He had his funds stolen because of the fork. Exactly how did the theft take place?

That is a huge amount and I'm extremely sorry for your loss, but I don't think they'll return your money. Even I was scammed here by bitvigo and I was as helpless as you're I could do nothing about it.
In your case if you had purchased it via bank and filed taxes or if no taxes applicable you could approach your IT cell and ask them to investigate.
File a case under Jon DAE (a case against Unkown persons and hope for a miracle, I could not recover my coins I hope you're able to recover yours).

I think that is the biggest mistakes that you made because you losy you entire wallet that have a 13 BTC? If you convert it now to real money 13 Btc can also be a million. I think you must find a way to get it back because that is so big amount of money.
That's awful man, sorry to hear it! It's good that you at least shared this so it can serve as a warning for the rest of us. Move your coins to a new wallet before using your private key to claim forked coins. Where did you find the client that stole your coins?
It's a lesson worth for all of us to stay safe against MEW before you do anything because it will make you regret. Thanks for sharing to remind others to be careful. Although, I do not think the hackers will return.

Sorry dude.There is no way to get your BTC back, i advice you not to put too much BTC in one wallet, you have to spilt your BTC in several wallets , exchanges. So i think that will help you secure your life-saving. Cyber crimes are all around.
One lesson if using a hardware wallet is to only use software approved by the hardware wallet manufacturer.
This might not help too much but you could try at least with a new cryptocurrency called Brickblock where you just join their website and follow them on twitter and you are already making money, you should try it out

Sorry for your loss, and hopefully some can learn from this experience. The market is still young enough that you can bounce back somewhat if you continue investing and securing your coins properly.
All I can say is, wow that's a lot of money. Anonymity is really a double-edged sword. I'm really sorry for your lost, and I hope the culprit/s find it in his/her/their heart to return your hard-earned money. I mean, that's really tragic man.

It also served as a lesson to all newbies out there, that they need to be extra cautious in putting cryptocurrencies into their wallet and that they should ensure that whatever device they are using is secure and free from malicious programs that criminals can use to get access to their account.

Seriously? If that happened to me, I will find myself crying on the corner of our house. Thirteen bitcoin is not that easy to earn. If I know that I am holding that amount in my wallet, I would like to cash it out as soon as possible. I feel that my wallet very attractive to hackers. So cash it out in order to secure it much more. Better to deposit it in a bank or better to keeo it in my house. I am also careful to open my wallet because there are so many fake sites. Better to check the address first before logging in.

This lesson is not only for the poster, but for all of us. Sorry for the huge loss. But it should be carved in everyone's brain: be careful when you want to claim the fork coins. Most of them are just shit, and don't worth your risk of losing all of your bitcoin.
