i think if we are in your situation that is also the reply that we are going to make but you forgot something .
you should include that if he sells make sure he only sell sufficient amount according to his needs and left some to hodl so that he can get something later on and also he must buy back if he have a money again  .
judging on your friends reply i guess that he isnt urgently need the money because he says that he can wait a little more .
well, at this time I also understand that when we want to sell an asset that we have at a time when the price is high, sell it to meet your needs and what you have planned. You need to leave some to wait for a higher pump. if the price goes down, then we have already sold some of it. however, the decision to sell or hold it can be very difficult, because we don't know what circumstances lie ahead.
its not regretful too much when the price dumped and never recover because we already make use most of it . deciding is difficult , this is why the friend of the op ask for a second opinion . we dont know what can happen with the coin that we hold but its impossible to not know the outcome when you or you family is in between life and death situation .
if that is the case then we shouldnt think twice to sell our coins and use the fund to extend a life

It is important to have a trading plan or set your targets.  So when the price has reached the target, we should sell it for take profit.  Even though the price of the coin goes up, we are grateful for the profit that we have gotten.

When it reaches a high price state, it will have levels where your mind wonders, hold or sell are two schools that are easy to make mistakes in this market.  Hold at the wrong time, selling at the wrong time all lead to failure.  My point is don't go for perfection, lock in the benefits and you'll feel good.

For me it depends on the altcoin that you invest in and what the need is for that person to sell it,,,
because each answer will be a different story.
and what is clear is that if you have already made a profit, don't be too greedy considering the altcoin market is so fluctuating.

If the coin that I hold has the potential to increase from various reference sources, then I will also do the same as your friend. I will hold until the price of the coin rises again. However, 25% is an expectation which I think is too high.
if the price of a coin already pumped high and it looks like it's struggling to increase again, waiting for another 25% is indeed too high of an expectation.
the market could go down really deep or continue to go up again no one know but the chance of such market to go down again will always higher than it going up because people want to sell and make profit. but i also have seen some people that could make big profit by just holding a little longer so it's all really difficult decision to take.

It depends on the coin and the hype behind the coin itself, if we look back at the char 2 weeks ago from axs, the chart showed us several pump before it's all time high at around 50 bucks. So i think if we really trust the coin and the hype of the coin is there. It's okay to wait for more pump as long as we are not gonna regret what we will do in the future

having a conversation with a friend today , he was asking me if he should sell or hold a coin. i didnt give a straight answer, i just told him the project is a good one that can do well but if you are willing to wait then you can hold but if you need some money then you can sell off. he then replied that he will wait for an additional 25% increase before he would sell off. i think i tried my best to let him make his final decision himself. is there any better way to do this? if it were you, how would you respond to this. ??

Previously you already knew whether the coin/token that he held had good potential in the next year, whether you could predict the next 2 or 3 months the coin/token could provide a good profit, considering that for now the condition of the token/coin has no value good ones on the market.

If you don't really know, I'm afraid he will be disappointed if what you say is wrong, take the decision to keep the coins / tokens, he needs to analyze himself to decide all the wishes he wants to do, if only listen to your opinion, I think in future he will be disappointed with this decision.

Or sell everything and invest in another cheaper but promising coin? remember that some coins or majority of them once reached the ATH will dump again and needs long time to make another hype.
so buying cheaper coins will save you time to profit again and seek for the next target again.
this is what i am doing in my altcoin holdings , because only bitcoin remains in my pocket for long time.
cheap and promising coin at the same time seems hard to find now but what can i only see today are cheap coins ( meme coins ) but we all know meme coins are risky to invest on .
sometimes lack of patience can lead us to a sure loss but if we can only wait for the current coin that we have now maybe cant loose but only earn good profits in the future .

My answer would be that it is only his decision and his responsibility, because nobody wants to be in charge of his money. Talking about selling, there are a lot of factors that you should consider when making a decision. First of all you should look at the situation in general, whether it is a growth on the market or the market is already overheated.

Moreover, it is required to understand that not all coins are safe to hold. Firstly, because of different scams and dishonesty of devs, secondly, they might devalue.

Yes you really did well to explain things to him so that he can make his own decisions.
I would say before  holding a token you need to have a target towards the token at least with all conditions being okay, you will be able to hold towards the target, but if something then happens along the line, and you consider all options but not working out, then you can make the final call; most times life circumstances pushes us into making the decision of selling early.
Nevertheless, I think if you want to sell a token and it's a good one, but yet to reach your target in mind, try your best to explore all options because most tokens have a good way of giving holders amazing gains. But before embracing holding make sure the coin or token is worth holding so that, you don't end up having false hopes. Lastly, be contented and don't be overshadowed with greed, unless it is a coin like BTC or ETH.

If it is a valuable coin, you can hold it, but if it is a hype coin, analyze the market and sell it at the right time.
But if you are suggesting to a friend, don't just talk about selling and holding. You can analyze the market and let him make his own decision. Remember not to help anyone make the decision.

If it's a good question, it's better that the decision he makes himself with the confidence of his own heart, only suggestions we can provide the right solution for making decisions in a job to hold or release the coins he holds so that later if there is a loss or success then he can't blame other people as for when there is success there is pride for him himself

if you feel that you are getting enough profit, then selling it is the right opportunity, don't ever be eager to get a lot of profit because you might get a loss, it will actually hurt you, even though it's a little bit important to get a little profit. every moment is very important later.
in our trade profits liqudation need to be done, we don't know what will happen to market in future. As we see now , maybe all of us surprised when bitcoin price could drop to 29k, meanwhile in few months ago bitcoin market rally hardly and alot investors very enthusiastic. Close trade and take profits than find another opportunity will make our balance growth faster than we just hold it.

25% is actually not difficult for altcoins to achieve. but some may need more time. and it also depends on the project and the market.
some altcoin assets can be allocated for long-term investments. but some will be more profitable for day trading or short-term investment.
I myself like short-term and day trading. I am not targeting big profits for altcoins with busy trading.
but for assets like BTC, ETH, and BNB. rest assured holding it in the long term is not an impossibility to reach 25% in the future.
I mean the same as you said. 25% is too high if the coin held does not have a good potential for improvement in the market. However, if the coin held has good price potential like ETH, BNB etc, the 25% target is too low.

If the set goal is achieved and you think that future it may fall a bit further than selling is the best option and booking profit for short term traders. Many times due to greed the you end up either in loss or have to wait for longer time to get back your profits if in due course market slumps and results in longer recovery time frame.

You can say that it depends on coins. If it is fundamental currency, he shouldn’t hesitate to hold them, as it is the only right strategy when you work with them. As they will give a good profit to us only within time. But if it is an altcoin that has already increased by 10- 100 times, he definitely should sell. Maybe not everything straight away if a growth might continue, but in parts.
But in any case, explain to him that the conclusive decision is his.
