I don't tell anyone anything about my money, I drive an old truck and act cheap.

I've been married twice and those are the FIRST ones to screw you...

When I travel I have a great time, live awesome and just smile.

EDIT inspired by the poster below: Family, I had a girlfriend who figured out I had a stash. Suddenly she threw herself on hard times to be "saved". Being I am, I let her crash and burn and moved on.

The first thing that came to my mind after reading this was that one should not talk about his crypto investments with strangers or friends as it can pose various risks. If you are active on forums like bitcointalk and involved in trades, you should not give information which can help others relate to your identity.
This applies not only to the BTT form, but to any forums and discords and telegram chats popular in our time.

Also, many people forget that being in public places, for example, in a subway car or bus, when you look at the screen of your mobile phone, check portfolio or when entering a password, the curious eyes of a neighboring passenger can also look into it. You won't even notice it. And remember that in some countries for urban security there are high resolution monitor through which personal can see what is on your smartphone.

This is exactly why I don't talk about crypto even with my friends. I mean, I trust them, but they might talk about it with someone else, and they will talk about it with someone else and you don't know who can hear it and decide to steal it... I think that you shouldn't talk about not just Bitcoin, but about your money at all with others, unless you have to because of work or if it's your wife or long-time girlfriend.

If you keep spreading around the world or you're beside the environment that you are using crypto and you have this kind of account and source of income seems you are saying to the public that hey I'm here with a lot of money and crypto you can see my funds this now makes you more vulnerable in the public. This could serve a different attacks as they can so they can get your funds that's the reason why if you have a bitcoin better to make an investment too at your security. Not all the time you are safe in the internet.

Call your grandparents and tell them you love them
Not only cyber criminial but people around us that has an ill-intention.  We never know whether people around us will change or not once they knew that we have lots of treasure in digital world.  They maybe good to us but we all know how greed can change people.  There are even cases where a member of the family killing their kin just to get the money by themselves.  So it is really important that we keep vigilant and never expose that we are holding that huge amount of Bitcoin or else we might find ourselves in big trouble.
There is no doubt in this. Revealing your money to others is a grave mistake and every person whom you feel to be trustworthy can all of a sudden turn their morals against you and rob you. The internet is not the place to trust anybody and in real life your own money is at ever more stake. Hence the more you keep people in the dark the safer it is for you and your assets.

The person in front may have good intentions but they can flip any time in future and there is no way to know this if you are trusting them.

It really depends on the person and their friends, when it comes to friends. Strangers, you're right. I don't know why anyone would flash their crypto holdings to strangers. Pretty irresponsible.

If you are active on forums like bitcointalk and involved in trades, you should not give information which can help others relate to your identity.

Exactly. Some of us in the community have been advocating quite a lot for a board that will facilitate the education and discussion of security and privacy. It's imperative to retain these aspects if you want to survive online and offline while trading on the forum, on bitcointalk, or anywhere bitcoin is involved.

One reason to keep your bitcoin investments private is to protect your assets from potential theft or hacking attempts. By keeping your investments secret, you can reduce risk of becoming a target to cybercriminals who may attempt to steal your funds. Some people choose to keep their bitcoin investments private in order to maintain their privacy and avoid unwanted attention. Bitcoin transactions are recorded on a public ledger, which means that anyone can view the details of your transactions if they know your wallet address. By keeping your investments private, you can maintain a greater degree of anonymity and protect your personal information.

I say, quite the case for privacy you're making, I must say! However, isnt it somewhat paradoxical? Bitcoins, inherently public yet...we insist on making them private. The public ledger, the blockchain, is intended for transparency, yet here we are, shying away from it. Food for thought, don't you think?

And...may I offer a bit of skepticism? "Keeping investments secret reduces the risk of becoming a target", you say. But, surely...that's like suggesting we should walk around with blank faces to avoid facial recognition software! A bit extreme, dont you think?

Lastly, a quick point to make...transactions might be recorded on a public ledger, but wallet addresses arent necessarily linked to identities. The goal isnt anonymity, its pseudonymity - that is, operating under a name that isnt your own.

For me this is a very important thing because bitcoin is a very valuable asset and many people who already know the advantages, if our assets are already a lot, of course the risk will be even greater and must always be careful not to be known to others, because not everyone will be happy with the assets we have, especially bitcoin which is very high in value, And some of them must have bad intentions to get the bitcoins we have, so to find safe it is better to keep the bitcoin assets we have.
If I draw conclusions, the point is not to exaggerate all things related to any media assets, because when someone starts to be successful with their work within a certain period of time, they may be hated by those closest to them. And if he still fails at his job, he might be overly insulted by those closest to him, so I concluded not to share any results in any media. So that we don't get insults and hatred from anyone, in essence, we have to keep whatever we have through our work so far.
That is very true, therefore we must be able to share or sort it out to tell anyone, not everyone has the right to know but for those closest to us it is very important to know the amount of assets and even where we store them, let's think positively about things unexpected things that happen in the future or for the motivation of others.
For me it is very important to tell the people closest to me and I even ask for a lot of input or from the investments that I make from them, they are the people closest to me for me to study and decide on good suggestions, because I believe the people closest to me love me so much that they will support and wish the best for me.

Bitcoin investment should always be kept secret because here you can't sue it if any unforeseen event happens. And in today's civilized society there are many bad people who can be friendly to you and put you in danger. So to keep yourself safe always stay away from sharing anything you have with others. I do not disclose my investment to anyone other than myself. Because I know there are many bad people around me who can do me a lot of harm if they get the chance. That's why I always stay away from sharing my personal stuff with others.
Bitcoin is now well-known to everyone, so many people are interested in investing in Bitcoin, so now almost everyone knows the value of Bitcoin, and because of this, if someone holds a high amount of Bitcoin and tells others about it, it can be attacked at any time. And his bitcoins may be demanded as ransom. Because it is impossible to trace someone's address through Bitcoin transactions and that's why anyone can do Bitcoin transactions anonymously. And for this reason, it is best not to share Bitcoin holdings with others

Of course, especially in forums like this, it's always better not to give any personal information to strangers but at the same time let's also try to be real: kidnapping someone is a serious crime, if someone does something like that it's because they know that person has a lot of money, so someone in that position should always be careful. I don't think someone would blindly kidnap the average Joe to steal $2k of BTC.
People can do anything when the greed hits them and thus staying safe on the internet needs a lot of practice and maturity. Dealing with strangers should be done in public places with backup people nearby, or should not be done at all.

Many users of this forum have dealt in public and have got to known each other well. But there will always be bad eggs here and there and you cant depend on your luck to save you everytime.

On the internet, assume nobody to be your friend. Be discreet about your money and you should be safe.

Personally, I believe that you always have to approach people with limited trust. Not only if we are talking about investing in cryptocurrencies, although it is true that the world of cryptocurrencies is specific and in this case you need to be especially careful. I consider the case described in the article cited by the OP to be extreme, but it certainly gives food for thought. Nowadays, dominated by social media, it is increasingly difficult to take care of your privacy, and unreasonable dissemination of too much information can bring us trouble.

People hate someone's life if they will see you growing and improving. Maybe not all but in my country, their crab mentality really exists and yeah,  they will ruin you and destroy you once seeing you improved. It is better to have all of our investments kept secret so no bitter people around you have a plan with that and even our family members could have an evil plan with that.

Of course, we can certainly talk about Bitcoin but never mention how much you invested in it as it will gain more interest, and wonder how this person can take that.
Thats crab mentality for you on which it is really that something that very normal for a person not to like up someones success.Although not all would really be something like this but most people does hate
when they do see you that overtaking in terms of finances and other belongings like cars or have a good looking big house on which jealousy would really be always next in line.

This is why never expect that they would really be happy on what you have achieved.Speaking about security from other people specially on strangers then it would really be just that right on having
that privacy because we know that once people would really be knowing that we are holding that much then there's always a tendency that you would really be abducted or would really be forcibly
to get those money from you on whatever means it would be. This would really be putting you up on great danger and this is why its really just that right that you should really be mindful about your safety.

Never ever make yourself get exposed when it comes to your finances and belongings on which it would really be that normal that there's someone who would really be going after you.
Its truly unfortunate that we live in a world where people can't genuinely appreciate the success of others. But I have to ask, isnt it a universal issue, rather than specific to your country?

When it comes to Bitcoin investments, I completely agree. Bitcoin's potential is unquestionable, but flaunting it is not a smart move. Its always best to play your cards close to your chest! Can you imagine what might happen if people knew about your substantial bitcoin holdings?

Regarding family members and their potential "evil plans", it does sound extreme, but perhaps its better to be safe than sorry. A prudent approach towards financial security doesnt hurt. Remember, the world of Bitcoin is promising, yet fraught with uncertainties!

I don't thinking we're all safe or 100% secured when it comes to keeping our Bitcoin related activities, one way or the other it can get out. I really don't know but what if someone with a huge Bitcoin assets dies, no one has any information about his/her investment not even the key to the wallet. Is everything going to die off like the owner?
To me I just feel is best to take that risk of telling someone you trust or believe wouldn't let you down, because is a 50/50 thing, letting your secret out is a risk and not telling anybody is a risk too. So which is best?

These days people want things to be taken pride. Even for that reason they completely reveal everything without having anything as secret. Nowadays social media main purpose is to inform to the World what you're doing. When you plan for a trip enroute to so and so location. This gives the thief, that there is no one available in the house and makes use of the opportunity.
We can't change those people until they realize that it's a wrong thing to do to flex everything they've got and even their secrets. That's a very wrong thing to do and you might put yourself into harm by doing so.

The incident mentioned in the opening post have got the similar connect. We should share the information, which can trigger the person to learn and use it in the future. Here everything have gone upside down, so we should have the mind to know about the person better before sharing information. If you find him/her different just give hints and never expose yourself.
Much better to keep distance to anyone that you don't know. Do not share things that will be against you if ever some circumstance have come.

It is okay to share for the things that you know but if it's about finances and investments, you better be careful with whom you're talking with.

no one can guarantee our security in investing other than ourselves. we must be able to set boundaries for what we convey regarding our crypto activities to other people even if it is our own family.
even though someone is still our family but we also have to understand how that person's attitude and behavior. There have been many cases of how a family deceived their own family.
please keep all our information private and never be too arrogant to tell about our success even to the point of sharing our personal information.
