Some Altcoins really do have a huge potential in the long run but considering the number of fishes presently in the Altcoin Ocean, some are really not going to see the light of the day later on. Competing with bitcoin though, is just one very long dream for any Alt at the moment or even in future, they still have a long way to go competing with themselves and only those with a solid team and some relevant product to keep the coin going will end up being in the market, while a lot of them on the top 100 right now will even still get pushed down further.
One thing is we cannot see the future of any coin, but we can at least be hopeful that a coin ends up having a future based on the project and the team but nothing is guaranteed.

You learn the product first. Is it realistic or not?

Then see the developing team experiences and qualifications, are they successfully comlepted what they have told in roadmap. What are competitors , are they big threat?

Log to thier telegram, twitter, fb and see how thier reactions, what community are saying,

Then decide the future

Yes, you are right. Investment on altcoins is risky with high payback. And I think it is a good investors to hold some btc or ETH as long term investment since the future is bright.

Any investment is risky, and in the cryptoworld risks usually come at a larger scale because it involves money and time. Hodling on some Bitcoin is definitely a wise choice. But i would suggest a few good altcoins too like Ethereum, Ripple and Stellar, these coins give good profit from time to time.

To see the future of any altcoin you must know a lot about cryptocurrency and read much about each alt. You should learn to compare different coins and find real diamonds among small alts. You must constantly monitor the changes on crypto market and make your own conclusions based on the ups and downs of coins. And much, much more, sure.

One of the key important features of good alt is decentralization.

Maybe thats why XRP is going down non-stop - because it is developed for banks (wich are classically centralized as hell).
i believe in KMD and all other decentralized coins with good privacy.

These are very dark times for altcoins due to Bitcoin show. I think some coins will show a pump trend again in the future. It's been a while since we saw some real rise trend for altcoins anyway. Also, big investors will want to increase their btc. In order to do so, they need to bring some pumps into altcoin market again.

Is there any alt coin become scam, umh, I mean that alt coin maybe disappear from exchanger site or the price too low -- lower than 1 satoshi--?
What is better comparison for alt coin rate? bitcoin or usd or our local currency?

All these moments decide the fate of altcoin in the future. Now you can often see a sharp drop in prices after ICO. Since the price is artificially overstated. Only time can put everything in its place. To remove the husks of marketing, to dispel empty promises. And then you see the real future of a particular coin.
