I would rather invest in several trusted coin traded funds than start mining.

I would buy coins and the reason is I dont actually have time to take care of mining equipments. it may be better than to HODL but HODLing is the easiest way to make profit..

I will invest the half into mining so i can have a passive income which is a great way to have a stable source of income and even the coins that i will put the half will not get a good performance in the market then i will not feel bad because i have mining which will give me consistent profit each and everyday.

There is no small budget to start investment. It will be a good start for you.
It's not late to invest in crypto coins. Split them to 5 and go to coinmarketcap. Invest them directly to top 5 coins in same ratio of coin cap.
Then you will be a happy man after 2-3 years.

If you had $50,000 to invest into mining, or coins...

Would you GPU Mine, or buy Asics?
What percentage would you put into altcoins?

I'm curious to see how others would spread their money.

For me, I would probably start with half GPU mining, half Asics.  I'm new though so I'm not sure what is best if I had that type of money.

If you buy coins you dont really need to do anything.

If you buy GPU cards you will need to first everyday search for best profit coins. Everyday search for most efficient miners. Everyday sell your coins to pay electricity.  If all that interest you. It is way better to mine. If you would get bothered with that and you would do it sloppy then is better to just buy coins. Since you might miner with bad miners or mine wrong coins and pay electricity more expensive then you would selling of coins bring you.

I don't see any use of ASICS and gpu miners now a days. Starting from the scratch is just not the good way to go in this era. If you would have offered this much money few years ago then I would have sat up whole rig with two three dozen of ASICS and maintain it. But for now that option is closed and we must choose the right and profitable path to invest money.

With that amount I will have most of the bitcoins and few top most altcoins covered as my investment. I will keep rest of the share as fiat and will watch the potential coins in the future as new ICO will coming everyday. On top of that I will use that fiat to buy bitcoin when it will fall very much below.

So just trading and investing but no mining for sure.

If I were you I would deversify that amount 50/50 to ASICS and CRYPTO. But you still need experience to choose the right coins to mine and to buy. It would take all your time Wink

Cloud mining exist, you could use that service to mine a coin that you know is going to rise in price in the long term and something personal I would do is to take $1000 and spread it out on some promising, small, new altcoins, worst case scenario you lose 5% of your $50k.

It's a big amount of money, if you were to consider mining you should have a big room, a nice set-up, good computers and some good people you can trust to maintain your computers from functioning well. If ever you will invest, you should diversify your investment and choose the best coin to invest in.

If I were to use that amount of money, I would just invest it to coins. Mining in our country is not advisable, electricity is to expensive in our country. I would just diversify my investment and choose coins that are worth investing. Most of it would be invested in bitcoin.
but if not in such a hurry and just love to hold mining also will give you a lots of opportunities especially if you will going to mine alts that will grow
after some years, maybe split it up into 3 parts mining , holding btc and alt trading.

If I have 50k, I would invest it in Spectre ICO. With the model they have couple with the singular mission of broker less platform. Once they are able to build this platform and deploy it properly, my 50k would become 5million.

You should buy a good amount of altcoins and some good mining machines! But you should choose a lot a bags, never go all in at one coins!

Well the question was either or so I'll answer with my opinion.  For me, I'd invest it and not mine; mostly because the space, energy, and time it takes to get a mining setup to consistently deliver profits.  If you already have deep mining skills and understand the setups, and also the logic behind deciding most profitable coins, and access to low cost or free energy, then maybe mining is the way to go.

For me, I don't see mining as something you purchase and walk away from, it's something you have to manage and work at.  Since I've chosen investments, this is what I'd do with my money.  I'm a pretty conservative (for crypto at least) investor I'd create a short list of mostly stables coins:
  • Bitcoin
  • Ethereum
  • Omisego
  • Dash

I'd put 40K of the 50K into those.  Then I'd create a highly speculative list for coins I see could 'moon' over the next year or so:
  • NEO
  • Monero
  • DeepOnion

Then I'd go to TradingView and setup alerts for when the prices crash (because they always do) and use those to purchase the above list of coins.

I think minning with help of asics will be more profitable than investing in altcoins. In mining you can expect returns in less time as compared to investing which requires more time for a good return.

I don't have that enough knowledge about mining though I really wanted to try that one out though, but would cost much to set it up and the monthly bill for your electricity should be something to think about too, so if I had that amount of money now I think I would rather spend it on coins. Probably dividing it in half, half would be for bitcoin investment and the other would be for other altcoins that have potential.

If I had $50,000 dolars, I would start with GPU mining and mine altcoins only. I would invest at most 10,000$ on GPU mining. I would not invest onto asic mining since it would be hard for me to ming with GPU and ASIC at the same time. I would put 30,000$ on bitcoin and hodl it for long term. Lastly, I would invest 10,000$ on altcoins that I trust and on some of the TOP coins that are sitting in a pretty low price that I have took an interest into.
