Hi, my name is Steve.  I learned about bitcoins a few days ago when I read someone's signature on a different forum.  it said he was working for BTC.  "what's BTC?" I asked myself, "and why don't I know about it if someone's using an initial to refer to it?  what could this place be?  think of something it may have done for that industry."

I googled it and found a post he made on these forums.  I'm mining now to donate some BTC to him and see how much I can make for myself.  I am using a year and a half old 5850 to mine w/ phoenix @ 260Mhash/s stock and upto 380MHash/s when overclocked (never going over 80C Cheesy).

I don't think the fed should be ended, I seriously don't care.  I am very liberal/progressive/leftist and think Ron Paul is areally idealogical/extremist libertarian.  speaking of libertarians, I associate them more with wanting economic 'freedom' than social freedom.  I think it's 'cause if a social freedom is your most important voting priority you'd be labeled liberal and/or moderate or (if its something out of the ordinary like Ron Paul wanting to legalize cocain and heroin) an anarchist.

anyway, about me: I am a college student.  I live in California.  I enjoy running, playing guitar and vidya games.  I have dogs and birds.

(if a mod thinks I went on too much of a tangent in the third paragraph, I'll edit it out)

In a similar boat.  I wanted to reply to the chicken and egg thread over in the discussion area.  I'm working on achieving that shortly.

Again, I think that not only is this method not working to reduce "trolls", but it has the effect of turning away enthusiastic new supporters of bitcoin. All of the bitcoin community suffers from this, and I don't think this has been very well thought out by the administrators of this forum.

Hey there lettucebee, I love your username!  I say 'lettuce' all the time instead of 'let us'

Also, I agree 100%.

Join the club, though probably a good thing, stop a lot of the pointless trolls...

Actually, I want to say that this method of forcing new people into a separate colony is a bad idea. It is supposed to reduce "troll" behavior, but you won't find a definition of "troll" anywhere. You can go on the boards right now and see arguments, dramas, and controversies.  Participants will call each other "trolls" but what does that word mean? Sometimes one can tell that both parties believe what they are saying--they just differ in opinion--and I don't think labeling either one of them "a troll" is helpful. In other cases you can see a poster with a large amount of post experience criticizing the entire concept of bitcoin.  This person might just be "a troll" in that their only goal appears to be to start controversy, but they are not being quarantined here in the colony.

Again, I think that not only is this method not working to reduce "trolls", but it has the effect of turning away enthusiastic new supporters of bitcoin. All of the bitcoin community suffers from this, and I don't think this has been very well thought out by the administrators of this forum.

I can understand your frustration, but I have to agree with the system.  Anyone coming here with the sole purpose of spamming or causing trouble won't waste their time jumping through the hoops, they will simply move on to an easier target.  I mean really, how many people would honestly deal with it unless they were really interested in bitcoin.
