Online wallets like block chain or coinbase are safe only but still hackers are scamming in online wallets. Better you would go ahead with offline wallets, paper or cold storage to keep it safe. That is the thing i know online wallets can be unsafe but i have had a small amount in blockchain.info since i started here. I say small but we are talking a couple of btc. If you have just a small amount then as you say they are safe enough. When you get to 5 and above btc that is when send to cold storage just to be sure. If you have good security and dont surf and download from dodgy sites all will be ok. I only leave on exchanges what i could lose, they could run at anytime..

I keep most on an old mobile device, not connected to the internet and is just kept on my drawer with some passcodes needed before you can open it. Idk of that's a great thing to do, but I find it easy to send in times of need than a paper wallet.

Generate addresses offline using libbitcoin's `bx` command,

Code:
:~$ bxnew
18z7f9kWDJLFqzNp7iZfgNyXyVNiXbwWnN
Kmyprivatekeymonicas0s8e0n408svndruorvnd8ihv0dr3

:~$ ls /usr/bin/bx*
/usr/bin/bx  /usr/bin/bxnew
:~$ cat /usr/bin/bxnew
#!/bin/bash

SEED=`bx seed`
NEW=`bx ec-new $SEED`
WIF=`bx ec-to-wif $NEW`
PUBLIC=`bx ec-to-public $NEW`
ADDRESS=`bx ec-to-address $PUBLIC`

printf "$ADDRESS\n$WIF\n$PUBLIC\n"

exit 0

Create them as needed, save them on encrypted usb. Cold storage for days.

Well that's a bit... Extreme ^^'

You gotta have some technical knowledge to understand and do that! Nor really user friendly :p

the best place for you to store your bitcoins in in an online wallet like coinbase. I personally think that Coinbase is the best one for you to put your bitcoins in cause it is fast and effective
I agree with you. I think online wallets is best way to store your hot bitcoins. I didn't used coinsbase, but yes, I am also using online wallets, my favorite wallet is Xapo. One best thing of online wallets is, from anywhere we access our bitcoins.
DUDES!!!!!

That's the worst place ever! Absolutely no security! You don't own anything if it's on an online wallet I hope you know it!
They can go with your coins anytime, and if they get hack you get rekt!

dont get goxed with your "best" wallet.

using electrum and blockchain. for now. no problem to both and easy to use

I do not use the online wallets. I have a Bitcoin wallet in my computer and I use that to support the network. It depends on individual conditions.
I think all wallet need connection internet dude for using it. what do you mean about depends on conditions?
certainly if the wallet can be using without internet, I would choose it. because the internet connection in my village, it is very difficult

Wallets need an internet connection to get the current state of the blockchain and to broadcast a new transaction, but the private keys can be stored offline.
Yeah that would be good idea, because private keys are only like a heart for your wallet. So Have like this or have paper wallet to be secure your wallet and your bitcoin.

Nah... there is a big possibility that those sites might be hacked, or might go closed...they are not safe IMO.. better keep it in your wallet in your personal computer and keep it away from internet.. that would be safe..  Smiley

If I prefer to save in the bitcoin wallet (purse) online. Not on a personal computer, potential for large loss.  Shocked

Putting it on the different online sites just to make sure if one is down then I can use the other one. It is like a good idea for this wallet sites have different prices when bitcoin is moving. Trading will help here.

Just do not keep all eggs in one basket. That's one of the main rules you have to know, its the best to hold your bitcoins on multiple wallets so you can not lose them all at once by some hackers or something, its the best to do for your bitcoins.

I only use online wallets for my bitcoins.

You of course need multiple wallets for the security.

Also the online wallets are really easy as an example blockchain is very easy.
That sounds bad to me, you didn't have any other wallet like paper wallet or bitcoin client wallet?
Too risky put all your bitcoin in online wallet which they possibly have access on your privkey.
Store only small amount in online wallet to spend, and the rest i suggest to store in non-third party wallet.

For the ultimate security, I recommend following these simple Australian steps;

1. print a hard copy of your priv keys onto paper
2. laminate the paper in order to water proof it (reason revealed in step 7)
3. proceed to the nearest river or coastal inlet
4. disperse chum (chum is meat offal and blood)
5. watch for a suitably sized crocodile or shark as they approach the chum
6. roll up priv key paper and clench between your teeth
7. launch yourself at the target creature, shark or crocodile, when it reaches a position you are confident in tackling
8. wrestle shark and/or crocodile (yes, in the tropics you may have both at the same time)
9. upon achieving a suitable clench, remove priv key from your mouth and with some vigour, ram it up the beasts butt hole
10. disengage from the target whilst avoiding becoming lunch.

Now your priv keys are in the ultimate biological safe, you can rest assured that it is unlikely that anyone else will steel them (unless they live nearby, have read the article and like inspecting croc or shark arse holes).

Lol thats stupid, first I thought you were writing something interesting, but i read it through and it sounds silly.

Actually if you already laminated the private key, you can put it into a capsule, and drop it into a lake, but make sure it's anchored to the ground to not get carried away with the current.

Then come back years later and hope that it will be still there. Or you can bury it in the forest.

Do your friends call you Dill and you hang out with Doh?

Yeah both are best and safest way to store your bitcoins, as your bitcoins are safe and no one can hack or scam or stole your bitcoins, So firstly I was using multibit but I found it unsafe and risky to keep by bitcoins into it.

Im stilling running Bitcoin Core and will continue to do so, every other alternative seems like too risky to me, at least to have a software wallet wise, for long term storage a paper wallet is probably the safest if you can keep the private key hidden enough.
