Of course, gambling can be a hobby. But I think that most players see gambling as something more than a hobby. After all, in gambling there is the possibility of winning and even very big winnings. In this case, relatively small funds can be exposed to risk. Therefore, when starting a game, a person constantly keeps in mind the idea that this is a special hobby. This is a hobby that in the distant or maybe even near future will make me rich. But we understand that there are many games that people play absolutely free and still enjoy. Why don't you play games for free?

The answer to whether gambling is a hobby or not will vary from person to person. Some people gamble to make money while others play it for fun. But self-control is a big issue here. I think it's better to take it as a hobby.
we ought to be mindful of what we undertake on to be a hobby for us, chosing gamble to be a hobby can be negatively impacting if we decides to treat it as we would treat every other hobbies like reading, listening music etc. What do I mean? You can always want to read or listen to music at any time as much as possible but you can't do this with gambling as the repercussion is that it will ruin your finances and productivity in life to other meaningful things because for you to be gambling at anytime it is signs of addiction.

As a hobby, wether we play it to make money or for fun my 5 cents here is that we shouldn't make gamble the only hobby we love to carry out daily, as a matter of fact we should make it a necessity to have more than 3 hobbies in life so if we are not engaged in hobby A today we are been engaged with a different other hobby entirely. This can be a key way to prevent addiction to a particular hobby particularly gambling which I term to be one of the worst and damaging hobby to be carried away with.

Hobby is a good thing everyone has different hobbies some like to read books some like to garden some like to listen to music but if gambling becomes a hobby, it brings ruin in life with loss of family. Gambling is never a good hobby once it becomes an addiction it is no longer a hobby. The addicted person wants to fulfill that need and gamble for anything the affected person does not control the urge to gamble but tries hard to hide the gambling related behaviors. It is better to move from gambling to alternative hobbies.

We have different type of jobs. And if you love your job, like typing setting, teaching, etc can be your Hobby.
Maybe I’m the one mistaken to believe that your job and your hobby should be two different things. I love my job, but it is not fun for me all the time. I worry about providing the best service, marketing, deadlines, managing staff…all this things take away the joy that is associated with a hobby. My hobbies are fun activities I choose to do, and my job is something I need to do. Key difference being the needs and wants.

Well, that's right, you have said it simply but correctly that the difference between work and hobbies is clear, namely that work is a necessity that must always be done even if it is forced because only then will we have income to survive, while a hobby is something that It involves more desires, where usually our goal in doing this hobby is for our psychological needs so that we feel happy or excited, which can help reduce feelings of stress within ourselves due to your routine daily activities such as work.

As we discussed, hobbies involve desire and maybe we can also say that gambling can be made into a hobby if our intention and goal is only to seek pleasure, but I think that making gambling a hobby is too risky and dangerous, because there are many temptations in gambling. It is very possible to make someone fall into it unconsciously and turn pleasure into pressure and tension, therefore I think it is not advisable to make gambling a hobby.
To be honest, this is a subjective thing, considering gambling as a hobby or not, is a conceptual depending on the individual himself, there are many people who from work become their hobby and from hobbies become their work, in this case it cannot be fixated on a field and an activity and anything because this is based on the individual that is felt, whether he feels happy at work itself or because it is a necessity that is done but does not feel pleasure, like OCD people. likewise in gambling, in my opinion, has the same conception in the systematic interest based on the individual himself.

Job can be a hobby and vice versa a hobby can be a job, it depends on how we deal with it. As long as we take it as a positive activity, there is nothing wrong to take a job as a hobby because it means that we do it not just because we need to do it for money. Gambling in other side, it can be a hobby too and if we take it as positive activity where we can have full control which wont give us any negative effect then we are good to go.
It's true that work can be a hobby, in fact I think it's better that the work we do is something we really like. This is like what my friend does, he is a coffee hobbyist, until now he is a coffee farmer who is known to many people, he does not care about the results of his sales because it is a hobby so he does it happily. Work that is done with love will feel different. You are right in saying that there is nothing wrong with making work a hobby as long as it is positive.
With gambling as a hobby I doubt it because it can have a bad impact, it's true what you said like it doesn't matter if we can have full control, it's just that maybe once in a while there might be times when we might lose control that's what we're afraid of.

Hoby is something that is indeed fun to do during free time or after work but in my opinion when a hobby has become an addiction then it is worthy of our call a disease, yes like a hobby of fishing that is done on vacation for a pleasure, but when we continue to go fishing without caring about the day and hour so forget about our obligations to work for the family,  Isn't that already a bad thing?
Likewise, gambling should be able to be done just to relieve fatigue at work or an excitement when we gather with friends and certainly it will be fun if gambling is for a pleasure that can indeed bring us closer to friends who have weekend free time in gathering and playing cards or poker.

But for now we can see how many of us actually make gambling a source of endless fun that actually makes it difficult for us to stop the behavior and makes us dissolve in gambling all the time, I think gambling addiction is something even more dangerous than drugs and alcohol because it not only destroys itself but will also have an impact on his family life.

Gambling is a hubby and not an addiction, but it is only when the people are wrongly engaging it that will make it turns to something different from what they have intended of it to be, gambling can also be our hubby because its what we like doing and have fun whenever we are on it, we can encourage other gamblers who are just starting in understanding much about these, which will help them maintain a stable and suitable lifestyle with how they are gambling.

Gambling can be a hobby as well as an addiction and is totally dependent on the financial status of a person as you can see that there are lots of individuals who have lots of money but they gamble just to change their mind while some individual think that they will get huge money from gambling as a result of which they become as addictive gambler but do not achieve anything in return.

If someone can take a break from gambling and are not involved day and night in gambling then they are not addictive but gambling is just a hobby for them but if any person who cannot live for a second without gambling and are struggling continuously to get profit from it is addicted.

Very good opinion, yes sometimes we can make work a hobby and conversely we can make a hobby a job for our lives, there is someone who is already working and he has a hobby, for example, his hobby is like keeping birds and as time goes by he starts to try his hobby. as a daily livelihood and he started to take the initiative to open a new business, namely selling birds, from his hobby his daily work could flow naturally and he could also make money there. thanks to the hobby he developed it will become a real job that brings a lot of money into his life.

And if it is related to gambling activities then there is also someone whose hobby is gambling but he only considers gambling as an activity to entertain himself. I don't think that will be a problem because he is aware and knows that gambling is just a hobby and he doesn't depend much on it.

A hobby is something you like that sticks in your mind a lot. Like one person likes to watch television and some like sports or many like to play games on mobile, it is their hobby. Although I think more and more people are taking up gambling as their hobby these days, if gambling is a user's preferred hobby then I don't think it's a good sign at all. A good sign is that a user fulfills his hobby by playing sports or reading books, and what many people have a hobby to benefit the environment with trees, it is a good and desirable hobby for every person, such a hobby never harms a person. But when a person finds his hobby in gambling, it can cause a lot of harm to him, because gambling makes people very addicted. And some people consider this gambling as their hobby, but I think it is harmful for that person and harmful for his family because gambling as a hobby has no hope of profit but more chance of losing money. That's why I think it's best for a guy if he's addicted to a good job rather than a money-losing hobby.

A hobby is an activity that you enjoy doing in your spare time.

Synonyms: pastime, relaxation, leisure pursuit, sideline

Source: https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/hobby

Based on that definition I think gambling can be considered as a hobby though money is involved but as long as you are having fun and responsible on it it is all good.

No matter the true definition gambling is hobby as long as it has a form of fun in your spare time and sometthing that you enjoy regardless of final outcome.
At the moment when you relay on gambling as a only source of income or additional source of money it becomes much more serious, you put much more effort and time in it and it can't no longer be defined as a hobby.
This is whats the most important thing on here is that on the time whether you do make it as a hobby but you are really that still on strict when it comes on spending up your money or finances then there would really be no issues. People do really just love on making out some conclusions that they are really that becoming that addicted if they would really be dealing up with gambling on day to day basis or something that its been part of their daily routine on which it is really that true but we know that there are really that individuals who are really that good when it comes to managing themselves and there are ones who are not. On the time that they would really be experiencing out those kind of issues then this is the moment that they would really be finding themselves that they have done too much engagement.

Just like been said that on the time that you are already spending too much time and money then this is something that cant be called hobby but rather this is already an addiction
which this something that we do need to avoid.

Not all my gambling is based on a hobby. There are only a few types of gambling games that I include in the hobby category such as sports betting.
Viewing gambling as a hobby can prevent us from being trapped by regret when we fail. Mistakes in making gambling a hobby can result in a high level of addiction that is difficult to control.

If you can make gambling a hobby, then whatever the results are, it will only be for fun, not for chasing victory. If you lose, keep chasing until you forget everything.
For me, it's like that in understanding that gambling is a hobby.

I don't think it really matters whether you worry about the lose or not, as far as you like doing it, it is your hobby. Going by the general definition of hobby and as stated by Op, it's anything you enjoy doing during your spare time. Of course, gambling can be seen as ones hobby but it's a dangerous one that needs to be approached responsibly. Hobby are meant to give us happiness whenever doing it but in the case of gambling, that happiness will not longer be there when you allow yourself to get addicted and battling with the loses. Regardless of joy one derive from gambling, it has to be done moderately due to it nature of how easily it can be addictive.

According to the definition of hobby of some people in this thread, we could say drinking alcohol, gambling or even hiring prostitutes are hobbies, but many people out there would raise an eyebrow if suggested those things are hobbies instead of vices.
We must then ask ourselves where the line is, so we can try not to cross and turn our hobby into an addiction.

Lol, these examples you mentioned are hobbies of course but they are very shameful ones that we can not be proud to mention them as our hobby when asked in public. No doubt about it, most of the time these hobbies eventually turn into addiction but we are not ready for this argument since majority don't even know their hobby.

For others, yes, it is a hobby for them, but as time goes by, they always play gambling. This hobby eventually becomes a habit until they develop an addiction to it. And when they reach a point like this, for sure, it's a vice.

It will be difficult for them to get rid of this type of vice; it will take a serious process before they can get rid of it because many will be affected when it is removed from their routine that they did not use before when they were just starting.

Sure, It is easy to talk about how a hobby or activity like gambling could turn into a vice or and addiction through time, but it is also important to think why this fact could affect the definition of "hobby" in the mind of some people who would never dare to call gambling to be a hobby.
Having hobbies and interesting things to do in during one's spare time has been associated and understood to be something healthy or even desirable for one's mental well being. There is a good reason so many people who happen to have the means to have a hobby go for it, though, it is very unlikely someone having some hobby like drawing, exercising, or practicing some martial arts will end up with addition to such activity, to be point of decreasing the well being of the person practicing those things. There is where the difference is between the activities some people will call hobbies and other which will not be tagged as such by the same people.

According to the definition of hobby of some people in this thread, we could say drinking alcohol, gambling or even hiring prostitutes are hobbies, but many people out there would raise an eyebrow if suggested those things are hobbies instead of vices.

I think you simply cannot have gambling as a hobby as sooner or later it has huge danger that you can become addicted as persons are driven by emotions and emotions can deceive us anytime.I can understand to have hobby videogames, watching a movie or go running to keep yourself fit.I have yet to see someone who has gambling as a hobby and has been doing well over the long run and by long run I mean time span of 5-10 years,no one so far which for me says a lot about why gambling should not be a hobby.
I agree with you. Gambling should not be used as a hobby because it will be dangerous in the future. because for me there is no point in gambling as a hobby because it will have a bad impact, we know that a hobby is something that keeps us enthusiastic about doing something and makes us try harder in that field so that it becomes something positive. But gambling will not give you anything positive. So for me, gambling is still just entertainment in your spare time, don't make gambling a hobby, let alone a source of income.

Because if you make gambling a hobby, you are afraid you will become addicted. The intention is only to seek entertainment, but if you lose track of time and don't have control, especially gambling excessively can have fatal consequences because even a hobby can lead to addiction. In essence, if a hobby is not controlled it will turn into a mental disorder and addiction.

Right.
The concept of a hobby always means a safe activity that certainly cannot cause addiction or an uncontrollable desire to spend money. Hobbies are usually drawing, music or something similar and harmless. It does not bring capital, but at the same time it does not take it away from the budget: personal or family.
Yes, music or drawing may well later develop into the main activity and bring good money, but gambling is something where money is already heavily involved in the process and most likely is even an integral part of this activity.
Therefore, I personally certainly cannot consider gambling as a hobby.
