I think that you should search for a coin that you like and that you think that it has a large growth potential
When searching for a coin you should be looking at the following parameters:

1. market cap of the coin( The higher the market cap is, the less growth potential the coin has)
2. Market status of the market it aims to conquer.
3.Developers team( Are the developers have any experience? Are they professional or amateurs, active or not active?

Always risk management, and make sure that you are not investing any funds that you can't afford to lose.

The best answer to this would always be RESEARCH. No one can tell you exactly which coin to hold as they might be bias on their views. You can start of by looking at coinmarketcap.com, click on a specific coin and check the links for their website and ANN thread in BCT. From that alone, you can get a multitude of information from the coin, and how are the updates being rolled out. You can also check their github repository for a more in-depth research of the developer's activity, although this could be misleading sometimes as they might have a closed source github repo.

Next stop is to probably use Google to find the best coin for a niche you want to get in. AS for my strategy, I always prioritize privacy oriented coins as it was what BTC was originally made for. Doing some research on the latest privacy coins, I decided to pick DeepOnion for the matter. It's currently stting a bit low in the ranking, but it's a clear sign of massive room for growth in the future. it has a similar market cap as XMR and DASH, yet the current price it is under right now is just way too low - safe to say it's really undervalued at the moment. Using the strategy as mentioned earlier, checking their site would reveal that they have a very active community, currently getting listed on more exchanges (started in Novaexchange, then Cryptopia and Kucoin rumored to be the next.), signaling a progressive project that can go to hundreds of dollars in the future. If oyu're interested in the project, you can join their airdrop to get some free coins, see deeponion.org for more details.

The main basis for any project is the team. The team makes all the work at the project, including just everything from the marketing up to the development. BTW it's a very cool thing when project makes regular weekly/monthly reports like at cardano Wink

The idea is to find out, which currencies have potential to grow and are still very easy to mine.

I think you are not the first one with this idea  Grin

If you really want to jump in early, you have to go through announcements threads. 99% are worthless, some are for short profit and a few have true potential.

When the coin is already listed on whattomine.com or coinmarktcap.com you are probably too late (depends on also on your hashpower and how much profit you want to make).

Usually i check coinmarketcap for lower marketcap coin and after that check the announcement thread, is it active or not, the dev is still working on the coin or it is already left behind. Join the slack / telegram, potential coin has a lot of activity in the chat room.
Yes, this advice seems to obvious but coinmarketcap is a very useful website. You can set various parameters and choose the coins according to them. You can also look at markets and see some market's dynamics and trading pairs. On each coin you get links on ANN thread, website and communication.
Surely you won't find brand new coins there and finding a btc lower than $1 is probably impossible, but it's safer to deal with the coins that already exist and are proved to be legit imo.
Op, as for a specific coin - I strongly recommend you to take a look at IOTA. It was lower than $1 not so long ago, but $5 is most likely still a good price if you consider it long-term. At least, this coin is the most innovative one I've ever seen in the world of cryptocurrencies.

Try to search which altcoins have the best, if not, the greatest innovations and objectives. You can also see which ones have the best applications and how they are widely used and known by the ones who uses crypto. You can easily get these informations from those altcoins that certainly have potential, your judgment about their campaigns is going to determine which one you think has the most.

I would consider alternate coins with cheap price below 1$ that has a big market capital. I think that's the key for a potential coin to have a price hike soon. Consider IOTA (MIOTA) before, it's just below 1$ but it has a big market capital and now, it has value of 5$ already. Another prospect will be Ripple (XRP) with almost the same attributes with IOTA (MIOTA). I believe Ripple (XRP) will skyrocket its market price as well in the coming days.

There is a huge need for unbiased information regarding finding coins with potential. the related question is "where to find a community with less noise and more good information?"

The first thing is to ignore the noise in the space and do your own research, I see alot of people with herd mentality, alot of rough diamond in the space that you can pick up at good value and hold for mid to long term gains

you are doing a good research. My two cents: try to find something interesting and
some use case (at least a practical future use case) with a price way below 1$.
0.001 would be great and also 0.01...those coins are more probably doing 10x and 100x
because of the low starting evaluation in $

Currently I am doing research about altcoins.

The idea is to find out, which currencies have potential to grow and are still very easy to mine.

I already fail at finding a source for freshly released altcoins. There are several websites that list all announced coins, but it would be great to get some details about their potential. Of course I read discussion boards but my experience is that most of the comments are rubbish.

The goal would be to find coins like bitcoin in the early stage where its value was below $1.

I know it is all about luck! But I would appreciate if you could share your sources. Like blogs, discussion forms, serious news sites etc.

How do you decide which coin to mine? How do you research about coins to decide if they have potential
You want to look for potential coins that are like bitcoin? you will not find it again, look for potential coins that are like monero or dash

You need some experience and knowledge, most people talk about bitcoin, monero etc but with trash coins or centralized ones ripple, heavly premined ones, people made more money

You are right, it is kind of experience and knowledge and different people have different strategies, I think one way is to check the ANN thread on this forum to see if it is hot. Hot means has a lot followers, that means potential to pump.

A lot of garbage is now on the market. Crypto coins that do not cost anything, but there are also projects that are worthy of attention. I missed the opportunity and sold for the penny Efirium blue. I consider it now a very good project.

Its requires a lot of researching pick the coins which has existing product that is usefull to the real world, plus pick ones with cheap prices if you want to invest small and earn big start with the coins with prices less than a dollar, the coin must have a good technology and developers, and most important has good partners.
agreed theres a lot of things to consider, price, technology and most important the developer team.
