IT depenfs on when you invest. Investing in a ICO while a bullmarket, is a good idea, because when they got listed on exchanges, they are mostly higher price. When theres a bear market like right now, i would wait for an invest in ico. I would wait untill the bounty dump their tokens. Then you can get the tokens for 25% or less of the ico price. But in some ICO's this do not work. They are some really hyped icos with no bounty pool and which are sold out very fast. On this ICO you have to be very fast!

it depends on research where to invest , ico is risky because there are lots of chances that the project cant run in future. famous altcoins are already listed but there price is on hike so investors who have minimum finance they cant get huge profit from altcoins.

I would rather pick both. Just diversify your crypto investment as much as possible. ICOs have higher risks but it also have higher chances of bigger return in short term as there are already bonuses.

Thank you for the advice. If the project is successful you have the big possibility to earn more. It is truly risky, but the chances of getting bigger profit is in ICOs. We will just research and have enough knowledge about the project we will be joining. And most of all pray.

I choose famous coins than ICO coin for investment purposes. Bad experience with ICO coin make me leave it because lost value almost 60% from my money is not good. ICO coins doesn't have situation like this and most them only follow the famous. Take time to research some information and you'll see the different.
I think it all depends on the project, but here is my opinion: you have more risk investing in ICO, but potential to make a lot more money. You have less risk investing in popular alts, but they also have less room to grow quickly. If you are good at investing and understanding when a project is likely to become valuable, then you will do well. If you blindly invest in scams or projects that are too large and will likely never make it, then you are going to lose a lot of money. It's very dependent on the factors and how much time you are willing to put into research. Investing in ICO has been very pretty successful for me, but so has investing in alts.
