dont understand why the price dump so hard )
5. SYL : for identity verification is next future ( XSL Labs )

In my opinion, trading in the long term needs to be studied, especially since the prices are now high, and if we hold and they fall, we will lose a lot.

Some Altcoins are still getting into small movements in terms of price so we cannot say that it has been consistent for the past years ever since the last bull run that have happened way back 2017. There are still. Some Altcoins that are performing well but sadly dump its price right after reaching a new price mark. Of course it is a sad thing that such performance have been prolonged and still it has maintained into that situation. For sure many of us are also having Altcoins aside from Bitcoin so we are sharing the same thought and feeling with regards to that. Better do always take into observation your Altcoins to see which are still having a chance and those who are not so you can dispose those and at least make it a part that you will gain somehow from them.

If we are talking about storage for several years, then you need to look for options for Altcoins not lower than the TOP 50.
I agree with that, as those who are inside top 50 mostly have a good community supports and the developing team are still active
developing the project and providing updates.

It's very important that you have a much deeper understanding with the assets that you'll going to invest your hard earned money

This is why many altcoins are meant to be daytraded anyway.
I've hold some ICO tokens and they went dead for quite some years now and good thing I managed to sold to the narrowest price as possible before it went flat.

That's right, I had another year holding altcoins that finally ran out and had nothing to do with. As for not all altcoins, there are still some altcoins like Dogecoin that are quite guaranteed apart from bitcoin and Ethereum. Of course Dogecoin is worth investing in until recently.

I think because of bitcoin dominance, alts have not been able to perform like people expected. In as much as major focus is on bitcoin, alts growth will be slowed Down and they will rise when BTC becomes stable. But am not so convinced that some top alts ATH will be attained. this Time. Some are still holding the alts they bought at high price because they didn't want to sell at loss. So long term alts performance is not so encouraging but its best to take profit without greed.

Not so much about greed anymore with some altcoin holders,,, at least, to talk about myself;) A lot of alts I just left them and let them die on platforms or even wallets I do not bother to open anymore. It is not that I am greedy. Pointless to go through a lot of hassle for a few dollars, but worth it to do something later if they hit hundreds. May never happen but who knows?

To be honest, I have not really given much thought about altcoins as my main investment. I always focus on Bitcoin and I always trade altcoins to bitcoin and always do my trade so that I will earn in Bitcoins or satoshi. I only use altcoins that I see tradable, in my daily tradings in Binance. I want to earn bitcoin and only bitcoin is increasing right now. I don't see that it has an impact with the other alts. Maybe in the long run but why wait when you can earn now. Research well and do day trading.

I have to admit investing in altcoins is not very safe, because until now some altcoins have not been able to return to their all time high prices.
While Bitcoin managed to reach the new all time high price at $ 24,000. So I agree with the opening post, investing in altcoins can lose our
money. Although not all altcoins are like that, there have been a few altcoins that made it to an all time high this year. But my advice is
to convert the altcoins we have into Bitcoin, to make it safer and more profitable.
