The only thing that I know about Indonesia is that they supposedly have very bad people in power. And I can find it in a map.

Indonesia is an independent country with many tribes and cultures. Diversity is what makes Indonesia so special in the eyes of the world. Indonesia has the motto "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" which means different but still one.

I'm Indonesian, I want to share my arabic friends' opinions.
Indonesia is a fertile country, anything you plant will grow, just like paradise, fertile and beautiful. every arabian will come here if they know about Indonesia, they said.
but the funny thing is some my european friends don't know Indonesia, but they know Bali. in Bali, people like this are called Balinesia, because They know Bali but not know Indonesia, while the truth Bali is an island in Indonesia. ^__^

Indonesia is a country of contrasts, as everywhere else there are pluses and minuses. One city will seem hospitable, and another unfriendly. But to visit the country, I think it's worth.
I am indonesian people, thank you for the good comments about my country, there are many beautiful beaches in indonesia. well, I wait your arrival in my country.

I am yet to visit Indonesia. But my friend visited that country last year, and told me that the people are very friendly. And there is an advantage for Indians like me. We don't even need to apply for a visa. As far as I know, there is a visa-on-arrival facility available for the Indian nationals.

fyi, since 2015, citizens of only a handful countries require visa to enter indonesia. indonesia has increased visa-free list from 45 to 169 countries [1]. certain "problematic" countries still require visa, e.g. nigeria, israel, afghanistan...

despite the restrooms being clearly marked for gents & ladies?

Yes, they just go to the one that's vacant. So don't get surprised to see a guy coming out of women's or a girl coming out of men's.
This seams more normal outside Paris.
In a way they've a point, usually you see a huge queue at women's restroom and none at men's, this way they just get things going more gender equally.

this happens occasionally here too, but what i'm observing is that more often men will go to women's restroom while women much less likely.

I am not even talking about the mentally disturbed guys. Defecating in the open has become a norm here. And they will sit by the side of the road and do whatever they want, at the same time watching and commenting at the passerby. The most ironic thing is that most of these people do have toilets in their homes. But they don't want to use them. I just hope that things are much better in Indonesia.

wew, that's disgusting really. not to mention disastrous for health. where are the police? i believe no such thing is happening in indonesia. people in the villages prefer defecating in the riverside instead of on the streets.

@Sithara007,
India is overcrowded, so over 1,3 bln people some oddities may surface and even become "norm".

@zenyfomax1,
They had that issue in the past, now it's a 70€ fine. Still wasn't that "poop everywhere" situation.
The major oddity I found at France is the way they use public restrooms; they simply go to the one that's vacant, regardless of the gender.

Even in every country there are always bad and good but in Indonesia is more good people. According to some movies that I have been watch. And many tribes, many traditions and good culture. I haven't been to Indonesia but from what my friends and relatives told me, Indonesia is reach in culture and traditions. Someday, I would also visit Indonesia with my boyfriend.
If you want to go to Indonesia for a vacation, then you choose the right choice. You can choose whatever you want, dive, climb, sunbathe beach, tropical forest, everything is in Indonesia and a lot of that including one of the best in the world.

and aren't the streets of paris also full of dog poops?

Actually, no, they aren't... don't know where you got that one from.

You guys have probably never seen the Indian streets. I am not saying about major national highways and main roads, but about smaller streets connecting the outskirts to the cities. It is a horrible sight. The worst thing is guys defecating in the open by the side of the road. They don't even have the decency to go to the bushes and cover up.

we do have people defecating right on the streets too, but usually mentally disturbed ones who have not been confined yet.
