I think it is not the cryptocurrency is unsafe, but the hackers fraud the users by creating a phishing site, emails, that can lead to hacking events.
Maybe we just need more knowledge to protect our wallet in a safe way, so the hackers wont be able to hack our wallet.
The hackers is just the peoples who have more knowledge than you.

So we must be very careful in doing transactions or checking our accounts by not going to phishing sites that would help the hackers get our private information. As long as you never try to show off any data that related to your wallet and you will be save and remember a lot of people are getting hacked caused by they have been joining on the scam ico, project or click the suspicious link that contain the malware and their desktop wallet have infected by the trojan.
