In the end of 2014 we decided to make a shift from being an exchange only for "pro" traders to an exchange which is easier and more appealing to use. That resulted in a rebranding from icbit.se to orderbook.net along with a totally new React-based responsive website.

As part of this plan (and we have more features to come), we decided to launch weekly futures. The first one will be settled against Bitstamp, and later we shall see what short-term traders prefer more - Bitstamp or Bitfinex.

We have at least one liquidity provider who provides at least $100k worth of contracts on both sides during US business hours. More are welcome, there is always a place for liquidity providers.

As a promotion, this contract has no fees - neither trading, nor settlement. Absolutely free to trade, and there are no fees for depositing or withdrawing your bitcoins.

Is there a guide on how to use the platform?

For instance, what is the bid price and what is the ask price? and what various contract represent?

We'll do an official guide soon, and in the meanwhile you can read this: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/unofficial-icbit-btc-futures-trading-help-faqs-164255 and ask any questions here.

Update: Bitsurant.com published a nice guide called ICBIT Trading for Dummies.

I'cant understand how is "initial margin" calculated?

Can you explain it for me?

Right now it's a max possible loss within one trading session (e.g. when buying at the highest price and selling at the lowest). Soon it's going to be more complicated and reduced to allow more leverage.

I have a question about security of funds (both margin and running profits). Do you have any plans to implement 2 of 3 multi-sig on margin and profits? Otherwise, what protection is there against ICBIT insolvency?
Many thanks
David

Majority of client funds (more than 99%) are stored in the cold wallet. For safety reasons we are not exposing these addresses to the public, neither the amount of client funds we hold.
For withdrawing, we provide an optional two factor authorization protection, using GAuth.

That's exactly what the futures contract is for.

If you got paid with $1000 in Bitcoins (100 BTC in our case), then you need to sell 100 futures contracts for at least $10 (or higher) price to fix your BTC value in USD (e.g. if BTC rate drops to $5, then you would get 100 BTC in profit, however, if BTC rate goes to $20, then you would loose 50 BTC, however remaining 50 BTC will still cost the same $1000 bucks).

Please feel free to ask any questions. The delay with answer was due to Bitcoin2014 conference in Amsterdam.

I have a problem. Say I get paid 100 BTC with $10 per coin, which makes it worth $1000 today. I convert that to $ but in 1 month or some time in the future, I want to buy back 100 BTC at $10 per coin for the value of $1000. The problem is that in one month the price of Bitcoin might change. So I want to know how much it would cost me today to get insurance against the change in price of bitcoin one month into the future. I do not care about profits nor losses related the change in price, I just want to avoid any change.

Is this possible to do on ICBIT with a futures contract. If yes, then how? Could you please tell me where I could see how much this insurance would cost me today as a percentage of the amount of BTC I want to insure. Thanks.
