Volatility is part of Bitcoin nature, it's simply how it's functioning. This can't be changed and you can avoid it so every time you make an investment you should have this in mind. No matter how some would want that Bitcoin will not become stable coin. I don't think traders would even want it because afterall volatility is something they make money on.

I am a strong believer in HODL. I expected bitcoin volatility decreases as time goes by, I totally didn't expect such big price change in the past several days.

If you are a good trader, bitcoin`s volatility is your advantage, buy low sell high.

I agree with what you said though, bitcoin`s volatility decreased in the past months but surely there will always be advantage and disadvantage on it.

it has already decreased. if you check the history, years ago like in 2010-2013, it was very easy to manipulate the market and that meant a high volatility. for instance bitcoin history has a big bubble in 2013 where price went up about 500% in one month and reached $1200 later we found out Mt Gox (the dominant exchange of that time having 85% of the volume) manipulated the price.

today however we can no longer see such things and no exchange has any more than 10% of the volume and in most cases they only have 2%.
the wild swings have also decreased and all of it suggests growth in the market, less manipulation and harder or reduced volatility.

it is reasonable to assume this trend is going to continue as bitcoin market grows in size.

Volatility in Bitcoin is always there. Those who have bitcoin will always seek profits in the crypto market and only a few use bitcoin to transact. daily increases and decreases keep moving. we cannot guess the price of bitcoin tomorrow.

Is bitcoin volatility here to stay and not decrease?

the market is still very small, and there are still many people who own many bitcoins and there are many people who have lots of money to buy bitcoins, imagine if a billionaire buys bitcoin using any exchange? Imagine if someone who has many bitcoins decides to sell everything at once in an exchange? it will take many years to see the volatility decrease, at least we will not see big pump and dump, I think

And Bitcoin's market is small because it's not fully regulated, big players are still afraid to get in, or at least get in openly and in large amounts.

Another thing is that people expect it to be volatile, they speculate on it and with their actions cause more volatility - the current rally is caused by FOMO around the next halvening and supposed bull cycle, but people FOMO'ed so hard that they created a bull market long before it should have started.

Is bitcoin volatility here to stay and not decrease?

bitcoin has been known for its volatility , it is both bad and good
it is good for traders and , it is not that good for the people who receive bitcoin as a  payment
IMHO bitcoin will stay volatile and the price fluctuations will be even crazier than before
looking at the predictions and the next year's impending halving , we could see unprecedented growth

@franklin2058 it seems to me that you have just entered the crypto world, because you don’t seem to be aware of the fact that volatility and bitcoin prices go hand in hand. If you have brought bitcoins at current levels do not panic, just simply hodl them and soon you’ll be in profits. Bitcoin volatility is always going to be there, it’s one of those features which makes bitcoins unique in comparison to other currencies.

Is bitcoin volatility here to stay and not decrease?

As far bitcoin is involve or concern, its volatility is very high and as for whether is here to stay to me is hard to decide because volatility can lead to more bull or spontaneous deep down. We can still refresh our minds on the 2017 era.

Well for the past couple of years the bitcoin price has been relatively cheap, so people are still buying and selling it on regular basis and not holding like you, but i am sure that with the price getting higher and higher and closer to a point where if you sell you won't be able to buy again, the volatility which we are seeing now will decrease and we won't see as much of a price drop, because everyone at that point will just be holding.

It will be here to stay until god knows when. You need to know that the price of Bitcoin is only determined by the demand. It does not even have to do with supply because the supply is fixed. So everything is depending on the demand. The demand of BTC is highly reactive to news, all kinds of news, even if there are some that are simply fake or FUD. It is also reactive to steps taken by the governments for or against it. It is also reactive to its own project development. This goes on. That is why the price will always be rising and falling.

A market that is driven by greed and profit will always be volatile, don't expect this to change overnight, we do not have regulation it's peer to peer it's decentralized who can stop whales to make a profit and who will stop traders to do what they want to do.

Is bitcoin volatility here to stay and not decrease?

As what I understand, all cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin are volatile investment. So whether you like it or not, we should accept the fact that the risk in investing to crypto and Bitcoin is it's volatility so it will never decrease or gone.

Is bitcoin volatility here to stay and not decrease?

It will decrease as the market matures and as crypto starts to move into everyday society, and then once society has a clear idea of what bitcoin is worth.
However that is still quite some way away, so expect considerable volatility for the next few ears at least.

Volatility can't be change, decentralised currency always going to be fluctuative, it maybe can be decrease by mass adoption, the mass adoption going to make the demand and supply become more balance, but it can't be stable as fiat price

The bitcoin volatility will still happen, but we don't know if the volatility will decrease or increase because that will depend on the market and how the supply and demand of bitcoin.
And that is what we saw with bitcoin in this week, and maybe we will see another surprise from bitcoin soon.
The price will go up and down in the next weeks or next months, so we need to be careful if we want to buy more bitcoin.
Make sure you know when the good time to buy so you can prevent from buying bitcoin at the high price.

Is bitcoin volatility here to stay and not decrease?
In my opinion the volatile rate will increase with the increase of price because we have very low amount of bitcoin so which makes it more sensitive to the market changes but when it comes to stay forever or not, only we have the answers. If we keep trading the bitcoins and not using as currency forever then the volatility also will stay forever or we understand decentralization is more important and start using as currency then we will see much less volatility.
It is as you mention that as long as there are people out there who are still using cryptocurrency it will stay but if people stop using it the bitcoin won't stay and the price will decrease until it loses it's value. Since bitcoin is still used until now think I think it will stay even if the price goes up and down.
I didn't said stop using bitcoin.Just stop using bitcoin as a trading asset then we can control the volatility on the value tremendously.

Volatility is one of the main characteristics of cryptocurrencies and as Bitcoin is also a cryptocurrencies you should expect it to show some fluctuations every now and then in its price. It's through this fluctuations that crypto investors make money out of crypto investments. So yeah, bitcoin volatility is here to stay.

That is true, yeah.

Even though there are a lot of investors that want a stable investment, Bitcoin will never lose its volatility in the end. investors will even support its volatility since it is needed for them to earn money. Also, its been a long time and we all know it is decentralized cryptocurrency, no group or third party that controls it, no one will make it stable.

Volatility is related to volume. If the volume is not that big, volatility will likely stay. Bitcoin and crypto is still a small market, as others mentioned. Volume is not as big as other major market, which is why 'p&d' could happen easily, simply because there's still relatively 'low' demand and supply.

With that being said, I do believe in the next few years, if the market grow positively, we probably could see the volatility to be much smaller, just like any other currency market.

Volatility is already in bitcoins nature and volatility is also the main reason why investors are interested and invested in bitcoin because it can give big rewards. Also its volatility being normal or in it’s nature that means that there is no way it will decrease or be removed.

There is no 'volatility' in Bitcoin 'nature'. They exist on the market.

In my opinion it's going to stay for a long time, investors are profit driven and the market is an open arena anyone can buy and sell anytime at the price they want and the price they set, this is non regulated market everyone is free to do even manipulate it.
