I'm curious how did you compute that percentage, I can't seem to find the formula.

Regardless of the percentage, I believe there is a significant increase, investors are not risking their money anymore, they know it will dump.
But, there is a savior, the IEO which is popular now will save the market, there will be fresh money that will flow since IEO is considered an improvement of raising money through ICO, but this time it's safer as it's done in exchanges.

Well, there may be another reason. Why invest in fraudsters, let's invest in top coins in front of the bull. I think all experts advise this. The market for new projects has weakened considerably.

Compared to 2017, ICO from 2018-19 is too far when it comes to legitimacy and success. Knowing this drastic drop on ICO security, many investors tend to lay off on investing in ICO and do trading in the market than gamble on tokens which is not yet listed in exchanges.
that makes sense, anyways the price of assets registered in crypto market also looks cheap, it will definitely be a big consideration affecting the ico investment decline. coins that have not been registered with the ico market would not be an alternative to investors, unless the project is really nice.

As compared to the Q1 of 2018, Q1 of 2019 saw a dramatic decrease in amount of investment done on ICOs. The amount collected by ICOs has been decreased by 58 times as compared to previous year.
Edit - It's not just 5100% but is 5800%
It is not a big surprise that these numbers are decreasing, there were plenty of scam projects that lured people and ran away with the money and then there were projects who just want to pump the coin and dump the project and during these entire process the common investor looses his money if he miss the chance to sell the coin or token at a particular rate and majority of the projects that collected huge amounts have closed their doors and there is no consequences, with all these any investor will think twice before investing.

I think you need to learn math first.

Nothing can decrease %5800. If it decrease %100 it means the number is dropped to zero.

it is a very common mistake that many people make when it comes to drops. specially in the market and price related drops i have seen them reporting it in more than 100% drops and actually think a 98% drop is smaller because it can drop "500%" for example Cheesy

in any case the drop in investment in ICOs has indeed decreased dramatically for two reasons: first is that the hype has gone away and second is that people are no longer falling for their scam.

As i witnessed and participated in lots of ICO's in 2018 most of them fails horribly some ICO's Not even able to list it in exchanges . Some were able to hit in exchange after that team disappeared . Some ICO's collected huge amount didnot bother to deliver the product . There were more than 80% project became scam . It was hard truth . Their intention is just  raise the money.

i think we can safely consider this to be the best news that we have heard from 2018 because the death of ICOs means the market is starting to move in the path of eventually becoming a little bit healthier. and with scams and the pump and dumps that they brought to the market this healthiness could not have happened.
and although ICOs have turned into other forms such as IEOs and ... i don't see the same success among them either which shows that people are starting to learn.

That's what I was trying to pointing out too. 100% decrease refers to zero while OP said 5100% decrease. It means ICO project owner is forced to give us money, lol.

Well, no one wants to keep losing money. ICO has failed over the course last year and its purely logical for several investors to avoid it. Projects doing ICO since the end of 2018 are now phasing into the IEO model instead
I think that nobody can provide complete informations about how many icos were created in last two years, how many of them were good projects with good idea, how many of them were scams, and all others that simply didnt pass needed criteria for investing. Despite all that, this new thing, icos made some great projects, just the strongest survive, and with so many icos its simply hard to pick good ones, but still you can find them and make some good investment.

you can't continue to scam people using the same method forever!

do you remember the Nigerian prince thing? it is one of the oldest scams, it used to occur very commonly and there were people who fell for it. but now that method is dead and is used as a joke instead.
the same fate is what ICOs have been facing. they scammed people for a while and they had a pretty good run but now their time is over so they have been dying.

What to expect from that investment industry where most projects are dealt into scam?

There's new craze and hype for IEO and ICO investors are converting their choice into that.

It's very evident bounty hunters are the one to experienced and noticed this too, I have been part of at least 10 ICO that' did not reach their softcap or paused, these are prominent projects like LBX, IOVO among others, and with the new crowdfunding called IEO we will see ICO slipping their share of the market.

I'm not surprised as ICO lost its trust and only few investors are willing to take the risk and invest in ICO this days so it will be hard to meet there target, but market price is playing its part too ,if market price return to higher state many ICOs will favour

Remember the price of bitcoin could give a huge impact to the icos too, i remember bitcoin worth more than 10k in the first quarter of 2018 and this time it has touched its bottom. Investors are searching for promising ico and that makes the competition becomes very strict.

A lot of investors in 2018 were scammed, and most ICOs did not generate any profit. These could be the reason investors are appalled in investing in new ICOs. Unless we see improving performance on projects engaged in ICO, we will not see the rise of investors putting money on it.

That will be the big reason that the ICO has decreased this year, many people get scam including the investor. People now become afraid and worry about investing in ICO again because they have a bad experience in the last year and they don't want to make the same mistake. This makes some ICO cannot survive to continue their projects.

I think if the project was solid, the project doesn't have to fear if bitcoin price is down and they continue the project and explain to the investor related to the situations. I am sure that the investor will understand and they can have more patience. But unfortunately, many ICO has remained silent and not telling how bad the situations, and it makes the project cannot run as the plan.

That will makes the investor being fooled by them because if there is no explanation from the teams, they cannot make a decision and in the end, the investor will leave the project with frustrate and feeling bad to invest in other ICO.

This naturally was to be happened as in every market the investors or the participants only there for the profit. As, it is a crypto market the highly volatile and the bear market was already backed upon it so, the investors are switched of to the other market. The 5100% decrease is a heavy decline of the investors. But, when the bull will come definitely you will see a 4 or 5 times of percentage increase of investors of this value.

Your title says it has been decreased 5100%? Are you in real world? It is never possible. As per your title, ICO project owner is now giving money to the investors for free. 51 times and 5100% has a vast difference. If it decreased 5100%, the value will be negative.
