Any 4 digit number, the higher the better.

Naw, bitcoin should be past or near 10K by 2025 if things go accordingly.

it will depend on how much money you think is enough for retirement and the price of bitcoin after 20 years
it can be only 10 bitcoins if you think 1Million usd is enough and price hit 100000$ after 20 years

Approximately quarter of a million dollars at current prices?
Where I stay, I can consider retiring on that now.  Smiley

We can't really say how much , can we ? Shocked If you have have 10k coin and each BTC worth 1$ it wouldn't be much for retiring of course . but if you own that amount and each BTC costs 500$ oer something , that would be more then enough . So it all depends on the price .

its assumed price would be high.. my
goal to get 1000 in cold storage

100 BTC would be enough then I guess if the price is like 2000$ .

100 btc with a price of $2000 each. What will happen if the price of goods also increased due to inflation? Wouldn't that be a problem if you solely relied on bitcoins as your retirement fund? Huh

Inflation is bound to happen no matter how tight or how well the economy is doing. But having bitcoin around with the price increase, it will surely offset any effect of inflation, that is... the rise in the price of bitcoin is more than the increase caused by inflation. I think diversification is still the best option here, whether it is precious metal, property but definitely bitcoin qualifies as one in the investment portfolio.

Depends what kind of lifestyle do you want when you get retired  Smiley And depends of the price of BTC

usually with one 1M dollars you can retire, with a decent lifestyle, i find 100 btc of a price of 10k each, a perfect solution

What if the cost of living changed drastically in the next 20 years and 1m dollars isn't worth that much? Sad

As much, as possible  Grin
Nobody knows how much BTC will cost for 20 years

Don't rely only on btc as a retirement fund because as to what you just said, nobody knows how much btc will cost in the next 20 years. Maybe it will lose its value, so instead of focusing your retirement fund on btc, why not try to diversify your investments?

Lets say I want to buy bitcoins today and store them for 20 years to use a my retirement fund.  Live comfortably, but don't need to buy a yacht or anything.  How many do you think I would need to buy?

It depends what you mean by live confortably and where; it depends on how the world will be in 20 years. Try 4 BTC, some gold and a third investment not to put all your eggs in the same basket.

think no one consider this a problem

Let's guess that the average age on here is mid 30s. If you're lucky you might consider retiring in 20-25 years.

If we also guess that BTC is a success, by 2036 over 99.6% of coins have been mined and we're well and truly into its deflationary phase. It'll get stronger and stronger against dollars or whatever your local currency is.

In 10 years we should be retired with 21 bitcoins hopefully.

Why would one assume an even greater number and rely on such assumption without factual basis or anything like it? Tbh, it's too hard to rely solely on bitcoins as your retirement fund, because no one knows if it will reach even a thousand $$ in the future or would be worth nothing in the end.

It all depends on the buying power not the price.
For example 1BTC can be worth 1000USD, but at the same time a loaf of bread can cost 100USD. The question is incredibly hard to answer as we don't know how much we'll be able to buy for 1BTC or 1USD in 10 years and the BTC/USD exchange rate won't matter.
