If you don't enjoy reading the forum, you shouldn't be here.
I enjoy reading the forum. I don't enjoy posting.  Try counting all of the individual muscle movements required just to type one sentence.

I am a Web Developer, I literally type for my job....

Ohhh, no wondering I wasn't able to post, they really should list this information rather than let us Google and led back to this thread.

It would be worth putting the Nubies forum as the first one listed. Might get people to the info they need faster.

Agreed, I spent a good amount of time trying to create a new thread before finding the newbies forum.

Well, to be honest, I think the idea is not for the newbies to make useless posts, but to actually contribute.

Idea is good, but the implementation may need some improving - most interesting discussions are outside the newbie forum (off limits to newbies) and as for "need 4 hours of reading time" - if you've read all the interesting stuff before joining while still a guest, this will turn rathet into "4 hours of occasionally reloading the pages without actually reading much of anything and doing completely different stuff in another browser window"

FUN > ROI
It's sad that you have to do useless posts before being able to post anywhere else.

Agree on this, however, forum administrators must have implemented these restrictions for a reason.

Well, to be honest, I think the idea is not for the newbies to make useless posts, but to actually contribute.  Unfortunately, there's so many that no admin could possibly be bothered to value posts, so an automated system it is - which obviously means people will just post "Hi!" "omg!" "me too!" posts in order to satisfy that part of the requirement.
All in all, I would agree that the posts limit may as well be dropped - but the time-on-forum cap still keeps out most ne'er-do-goods... plenty slip by or later turn into ones, of course Wink

why do we have to wait so long?
If you think 4 hours is long, you're in for major disappointment when mining your BTC Wink  What's the hurry?
Seriously, just keep the forum open, read, write, and 4 hours are accumulated in no time Smiley

And, I guess most people joined because they wanted to join discussion outside the newbie section (like me) ... but then they find out they can't Sad

Yeah, I'm kinda in the same boat, I've already spent several hours lurking in the forums, before I decided to join.
