Hello everyone...

Hopefully this is the right place to post something like this.

12 ETH was sent to a new Metamask wallet, and the seedphrase written down. We have all 12 words.

But when we try to restore the wallet, all associated addresses seem to be empty.

Does anyone know any software too partially crack Ethereum seed phrases? (Try combinations of similar words)
Same sad story for newbie to visit phishing address. This same story repeat by new members. Several times experts suggest to visit legit address and check several times. Another thing should check before send coin, login your wallet to check 12 words or private wallet is perfectly noted

As explained above, quite a few times now:
1. I have a 12 word seed. It appears to be wrong. I suspect there is only one word (the 3rd one) that is wrong.
2. This is a problem I am helping solve for a FRIEND

----
Updates:
I started a 'btcrecover' program to try bruteforce the broken words, but I have no idea how long it will take. (So far seems to be taking quite a while)
So this friends of yours lost his seedphrase? And you think that only 1 word that is wrong. Not to be rude or something, but how did you or your friend knew that the 3rd word is the wrong one? Does that mean you remember correctly the other ones? That is why you have to always save the unique phrase in somewhere safe but you could retrieve them whenever you want to. Piece of advice, always double check everything you've wrote down especially if it's an important things.

As for the tools to crack ethereum seed phrases, if such tools exist, don't you think it would make the wallets easier to be hacked by hackers..

Are you the real owner of the 12Eth? Why would you want to crack the phrases this quickly when you can still try other methods? If phrases are that easy to guess, don't you think Ethereum will be at risk

It's obvious you copied the wrong thing. When it comes to taking note of back up phrase or private keys, carefulness is needed because once created there is hardly anyway to crack it. Mostly we are talking about Ethereum blockchain is one of most secured blockchain. So I will implore you go back and check the words again and maybe check where you have written other word seed might be you are using another for it. I have not heard of cracking Ethereum seed phrases.

When you search by public key on https://etherscan.io/ , does the amount you send appear there? If so, match the public keys when you access the wallet. Maybe you try with other wallet seeds. If this is not the case, share more information about the transaction.

No way to crack it now. You should copy and paste that seed phrases to notepad or something like that and save it carefully. But what happen with your old metamask? You can find the way to access it through your password, then export again the seed phrases. I think it's the only possible way now.

If you really write down the 12 words by yourself then it means you wrote the wrong thing. My little advice would be to check each word, and most especially the spelling, that's where the mistake might be. That is, you might have written color as colour, something like that. Next time, ensure you cross-check those 12 words and if possible write them down twice.
right, a 1 letter error can cause us to fail to access it. what I usually do is copy and save it, and if I need to access it I just copy and paste, this is to avoid writing errors. but if you feel you are correct but cannot access it, I think it is difficult for that, especially if there is no recovery option
Letter? If there is an error in one letter then the seed will not be accepted.
I think what you mean is there is an error word that he has copied. But as far as I know, you cannot open a wallet using a seed with an incorrect word on it, there seem to be an unknown error when he created the wallet and it's really hard to determine the issue if there is no images that we can see to help OP with his problem.

Who are 'we' ? is someone there with you when you created the metamask wallet? anyways even if its been stolen there should be history of transactions sent from the wallet, can you provide the eth address?

My friend. As explained above.

Sorry to hear, i believe you download the wrong metamask version and you got your coins stolen, i won't even recommend the metamask because it works as inbrowser plugin which is not safe at all

The coins are still in the address that it was sent too. They have not moved an inch.

It is very unlikely that your seed has been hacked or cracked by someone if you did not make a mistake. My assumption is that you must have used fake metamask which was discussed a lot yesterday. This is clearly your negligence.
On the other hand, somehow I do not really believe in metamask because its use is only installed on the browser. Which could be a bad person copying it to take your keylogger whether it's seed, mnemonic, and privkey. Try to be more careful next time using a wallet other than metamask like Trustwallet for mobile devices and use MEW or hardware wallet if you are using a PC.

Very unlikely to break the seed of a coin like Ethereum. Sometimes we have saved the private key or seed and we forget if ever wrong to squeeze the letters and seed replaced add 1 letter.
Lost already from the seed created a new wallet because no one used the seed. So it is difficult to crack a private key or a seed to restore your wallet because they can not access your wallet too.

I found this software - BTCRecover - https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover/

I am also sure that he used the correct version of metamask.
that software will not help you a lot. How it is possible? as far as i know, before you create a new wallet and then metamask will give you a pop up to save your seed phrase into a file. you should ask him if did he already downloaded it or not?

That doesn't make sense if he was not trying all of the options to store his metamask. there will be a million possibilities to crack your seedphrase and that will not help you to recover your seed phrase again. If you have been losing it and there is no way to recover it.

So many people have been talking about this, some already made a request to add an export feature for metamask and the dev keeps ignoring it.

I do know 12 words though. I suspect the 3rd one is the one that is incorrect, there is no way to bruteforce it?

Not possible to crack seed words. I do not think any software can do that. Check once again the address where you sent those ETH and then try once again. Otherwise forget it.

Why is it not possible?

That's a bummer. You might have written a part of the seed wrong. There's no way (There is but it is near impossible to do so) for you to crack it because if ETH were to be crackable, then why use it. Try to check if you have a screenshot of the seed hidden in your folder because that's what I do just in case.

I don't know if btcrecover works on ETH seed, I only know it used for brute forcing password.
