In my opinion, best alt coin safe to hold for a long time is definitely Ethereum. There are tons of alts exists in the cryptosphere now and to be honest we know not all of them will succeed. only hold on to those you have thoroughly researched and trust the team behind it.

If you are interested on investing altcoins then the best thing to do is invest on ethereum coins right now because the market prices are currently dumping so you will surely earn a huge amount of profit when the market goes back to normal.
Ethereum is best choice because has strong team member and community. The team founder also consist of professional people who always to make better their product. They also will solve scalability issue in crypto community , Vitalik Buterin is jenius and will solve scalability issue in Ethereum network by use Sharding and plasma.
i suggest you to hold on top 50 or top 10 on the coinmarketcap list, we have learned that the top ten cryptocurrencies on the past year are gave return on each.

I have two portfolios. One is my longterm holds that I'm not touching this year. The other is for fun trading and moving funds around between shitcoins and flavors of the week. For my longterm portfolio I have almost equal amounts of Iota, Stellar, and RaiBlocks. I believe this year the value of this longterm portfolio will 10X.

If you want to hold cryptocurrency for a long term, you must invest on the technology, price, team effort on marketing and how popular it is in the market by its market cap. I suggest Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple and Tether for this matter. Add Kucoin Shares if you want some passive income.

i only suggest you for investment on bitcoin or ethereum for long term investment. both really has a future and their community always increase so far. many investors interested to both. that's why i believe to them.
For an altcoin, I will advice you to stick to ethereum as it is the highest coin and only coin that can be compared to bitcoin on market. If bitcoin (which is highly impossible) fails, ethereum is the next coin.
ETH, LTC and ETC are good Altcoin to hold. They have been tested. Their development capability is very rapid. I think they are the most stable Altcoin I have met. They have become the best in their class. And indeed, to get a great profit, the best thing to do right now is a long-term investment.
