I am a strong believer in HODL. I expected bitcoin volatility decreases as time goes by, I totally didn't expect such big price change in the past several days.

Is bitcoin volatility here to stay and not decrease?
In my opinion the volatile rate will increase with the increase of price because we have very low amount of bitcoin so which makes it more sensitive to the market changes but when it comes to stay forever or not, only we have the answers. If we keep trading the bitcoins and not using as currency forever then the volatility also will stay forever or we understand decentralization is more important and start using as currency then we will see much less volatility.
It is as you mention that as long as there are people out there who are still using cryptocurrency it will stay but if people stop using it the bitcoin won't stay and the price will decrease until it loses it's value. Since bitcoin is still used until now think I think it will stay even if the price goes up and down.

Volatility is one of the character of bitcoin that's being loved by the investors and holders and it's here to stay. We can't be confident that it will stay at the top but it's here to stay, at least for now.

If you are not expecting such high price, keep on thinking like that because most of the holders here are even thinking of such price. We have halving by next year and institutions are getting attracted to it.
Not just on bitcoin but the whole cryptomarket as we can see more altcoins are also volatile. It is being loved because traders are making huge profit but if you’re hodlers like me, i don’t focus much on volatility as it can result to a big emotion problem. We are moving good, volatile are getting weaker day by day on some coins but if its bitcoin, then i see a big volatile to stay.

I think that what makes bitcoin bitcoin, you know what I mean? It is a crypto currency, and a decentralized one so no one controls the price but it depends on how it is being circulated in the market. Volatility will never part ways with btc since it is the reason why a lot of investors earned a lot of profit.
Volatility is what makes Bitcoin? I think we shouldn't put the market that's volatile and Bitcoin itself in the same category, mainly because of how speculators are here for the price action, and not Bitcoin itself.

Bitcoin isn't worse or better if it pumps or dumps by 25% in a matter of days, while most people think it is because they link price action to Bitcoin being here to stay or become worthless.

An example of how irrelevant short term price action is, is the fundamental difference between Bitcoin at $20k in 2017 and Bitcoin at $3500 in 2019. The $3500 Bitcoin in 2019 was more secure and fundamentally stronger.

Another thing is that Bitcoin being decentralized doesn't mean anything with how price discovery happens on centralized exchanges. Bitcoin is worth what people pay for it on these centralized exchanges. Smiley

Volatility might only be lessen if there’s a mass adoption but we will see a more expensive price. As long as there’s a lot of whales then I believe volatility will stay for good, the pump and dumps should be learned how to handle by every trader, we will see a more trend like this.

Volatility is one of the main characteristics of cryptocurrencies and as Bitcoin is also a cryptocurrencies you should expect it to show some fluctuations every now and then in its price. It's through this fluctuations that crypto investors make money out of crypto investments. So yeah, bitcoin volatility is here to stay.

I personally think that it's a gradual thing. You simply can't expect a currency that has been historically volatile, and out of the reach of any central intervention, to be completely stable overnight. That's just an absurd proposition to make.

If you look at the general level of volatility, you'll see that it has decreased significantly from the flash crashes that took away more than 50% of BTC's value. If anything, the general trend is up, which may be why in the bull market the value of BTC seems constantly to be going up, and the correcting, because that's just the natural short term cycles.

Granted, this volatility may still not be sufficient. But it is trending in the right direction imo, and it's probably not the most accurate statement to say that it hasn't decreased at all.

Also don't forget about all the lost bitcoins.  The circulating supply listed isn't an accurate indicator of how many bitcoins are out there being used by people.  It really doesn't take much to move the market compared to something like gold which has a marketcap in the trillions.

Bitcoins volatility isn't going anywhere. It's still highly speculative and illiquid with thin order books. When supply on the exchanges dries up (and this is inevitable at times because of its scarcity), huge markups like this $3,100-$13,800 move happen. That kind of volatility produces an extremely emotional market where lots of traders/investors are simultaneously in deep profits and losses. That creates big moves in both directions.

I don't see this changing for a very long time, if ever.

Bitcoin is always volatile the thing you are talking on here is the intensity or the level of movement on a manner of time.

You cant do anything if the market goes sideways or having high gaps of price movement because it can happen anytime. After all the years
on following up bitcoin then you would really get used to it.

Volatility is one of the major feature of Bitcoin since its inception and maybe the time would come that the price of it stabilizes just like our foreign currency after the last Bitcoin is mine, and it's not in our lifetime anymore.

Being a limited digital currency makes Bitcoin too volatile and it feeds by our own local currencies every now and then, sometimes I wonder that its volatility would never end.

It will take a while for bitcoin to eventually achieve some sort of relative stability (compared to other fiats or other assets) because it is a new asset class the number of big players are relatively small. Volatility will eventually drop as adoption grows.

the market is still very small, and there are still many people who own many bitcoins and there are many people who have lots of money to buy bitcoins, imagine if a billionaire buys bitcoin using any exchange? Imagine if someone who has many bitcoins decides to sell everything at once in an exchange? it will take many years to see the volatility decrease, at least we will not see big pump and dump, I think

This volatile it nature of Bitcoin only makes all the people to talk ok about Bitcoin and do investment over cryptocurrencies. If there is no volatile you will not find this much cryptocurrencies in the market place and no one believe that this cryptocurrency is there have it's values.
