I've been mining for over half a year, but thought I had just been watching bitcoin dying slowly the entire time.
With it now making a comeback, I figured it's time to register and introduce myself!
Mining currently at ~3.6GH/s. Hope to be mining at ~8+Gh/s by the end of the month.

my name is Brian. I've been following bitcoins for a little while now. I really like all the things about bitcoins. Except the initial non encryption of the bitcoin wallet. But it looks like that has been fixed in the latest versions. Perhaps I'll offer bitcoins as a way of payment for our web site in the near future. I'm not going to plug it, but my username will give you a hint. Hopefully that is not breaking any rules here Our customers tend to be upper class and surely haven't heard of bitcoins. But something to think about..

Although mining with FPGAs is much more efficient than mining with GPUs, there is also a larger startup cost. Currently, we are on target for a block subsidy halving from 50BTC to 25BTC on December 13, 2012 (actual date may be between 2012-12-06 to 2012-12-20). If you can earn back the startup cost through the FPGA mining, then this is a great oppertunity! Otherwise, proceed on this path only if you believe bitcoin will explode in the coming year.

I'm Alatus, and come from Hungary. Though quite new to Bitcoin, i' ve been running a small mining operation since June, thus lived through the "cold days of the summer" (BTC from 11 to 2, and back again), but I am still absolutely enthusiastic.
Bitcoin is a transformative new technology, which is ( will be...) much needed especially here, where we are (dispite all denial) dancing at the verge of national bankruptcy since at least 2008.
I hope to do some activism in Bitcoin in Hungary, as well as to use it if it's possible not just as a reserve currency.
We'll see.

I barely know what a bitcoin is. There is a great article in WIRED magazine about bitcoins. This led me to do google searches, etc.. download a wallet, bit miner pool website.
I like the hardware side of bitcoin and mining. My lowly celeron 440 just cant mine bitcoins fast enough. Any help getting started?
Welcome. If you want to get into mining, you first need to realize that mining with a CPU will cost you more in electricity than the bitcents it will generate. Your best bet is to get an AMD/ATI GPU. Something like a Radeon 58xx or 6950. A cheap 6870 is also not a bad choice. I am not bashing nVidia; it is just that nVidia architecture is poorly suited for bitcoin mining.I like the hardware side of bitcoin and mining. This <https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison> will give you an idea of the hash rates you can expect with various GPUs and CPUs. For example, an overclocked 6870 can provide 300MHash/s; compare to your Celeron 440 that does 2MHash/s. Yes, 150x slower.
You can then go here <http://www.alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator.php> to give you an idea of how many bitcoins a given hashrate will provide you over time.
