What's the command line you're using.

I'm doing ./hashcat64.bin -1 abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789 -d 1 -a 3 -m 1800 example.hash ?1?1?1?1?1

..oh looks like it's working now..

The SWU file is several files in one, each with a section and hash of the data of that file. If you search for "$6$", you'll find that contents of the shadow file which has that root:$6$... structure. The $6$ indicates it's a SHA512. The salt is the characters in between the second and third "$" signs. The hashed portion of the password is after the third "$" sign. Note that these are put into a different format due to linux's "crypt" routine. Read here:  http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/trusty/man3/crypt.3.html

This is why brute-force cracking this is not reasonable (in my mind). I think it's more probable that the SWU image gets updated to a known hashed password.

I'm going to throw 8 1080Ti at it for a while trying to brute force crack it.

Well, it's not a 1-5 character password.  Checking 6 characters is going to take a week...

Can you try all 8 character passwords with inno as the first 4 chars?  Are you using hashcat? I'd throw a rig at it but I'm not sure how to proceed witih the salt part.

Yes, hashcat.  I just tried with inno as the first 4 characters with a maximum length of 8 characters and I didn't get any results.

How are people's HW error rates?  What is considered normal?  Looking at Innosilicon's Miner Status page, my HW #'s seem to be around 5-10% of my "Accepted" #.

I am running on Balanced performance profile, and have latest firmware installed.  If this is not normal are there any suggestions to lower my HW errors?  Could it possibly vary based on the pool I am mining on (currently on Flypool)?  Thanks in advance.

Thanks for trying this with so much horse power. It's definitely preferable to find the original password than to have to modify the firmware versions. Let us know what you find out.

I have a good offer for some A9's.
Does it worth investing in 5 A9's now?
I have read about the small problems above and I am concerned about ordering them.

How much is it per unit?
It is very important because Bitmain and Innosilicon will ship a lot of equihash miner in the end of August ~ September.
And, Innosilicon may start 1 buy 2 free A9 in September.

I'd want to make my money back pretty quickly given there's so many more being delivered end of next month.

Is nicehash having problems?
Who knows it, please update. Now it's not stable at all. Accepted speed drops so much at many times.

Yes, it's look like that they have problem a lot of rejects...

What is the actual speed on Flypool and other pools, maybe is better to  change it?

It's  not monitored in the list of Cards and led indicator is not working. It's middle card- GPU unit no 2.

Mine is different, it's not monitored as well but 3 leds on 3 cards are working fine. Don't know what should i do now.

Unplug PCI-E (power) and ribbon cables from 2 hashboards, and test 1 hashboard at a time. You will be able to find the bad one easily.

My one hashcard is not working. Other 2 working good. Now I will send back one card to them and they should fix it.

How can you you know which one is broken ? who told you to send one hash card to the company ? I am so curious.
