Bitcoin price fall : For the same reason than the above reflexion, seeing that Satoshi has moved its bitcoins will create a panic as never seen. Imagine what could be said. People could say that Satoshi is back, but his bitcoins too. Those bitcoins that were never put on the market could from a second to another being put to sell on an exchange, and considering how big his stack is, the fall will be hard
The price fall is not a given
Unless he actually starts wildly selling his bitcoins (and he has somewhere around 980,000 of them, just in case), the effect might be quite opposite, i.e. price might actually surge on the euphoria that peeps might feel when they find out that he is still alive and kicking. Or it may rise when he decides that he is going to become a benevolent dictator (like Linus Torvalds of Linux fame) and direct the development of Bitcoin from now on
I agree with you, but we're not in the same case, so here comes the difference in our visions. I had the contradictory vision that in that argument he would simply move its bitcoins without revealing himself on TV shows and in the case of veneration he would have. You're taking the option that he would. That's sure that if he comes and reveals himself to the world, people might sense that Bitcoin leaderless boat has now finally found back a chief to lead it. But if that's just a blind move, people could considering many things, including that he has been killed and someone seized its bitcoins and that they might been dumped at any moment.
He would be the target of greedy people wanting to acquire its bitcoins : I don't know how much bitcoins actually does possess Satoshi, but with just one million of bitcoins, he would be the proud owner of a fortune worth close to one billion dollars at actual rate, so of course people trying to kidnap him would be something common, if he's not simply killed
With all his wealth, he could just hire a couple of gorilla-sized bodyguards, and that would solve most of possible problems
Yes he might, and that would probably solve any kind of kidnapping, but that doesn't exclude the possibility to be killed a la Kennedy, even if that's surely an abuse of polician series that make me think that
. However, given how he seems a discrete person, he would not like being so closely followed by guards, but that's just my opinion on its personnality.
Bill Gates is by far wealthier than him, but how often do you see him closely surrounded by bodyguards?
Bill Gates has an instutional fortune. I mean he doesn't have its wealth kept in let's say a safe or in masterpieces paintings. Kidnapping him would be pretty useless, as you might get a bounty for the release, but you'll probably get caught, while if you discretely kidnapp someone, you can them just ask him to open the safe and just take the gold bars. Here the safe is the metaphor of its Bitcoin wallet, and gold bars of its bitcoins.
