Thank you all for your concern! I mean it! I really think I practice good OPSec up until this lapse of judgement. I ‘just had to see if it would work’ when I plugged my BTC filled Ledger into the Electrum wallets. I had spent the previous day using all my previous seeds, where I thought the BTCP/BTCD was located, to no avail. Now I’m up shit creek without a paddle. I pray those in control of my BTC now see my pleas for help and find it in their heart to send it back. Lessons learned include spreading out my BTC in multiple seeds, move my BTC before attempting to split a fork, and never plug a Ledger into a forked wallet with my BTC seeded in it. I’m open to other forms of OPSec criticism as I’m sure I could improve elsewhere.

I got into Bitcoin last year to rid myself of the Fiat Debt based slavery system. I suspect that’s why a lot of you are here. I’ve put off marriage and kids for the past ten years to do the responsible thing, work hard, and save.. Bitcoin came along and made a lot of sense for self sovereign control of my future. So I liquidated my retirement paying big penalties last year. All in BTC. Risky yes and I thought I had the risks handled. Obviously not. I need to improve.

It it utterly terrifying to be so beyond out of control of my destiny right now. A complete 180 from my headspace over the past year. At this point there’s got to be one person in this world that can help me. I am at their mercy. Please, I’m begging from my knees.

I'm very sorry for your name. It's an incredibly bad thing. 13 Bitcoin is a lot of money. Whatever it is, it's a money you have to give up. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who prefer to steal money. Easy money makes these people crazy. I guess they do not even think about what people are buying the money for. We must always be careful not to stay in this situation. It is very important to keep passwords and private keys in crypto coins. Whatever it is, it is the information that should not be shared with anyone.I'm very sorry for your name. It's an incredibly bad thing. 13 Bitcoin is a lot of money. To the OP, I am really sorry for your loss, but thank you for sharing your experience as I think it's goo to share the good, the bad, the ugly so that less experienced people can learn. I feel like what happened to you is something that could have happened to me as I tend to do things in a rush (though, to be honest crypto ha helped me become more detail oriented a now I double - and even triple - check everything).

Cautionary Tale: I messed up. Big time. Please don’t pile on harder as I’m already sick to my stomach.

NEVER EXPOSE YOUR BTC KEYS/Seed to an forked wallet.

Two days ago, I attempted to split my BTC Diamond and BTC Private. I could not get it.

At some point, I exposed my Ledger Nano with my BTC on it, to each of their Electrum Wallets.

Last night, my wallet was emptied of ALL my BTC, 13+ coins.

Here is the transaction.

It appears that I have now lost my entire life savings. I’m not begging for a handout but rather attempting to warn anyone new to the space. I’m sick to my stomach with the loss and my only hope is to gain the attention of the culprit.

If you have any space in your heart, please return the BTC. I’d accept a fraction of what was stolen. Please don’t completely bankrupt me.
Aw, this is really damaging. The hard work you put in were all wasted and gone. Thanks for sharing your experience to us so that we will be more careful about the things we have in this industry most especially to the keys. I feel sad reading your story because if I were in your place I think I lost most of my life. But sir, please don't give up in life, you can always double your work. You can do that sir, just believe and everything will be fine again.

Firstly, I'm sorry for your loss. That's a lot of money.

This story scares me quite a bit actually because I could see that happening to me one day; I know I'm not smart enough to avoid similar situations myself.

I'll do my best but the only advice I can give myself would be not to rush, take my time to do research and due diligence first, then test small amounts before I commit a large amount.

Someone I know on the forum creates 'sandboxes' for bitcoin transactions. I though that was a bit extreme but it makes complete sense when I hear stories like this.

It makes me feel sick to my stomach to hear your story. I'm so sorry Sad

So sorry for the topic starter... Sad

But why, why would you store ALL of your savings in BTC? It's cool and promising, I know; but also very new and volatile. Why?

TheShillBilly: do you realize exactly the mistakes you made, so others can learn ? I'm asking because the fact that you exposed your key to a forked wallet is not reason you lose your coins. In this case you can easily go after the GitHub user IP and track him or report this to authorities. There was a similar case like yours and police was able to catch the bad guy. Have you scanned your system for viruses ?
Don't desperate, there are ways to recover funds if you do proper open-intelligence research.
For community sake, hopefully you get your funds back!

Seriously? If that happened to me, I will find myself crying on the corner of our house. Thirteen bitcoin is not that easy to earn. If I know that I am holding that amount in my wallet, I would like to cash it out as soon as possible. I feel that my wallet very attractive to hackers. So cash it out in order to secure it much more. Better to deposit it in a bank or better to keeo it in my house. I am also careful to open my wallet because there are so many fake sites. Better to check the address first before logging in.

As an additional warning to those that are new to the space...
If the amount of value that you are holding in crypto is such that you would be devastated if you lost it all, then you are holding too much value in crypto.
These are experimental, volatile, and risky protocols.  Do not risk your mental and emotional well-being.

You mean that such a huge amount of money should be kept in fiat? I also think so, but what about all this "hold until it's gold" stuff?
Personally, I don't know how people manage such huge sums. If I had something that the OP had, I wouldn't trust anyone, especially in this non-regulated crytoworld, I've heard stories about exchanges running away with their users' money, about people being just robbed while trying to buy/sell their crypto in a personal meeting. Holding would be my only option as I would be too afraid to go to fiat, lol.

ouch im very very very very sorry to hear what happened to you, i can not imagine if that will happened to me, but your mistake is you put all of it in one wallet, be reminded specially all newbies that use not just one wallet and never ever use your storage of btc in other trading or any platform that will require your keys, im using ledger too, but im not using it on other transactions just by withrawing and holding.

Sir/Mam get a grip you will sure get over and REMEMBER: YOU CAN EARN MORE THAN THAT, nothing is impossible just don't give up.

I guess you know this by now, but for others that read this...

You made 2 big mistakes:
1. You kept too much money in one wallet.
2. You tried to get forked coins without moving out your real money away first.

I'm really really sorry for your loss Sad ... 13 BTC wow....

Get together and think on the future. With some skill and luck you'll build up another money. You have to.
We can just support you since 13 bitcoin is very high value but i think you have big stressfull today.
Those above mistake should be learned by the other to avoid such of this problem. Everybody dont know to loss like this so we must avoid suc mistake.

Unfortunately. Hackers and scammers exist around this market. That inadvertently reduces the development and popularity of users with bitcoin. Men, stay healthy and start from scratch. I can not identify anything by my expertise and experience does not belong to it. That is a really worrisome warning. I have stored BTC in blockchain and biffinex. Is it really safe? Embarrassed

It's a massive loss for you, If I were you then I would be also devastated as like you. But there is no word to condole your such a loss. But this is a lesson for us regarding the backup system for our code. We have to keep our BTC or another blockchain address very carefully in a safe location. we can choose more than two location for the more safety.

sorry for your loss dude. The moment I read it, it feels like I am the one who just lost the entirety of my life savings. The cyber world is full of loopholes and people willing to do anything just to break in the hole. It never is a good idea to go ALL IN when it comes to bitcoin. I do hope that the culprit is here in the forum and take notice of your plea. 13 BTC is no easy money to earn, I hope he will be reminded of his conscience and return your savings, if not even if just what he wants to return.

To the culprit: hacking is easy, breaking into the system is easy. but dude, this one is basic, that money you have, it is not yours. step up and do what is right. sheesh
