Many newbies do not pay attention to it and always want to try out other altcoins that are always in the news like Doge, Solana etc. But even with all that, it does not take away the first on the list of altcoins from Ethereum that is comfortable occupying that position.The fact that ETH has been consistent with Bitcoin has earned so much trust from all users. I think that the newbies are not paying enough attention to ETH simply because they are misled by the news and given enough time, they will understand the importance of choosing the most trustworthy cryptos such as BTC, ETH. Another thing that no one can deny is that Ethereum built the foundation of blockchain technology and made Bitcoin's blockchain ideas into reality. Success never comes easy and Etherum deserves all of the reputation.

It's all about the money. Besides airdrop hunters, there are many whales keeping ETH afloat with their own money. Even though there are competing chains with lower fees and faster confirmation times, none can outmatch ETH because of its first-mover advantage on the market. I guess we can call it the "King of Altcoins" (although technically it should be called the "King of De-Fi".
Don't expect ETH to lose its position on the market anytime soon, especially because there's a lot of big names backing it every step of the way. Taking down ETH would be no different than taking down BTC. Who knows how far will the cryptocurrency go? Just my thoughts

I have never seen any other altcoin dislodge ethereum from its position. Even when the ethereum network's transaction fees were high, many were saying that any other coin would take ethereum's position while it held its position like king.
