Greetings from Spain. I'm a webdeveloper who recently discovered BitCoin and thought was an interesting "place to be".
In fact, firstly I wanted to buy some BTCs, but I don't feel confortable paying a minimum of 32 eur of "comission" in order to make a deposit, so I went to the store, bought a Radeon 5870, took an old PC, plugged it there, installed ubuntu, DiabloMiner, tweaked speed of GPU and ram and started to mine at 400 MH/s
Now I have almost 0.50 BTC!! LOL
I hope to contribute in one or other way with BitCoin ecosystem.

I'm a longtime mobile developer, and a student of Austrian economics and sound money. I know a thing or two about how currencies work, and was an extreme bitcoin skeptic at first. I studied it for a couple of days, and now I'm a true believer, bitcoin is real money. There are a lot of gold bugs out there that yell bitcoin is a fraud and only gold is real money, but most of them don't understand why gold itself has value. Gold, historically served as money because of the following properties, these properties are what gives gold it's "intrinsic value", a word used by many but understood by few.
1) You can't counterfeit it
2) It's easy to recognize
3) It's portable
4) It's easy to divide
5) it is not consumed industrially, so the supply is stable
bitcoin shares all of the above properties as well..

I originally came to this forum to learn about bitcoin, what it is, what it takes to mine, etc. after reading a story on slashdot. It made me think alot of the SETI@HOME project but with a monetary component. Heck, I always thought that distributed computing was a great idea but the small additional electricity cost would certainly add up.
I think that there is alot of potential for small exchanges without the need for regulation. I akin it more to a cash transaction with no boundaries.
With conversion rates, transaction fees and all the other fees, if I send my friend $100USD via paypal, that's $3 in fees. More if there is a currency exchange, even more if a credit card is involved. I hate paypal. I love their service. I hate their fees.
Oh, I also do scripting and c# dev work.

I'm pretty sure that this is because I'm trying to get this going on Ubuntu 10.04 and it's probably got an older version of the SDK, but I don't know which SDK we are talking about
