Well, from 2018 scam projects was arise until 2019 December, because when 2020 came up scam projects was being reduced unlike those years 2018 and 2019 were they are very rampant and many became a victim by them. Again, the market is unregulated so the price level is not regulated and totally depends on the demand & supply of that coin. No, Altcoin is not safe for investment because it was an experimental project wherein developers are asking money from investor to fund their experiment. The altcoin project itself dos not guarantee any success thus investing in it have huge risk involved. When there is risk, we are not sure if it is safe or not until the project became successful or went scam.

I think if you want to invest in altcoin then you have to be prepared with a big risks, because in my opinion there is no investment in altcoin that can guarantee 100% it's safe, for example what happened recently, that is SEC suing XRP and of course that has a bad impact for XRP, because the price of XRP has dropped very far, but investors still don't dare or not sure to invest in XRP for now, even though XRP is one of the most popular altcoin in cryptocurrency and XRP is also the top 3 on coinmarketcap, so in my opinion if you want to invest in altcoin then you have to be prepared with a big risks and of course you should not be greedy, because if you are greedy then you can lose your money, so you must know the right time for you to take profit.

Most people here will try to sell their alts to you but truth is owning bitcoin and ETH is the safest bet.
If you are going to invest a good amount in alts stick with the top 20 and ones that have a long track record and decent liquidity like Monero, LTC, Stellar, etc
