We can take the average cost required in your country. So if you say the cost of living there is at a reasonable figure I think that's pretty good because it means the income of its citizens can cover the cost of living. This is not the same as in my country Indonesia. Many cases of corruption and the government that does not want to see the economy of its people have created a big gap between inflation and salary increases. Here the average salary for workers has only increased by about 1 or 2% but inflation has increased by almost 10% for some sectors. You may not be able to get that data from the internet because the media reports that inflation is only about 2 or 3%. But in my daily life I see that for basic necessities such as good rice for example from $ 1 to $ 1.1 because the price of fuel has been increased by the government.

I live in Tunisia, a country in the far north of Africa with limited resources and a small population. Tunisia is classified as a developing country belonging to the third world.

The cost of living in Tunisia is considered reasonable compared to many other countries, making it an attractive destination for many. In general, the average person can live a comfortable life at a reasonable cost in Tunisia. Housing costs, for example, depend on the city, size, and services available, but are generally lower than in many European countries. Food, drink, and transportation costs are also reasonable, especially outside the main tourist areas. However, it should be noted that the cost of living can vary greatly between major cities and small villages, and between upscale neighborhoods and popular neighborhoods. Overall, Tunisia offers a variety of options to suit different budgets.

Hi Guys,

I'm curious to know if there is a cost of living crisis in your country and if you are feeling the effects of rising goods and services.

I'm Australian, and the inflation rate in 2023 was over 4%.

I have noticed significant increases for everyday essentials like food, petrol and utilities.

The cost of petrol is around $2.10AUD per litre, which is insane.

Let's hope things improve in the near future because the current state of things is unsustainable.
$2.10AUD per liter, that’s high,
It’s not as much where am from but, am sure we are getting there. We’ve enjoyed some good days of subsidized petrol before it was removed. This was part of the move by the government to improve the cost of living from time past but, it’s amassed a lot of debts as well. The incoming government have removed subsidized petrol although it’s rumored to be done secretly and at a more cost effective rate but, the cost of living is way up.

For a country where majority of its populace live by daily, it just gets really difficult for those below the radar. Cost of food, housing, transportation, electricity bills and other utilities have tripled if not quadrupled. It’s really difficult and the people haven’t really got the means to carter for themselves.

The petrol cost and the other cost of living in my region is much lower than your county Australia but our region per capita income is also much lowers than the Australia.

And as per the current condition and after dictatorships our inflation rate is gone up and it more than 9% in the 2023. And as per the middles class peoples income it is really hard to make lead a healthy life and it's becoming more worst day by day. And from a news I heard that in the  july 25th the government print more 25k core taka so more inflation is coming in our country and worst life for middle class peoples and the lower class peoples.

I guess we all suffer due to same reasons. Not only in your country, but almost all countries have been affected with inflation. With the gas price continues to increase, rice follows, and so the rest of the goods and even services. And if you don't have a stable job to rely on, you'll certainly be begging for survival since all the basic necessities are going more expensive. Good thing I have this side hustle that pays me well. Otherwise, I would also be one of those who struggle for daily life survival.

It's really true, bro, nowadays when we don't have a permanent job, we have to do things that we never thought about yesterday, even though the job is very despicable in the eyes of humans, as long as it's open to jobs like stealing and other crimes, now with our meager income we will scream without knowing who to complain to, with members of parliament representing the people they never pay attention, society today is in great difficulty, everywhere we see many people who are depressed due to disproportionate needs and income, where the price of basic necessities continues to rise. rising along with high levels of inflation, rich people who have lots of assets may not feel the suffering of the lower classes whose daily income is not sufficient to meet their daily needs, hopefully this suffering will quickly pass in this country.

I don't want to say that it's gradually becoming a hopeless situation in Nigeria right now but that is what it tends to be at the moment because the inflation is now out of control, people who have multiple jobs were able to provide for themselves and family but right now the economy is constantly rendering all their hard work and efforts useless. The price of petrol is a major factor that disabilizes everything, this isn't the only thing causing economic hardship but it's one of them. The Nigerian government can do better than this because, we have a lot of resources and Nigeria should be swimming in abundance but it's the total opposite of that

I am a Bangladeshi, you can understand how perfect Bangladesh is for life. Still, since our own country is our own home, we are very well here. The standard of living in my country cannot be compared to developed countries because we are a less developed country and a less developed country is not comparable to a developed country. We have lack of food, lack of clothing, we have to spend a lot of money to buy anything. However, the price of petrol in your country is proportionally much higher than that in my country, but the price of petrol is still very low in your country. Even if we buy it with one dollar, we have to pay a lot more than before the price of petrol was much lower. Since the country has been freed from dictatorship, it is expected that our country will now come under the rule of the people. Until now, the autocrat has run the country very badly, but now it is understood that the country will run a little better, people will get a little relief and can buy.

The economy of several nations as we have it now is bad, most people don’t earn enough to maintain a previous status and are constantly in constant battle with bills, expenses, rents and taxes. It’s not really easy living out here in this modern world we’ve built for ourselves.

Where am from, people literally live below the minimum wage. Almost all you touch seems unaffordable as, the hike in one item is reflected directly in the other. It’s a case of survival and the country have hard to protest over the hardship still, the government remains unchanged in there agenda.

It just looks like everything has tightened up within this periods because it looks like people are not earning enough due to inflation because no matter how much you earn, you will still end up buying things of livelihood at higher prices and it now appears like nothing is moving anymore while people are trying their possible best in order to earn a living.
The governments doesn't even care about the grievances of her people when they embark on peaceful demonstrations in form of protest and they're adamant of the suffering and untold hardship the masses are facing, our economic system has failed and it looks like everything is collapsing the more. The average man barely eat talk more of the common man in the society, it's such a pity that we found ourselves in this kind of economic mess when everything would have been sorted out years back but those in government has been so lazy to have prepared a solution for something of this nature and it's sad to see more people suffering and lamenting, people have lost hopes and confidence in the government as they are even creating avenue to make things become ease for them by their selves instead of depending on the government for solutions.

I can't say what the cost of living is like in different countries of the world but in my Bangladesh the price of daily necessities is so sky high that the common people are struggling to live. The prices of daily essentials are skyrocketing and so out of control that it becomes very difficult for a middle class family member to lead a normal life.
Rice $3/5kgs, potatoes $0.56/kg, Poultry $1.8/kg, Meat $7/kg , Soabean oil $1.6/kg, sugar $1.4/kg, petrol $1.27/ltr, eggs $0.5/4pics ,
In general, it is becoming impossible for a low and middle class family to live a normal life in Bangladesh.  Corruption especially in the political circles and arbitrary arbitrariness of the judiciary are responsible for creating this situation for us.
I think almost all countries these days are experiencing extreme inflation where prices of goods and services are now inevitably high. And if you've got no job to provide you sustainable income, you'll be suffering from head to toe. But for those who have good and high paying jobs, they may still feel the inflation but certainly not that high since they can also afford those goods and services.

Inflation rate in Asia https://tradingeconomics.com/country-list/inflation-rate?continent=asia

Glad I don't belong to those several country which experiencing a hardship in life due to inflation and current situation still manageable. Maybe its better for people to not settle down with officials don't have vision to combat this problems since if they elect those corrupt officials then they might suffer for more worse economic condition. Also its our obligation to work hard and find good opportunities to combat this situation and still live a comfortable life.

I live in a third world country and the price of petrol products and other commodities are 3x that of last year, and I don't think that price will come down anytime soon. Cost of living is fucking expensive now.

Inflation is very high down here which has affected every sector of the market. Getting the money is also another problem because minimum wage has not being increased and people who are earning salaries are really suffering because their monthly salary can no longer take care of their needs. I have a neighbor that quit is job, because of high transportation fee. After he did his calculations and saw that transportation will consume 90% of his salary.

Same here, in my country prices of commodities are 3x, some are 4x that of last year, inflation has affect a lot of countries seriously, the value of our currencies has been declining due to the current economic situation, we are still hoping for disinflation to happen, but the economy is worsen day by day, what some workers spend as transportation fee is greater than what they earn as salary, a lot of people are dieing out of hunger, poors doesn't use their money to purchase things that they need now expect foods stuff and still the money are not enough for them purchase enough food stuffs.

Salaries are not enough to spend and some government are not willing to pay, the inflation that is happening day by day has become unbearable to my country people that they have to protest against the government.

Raising cost of living forces people to work more. Working more hours to buy less makes the rich richer.

It makes the rich richer and also makes the poors to become more poorer, because for instance, after working all the hours to buy less and you  fell sick due to strain and ended up at the hospital, the less money you make to feed as to be use for the hospital bill, for you to feed that very moment will become a huge problem to you, what if the money is not up to the amount demanded for the treatment and you only depend on that money, as people works more they deserve to be paid higher, so that the money should be able to feed them enough and also fulfill some of their responsibilities.

The way things are in my country has made most of our youths to start indulging themselves in some kind of illegal activities and our government is not actually doing anything which is why corruption is getting higher each day but we pray that God will always see us through and we will also try our best to survive even when it's not easy.
The reason why corruption is getting higher because those in position are also the ones involved in such crimes. They protect their fellow criminals for a sum of money. Sometimes they are even the ones directly who control such crimes. With how poor the living situation is, people have no choice but to resort to illegal activities and exploitations. Meanwhile The rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer.

Is the current situation we are living in now that is forcing some people to involved themselves in illegal activities like, terrorism, kidnapping, robbery, bribery, corruption, stealing and so on, and government has turn deaf ears about it, because a lot of people that are involved in those act are ordered by rich people and politicians, the law enforcement agencies that supposed to stand up to protect the citizens, defend them, guide them and arrest whoever commit a crime, punish them and correct them so that right of any citizen should not be neglected, are the ones protecting the criminals, because a certain amount of money was given to them to silent them, the inflation is only affecting the poors not the riches.

Such discussion has happened before. The world is now facing many economic problems and high inflation is driving up the cost of living in every country. Especially in the countries of Asia and Africa, the situation is worse.

I am a Bangladeshi citizen. I used to be able to live here very cheaply. But now it has become very difficult to live here.  Food products, clothes, house scaffolding are very much on the other hand unemployment rate is also very high.  Therefore, the middle class and lower class people are spending their days in very dire conditions. Where a person is earning $80-$300 per month, a single person's monthly expenses are $150+ so how can a person support a family with his salary.  So you think how difficult it is for me to live here and how expensive it is

I heard about the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh, the worlds economy is crumbling coupled up with Crisis in different Nations, I'm from Nigeria and a lot is happening in my country too, the average man can't afford basic things anymore cause the inflation is unlike anything we have ever seen, depending on salary alone would be a very dangerous thing to do cause you might end up in a lot of debts.. it's time to take advantage of the internet and make money from it, the presidents and leaders don't care about their citizens, so people have to make a way for themselves
Well, In my country, situation is also critical. Our government is taking debt from IMF again and again and after every agreement government applied taxes on common people. They applied taxes in the form of electricity bills and many people have Bills greater than their income. So how they will buy basic items and food is necessary part of lives and without food we cannot live and after that we need clothes to wear and also there are many expenses. But our government is corrupted and in future, the situation will be worse but there is no solution of that inflation and poor people are becoming more poorer and rich people are becoming richer.
My country has been in anarchy for years through which government party people looted thousands of crores of tk from various projects due to which the prices of goods in the country have increased drastically and the rate of inflation has increased at an abnormal rate every year. But recently the anti-quota movement forced the government to resign after 16 years in power. At present, the price of food products in the country is gradually decreasing even though the interim government is running the country. now the cost of food has come down a bit compared to before. and we are hopeful that our expenses will come down further in the coming days

I think the way things are going it would be hard to get it back together like it has always been, from my end I'm beginning to believe that cost of living is very high and is becoming a global thing. If things are not too high I don't think we would be having some citizens leaving their country to the next no matter the means.
In my country things are not easy with the high cost of transportation alone is the biggest hit on the citizens not to talk of food stuff and other things but if prices of petrol comes back to normal I believe all other things will drop price but that doesn't stop people from leaving because the hardship is just too much for some to handle and the government are just satisfied with the condition of the country and this isn't about my country but all over the world like countries that are finding it difficult to survive, what can be done to make them see the punishment they (the Government) have gotten us into?🤔

Yes the current economic condition of Bangladesh is critical due to which the cost of living of every person living in this country has doubled. The prices of food items including daily necessities have also doubled as you mentioned. This problem is ongoing not only in Bangladesh but also in some countries in Asia and Africa.

I want to hold the government of that country responsible for the economic crisis of any country just as the government of Bangladesh is the cause of the economic crisis of Bangladesh. The former Prime Minister of Bangladesh who recently resigned and left the country has given the country a huge loan to the World Bank. Which is a burden to the people of Bangladesh. In countries that loan more to the World Bank, the government of that country pays additional VAT on various food products and clothing produced in their country, as a result of which the price of those products doubles. As a result, it becomes almost impossible to meet the living expenses of the day laborers, middle class and lower middle class people living in the country.
