Hello!  My name is James.  I'm just here because this forum is the only place to contact the Deepbit.net guy, and I can't get my confirmation email.  So I'm going to post in this thread to say hello, and then hopefully I'll be able to PM him and get help.

Sorry, but I already take part in too many forums to want to keep up with another one, so after this I'm gone.  I wouldn't have even posted this much except it seems for some reason to be a necessary step towards getting my coins out of Deepbit.net.

Anyway, bye!

Hi there!

Greetings from Spain. I'm a webdeveloper who recently discovered BitCoin and thought was an interesting "place to be".

In fact, firstly I wanted to buy some BTCs, but I don't feel confortable paying a minimum of 32 eur of "comission" in order to make a deposit, so I went to the store, bought a Radeon 5870, took an old PC, plugged it there, installed ubuntu, DiabloMiner, tweaked speed of GPU and ram and started to mine at 400 MH/s Wink

Now I have almost 0.50 BTC!! LOL

I hope to contribute in one or other way with BitCoin ecosystem.

Best regards

I'm a longtime mobile developer, and a student of Austrian economics and sound money.  I know a thing or two about how currencies work, and was an extreme bitcoin skeptic at first.  I studied it for a couple of days, and now I'm a true believer, bitcoin is real money.   There are a lot of gold bugs out there that yell bitcoin is a fraud and only gold is real money, but most of them don't understand why gold itself has value.  Gold, historically served as money because of the following properties, these properties are what gives gold it's "intrinsic value", a word used by many but understood by few.

1) You can't counterfeit it
2) It's easy to recognize
3) It's portable
4) It's easy to divide
5) it is not consumed industrially, so the supply is stable

bitcoin shares all of the above properties as well..

I am here to read stuff about things and write stuff about other things.

ok, I will actually take this seriously.

I originally came to this forum to learn about bitcoin, what it is, what it takes to mine, etc.  after reading a story on slashdot.  It made me think alot of the SETI@HOME project but with a monetary component.  Heck, I always thought that distributed computing was a great idea but the small additional electricity cost would certainly add up.

I think that there is alot of potential for small exchanges without the need for regulation.  I akin it more to a cash transaction with no boundaries.

With conversion rates, transaction fees and all the other fees, if I send my friend $100USD via paypal, that's $3 in fees.  More if there is a currency exchange, even more if a credit card is involved.  I hate paypal.  I love their service.  I hate their fees.

Oh, I also do scripting and c# dev work.

and, someone is behind you, watching you read this post.  Yeah you.

Hi,

I came here for general info etc about bitcoin.
I heard from bitcoin a year ago but I then thought, oh it's just a hype it will be over in a few months...
But now I'm here just out of curiousity and reading here and there, also looking for a BitCoin Market invite.

that's all

Hi, I have a 5870 and am trying to get hashkill working in Ubuntu 10.04 (MythTV server), and I want to post in this thread: http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=6819.300

So I can ask how to get over this problem I am having:
Code:
$ hashkill-gpu -p bitcoin
hashkill-gpu: /usr/lib/nvidia-current/libOpenCL.so: no version information available (required by hashkill-gpu)

[hashkill] Version 0.2.5
[hashkill] Plugin 'bitcoin' loaded successfully
[error] (ocl-threads.c:97) clGetPlatformIDs returned error (no OpenCL installed?)
[hashkill] Threads queue size: 128 plaintexts/thread

I'm pretty sure that this is because I'm trying to get this going on Ubuntu 10.04 and it's probably got an older version of the SDK, but I don't know which SDK we are talking about Smiley

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm mnemonix and I'm especially interested in FPGA based bitcoin mining because I've been working quite a while with FPGAs.

I already found one FPGA miner here:
http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=9047.0

Are there other miners out there?

All the best,
mnemonix
