A hobby is an entertaining activity that someone does for pleasure in order to relax outside of his regular work and responsibilities. Hobbies varies depending on someone's interests and preferences, it could be any type of sport, games, movies, books and so on.

Gambling is not considered as a traditional hobby on its own because of the risks that it might cause like wasting money and getting addicted. Being it a chance based activity, many people can't consider it as a particular habit but I think that if a gambler learns how to gamble right and learns how to manage his habits gambling could come out as a really fun hobby.

From passion to hobby to addiction ...I think this are the 3 steps of gambling and for a lot of gamblers the first two doesn't exist. However , gambling should be treated as a passion and a hobby but as long as you don't bet a lot ( i rarely have bets over 10$ ) , I think it's fair to say that gambling is more of a passion than a hobby. Being a hobby means you will bet daily right ? and betting daily will form an addiction...

Not sure if every player who bets daily is experiencing problem gambling currently. Gambling has limitations which must be enforced by the gambler to escape addiction. However, it's risky, gambling everyday. All days are not same for everyone. Some days could get so exhausting but the player still wants to fulfil his daily gambling hobby. Such reccuring behavior would get worse if the player doesn't stop for a break. It depends on the player's will power towards his self control. Looking at the differences on your response regarding gambling as a passion. Personally I'd say passion is something one can't let go in a lifetime. Gambling as a passion looks riskier in my view.

Of course, if someone gambles every day and doesn't care about himself, he doesn't make gambling a hobby but more like a job and you can be sure that person is addicted to gambling, the passion is always there every day but when you want to do gambling, it is always there to accompany you.
Someone who does their hobby well does feel addicted but they can do it for a limited time, for example 2x a week or 4 times a month or you can say 1 time a week, this is what needs to be seen, if someone does their hobby every day it is a foolishness and excessive action, however it will definitely be considered an excessive person in gambling, someone needs to learn again how to treat gambling as a good hobby.

     -     Playing gambling every day can't really be considered a hobby, instead it's a vice and they consider it a job even though it's not really in reality.

Because the hobby is only done once in a while when you want or just want to have fun. It seems that even if you play the game once and still win the game, it can really be considered as luck that you won the game.
Isn't it the same as I think, sometimes people are too naive about their activities, they don't know that what they do is a vice that can destroy them every day, just like people who do soccer every day will definitely kill them quickly.

Winning and losing are normal in gambling, especially we are talking about luck which cannot be invited by anyone when fighting against the house, don't think too much about luck it is a will beyond our control, we just need to do it for fun and luck does not need to be sought that massively.

I agree, though gambling in general can be considered a hobby because you can gamble regularly just for fun having a fixed budget for every day or every week or so, one needs to make sure they have enough control over themselves and their emotions because this hobby can quickly turn into a disastrous addiction because gambling is addictive and those who don't have much control over their emotions can get in trouble if they gamble a lot even if they are considering it a hobby.

The gambling should be consider as the entertainment, because mostly the gamblers use the gambling as the money making tool.It was the reason for the gamblers to get depressed on loss.If they considered the gambling as the hobby or entertainment, they never want the additional money from the gambling site.If the gambling was taken as the serious one,the gambling loss itself trigger the emotions of the gamblers. So finally the gamblers get addicted to the gambling and do the gambling to get back their gambling losses.

Hence, it's probably better if a person does more activities as you mentioned such as sports, playing video games, going out, or anything in general, and shouldn't focus too much on gambling because when you diversify your activities and hobbies, you won't face problems because you won't get addicted to it.

The gambler who want to get away from the gambling addiction should use the other option and engage themselves to forget about the gambling. The physical exercise or the playing other games was the good option to forget about the gambling, when the gamblers play the other game. His mind will be some how satisfied because he was in the game again after the gambling games. The gambling addiction should be avoided so the gamblers will get away from the financial problems because of the loss in gambling site.

So it is very important to maintain a healthy balance and seek help if gambling has become a hobby. Make gambling fun in your free time. If you're looking for a hobby, look for one that doesn't pose a risk to your finances.

Yes it is a wrong conception to have gambling as hobby. You don't have some financial risk as hobby because that is what gambling is. When you are gambling, you are hoping for profit and when that didn't work, the result is lose and so you won't like to have something that will bring you loses, pain or regret as something that you will have as hobby. Hobby is what you get fun from and nothing less. Therefore, to have fun you have to play a game you like as hobby and not to gamble because by the time you begin to record loses, you begin to get angry about it. Hobby is not only about game but what you enjoy doing, it could be writing, listing to music, dancing, playing games but not necessarily gambling on it.

A hobby is something you like that sticks in your mind a lot. Like one person likes to watch television and some like sports or many like to play games on mobile, it is their hobby. Although I think more and more people are taking up gambling as their hobby these days, if gambling is a user's preferred hobby then I don't think it's a good sign at all. A good sign is that a user fulfills his hobby by playing sports or reading books, and what many people have a hobby to benefit the environment with trees, it is a good and desirable hobby for every person, such a hobby never harms a person. But when a person finds his hobby in gambling, it can cause a lot of harm to him, because gambling makes people very addicted. And some people consider this gambling as their hobby, but I think it is harmful for that person and harmful for his family because gambling as a hobby has no hope of profit but more chance of losing money. That's why I think it's best for a guy if he's addicted to a good job rather than a money-losing hobby.

Gambling is not a hobby and don't make gambling your hobby because it will worsen your economic situation in the future. Moreover, gambling carries the risk of losing money, so if gambling becomes a hobby, we will most likely become addicted.

Because many people become addicted because of hobbies. Moreover, if a hobby starts to interfere with daily responsibilities, relationships and overall well-being, then the hobby is no longer healthy because it starts to become an addiction. Hobbies can sometimes become behavioral addictions if they are not controlled, and can have the same effects on the brain as drug addiction.

So it is very important to maintain a healthy balance and seek help if gambling has become a hobby. Make gambling fun in your free time. If you're looking for a hobby, look for one that doesn't pose a risk to your finances.

First of all I will like to define hobby in my own understanding. Something that one like to do always either for pleasure, leisure or entertainment. And example of hobbies which I know. Swimming which can be a game as well, reading which can also be a competition as " reading competition", and anything competition is a game, and sport. Sport can be someone hobby if the person love sports and like to partake in it. And that means something you partake that you have leisure and pleasure can be your hobby.

Why I brought this topic because someone told me here that https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.63928115 gambling is not a hobby and from my viewpoint gambling can be a hobby for the addicted gamblers and that argument made me to do some research and I also came up with this Gambling can be a harmless hobby or a serious addiction. and also from another source again Gambling as a hobby is legitimate so long as it starts of as and remains a hobby, which means self-control in order to pursue a satisfactory result with a limited budget
And lot more.

Upon all those sources and explanation, I still need the community input on the argument to know if gambling is a HOBBY so that I and the person will understand more.
Cheers.

It became a hobby once a person usually do gambling in all of his vacant days like his/her working rest day, because normally we dedicate things for our family and other social activities. But, when you made gambling as your choice of happiness I guess it would become a hobby on somebody who got an investment money for it.
Moreover, when there's no enough money to fund that betting activities I think gambling as hobby would reach to that stage. The worst scenario might not be good once gambling hobby would become habitual act, worst case will affect finances and personal life because it's prone of being addicted.

Hobbies are indeed pleasures that someone wants to do in order to fulfill their desire for pleasure and be able to fill their free time with things they enjoy and it is up to them to use their hobbies for whatever they want, but most people describe hobbies as doing things that are useful for themselves, such as swimming. it can make a person taller and it is a good hobby, there are also those who play games but make it a daily hobby because they don't have a job, there are also those who like fishing because they are bored at home and want to do activities with their friends. There are lots of them a hobby that's actually not very useful but is very fun so if they take up gambling as a hobby, I don't think it's a problem because gambling is also part of the game.

But what you need to remember is that gambling is a negative hobby if judged by other people because it can cause danger to people who use it, therefore if someone is thinking about eliminating boredom or filling their free time with gambling, use gambling wisely and always be careful in managing their finances so that did not experience major losses.
Indeed, a hobby is something that is done based on one's own desires because it can make us happy to do it, as you said, swimming, fishing, playing games have benefits. But of course everything we do has its own risks, now if we like playing games and don't have a job it can make things difficult for us. because playing games too often, in my opinion, is not good, there will be a feeling of being lazy to move other than playing games. It's the same as gambling, which has a bad impact if you make it a hobby, unless you can control yourself as well as possible, it's not a problem, it's just that many people gamble excessively, which is not recommended.
I myself like gambling, but I don't make gambling a hobby, because I have bad thoughts about gambling if it becomes a hobby. As you said, making gambling a hobby can be dangerous, so if you really like gambling, it's better to gamble sensibly. In my opinion, it's not advisable to make gambling a hobby.
Gaming, gambling - these things need limits. Period. Im not judging those who enjoy them, but I've seen the damage firsthand.  People zone out, lose focus. Addictions happen, believe me. Its science, not opinion. Before you know it, you're not just losing money, you're losing yourself. Im all for winning, for being the best. But there's no victory in letting a hobby take over your life. Balance is key, its what separates the winners from the losers.  Gambling is for occasional fun, not a way to make a living. Anyone with brains knows this. Be smart, be strong.  Success comes from discipline, from drive. Dont let yourself get played by the game. You're better than that.

Or it can be considered as a hobby when gambler does not feel disappointed when he loses. As long as it brings fun, gambler enjoys it, it makes him feel calm, it is a hobby. As soon as he starts bothering about money spent, but keeps doing it daily or regularly it is a job. But when gambler things only about playing and spends all money on it, it is an addiction.

True, if we consider a specific example: I am convinced that playing poker on weekends for small amounts carries more positives than negatives. Small bets spur interest and create the opportunity to get small winnings from gambling. It's like a little incentive that makes the game fun and exciting. I believe that in this format, gambling can become a pleasant entertainment without serious consequences. The main thing is to remember the measure and control your actions so as not to go into a deep bundle of excitement.
I am writing this based on my own experience and feelings.

It's the other way around, passion is something you will do everyday while hobby is what you doing when you have a free time. So if you have a full time job and after that you focus to your passion, you might not have a time to do your hobby.

Aside from passion, hobby and addiction, I would add one more: quit. There are so many people choose to quit gambling after they loss their first deposit and choose to completely avoid gambling.

Hobbies generally only occupy your mind when you are doing them, or on occasion otherwise. Passions stick with you all day and you’re always thinking about some aspect of them.

When we turn a profitable activity into a hobby, it becomes more pleasurable to do something we enjoy.
So, even when betting, it's recommended to enjoy it, but beware of addiction and never bet more than you should.

We should never go to the pot thirsty. When we do what we like, even our work becomes a hobby, something enjoyable to do.
Unfortunately, it never comes to that end because most gamblers find gambling not a hobby anymore but some sort of source.
Some gamblers are able to control themselves in their early days but gradually change from time to time as they are about to chase their losses. A hobby to addiction --this is what we usually see.

That is why I would agree that spending more time in gambling, the more possibly it leads to addiction. Therefore, don't make this gambling a hobby because this could also be a reason that compromises our finances.

If you say you are a passionate gambling, someone will not hesitate to think that you gamble everyday too. If you have passion for a lady, doesn't that mean your emotion will be attached to her and you either hate her or lover her. If you handle same love passion for gambling, you can also become addicted or a non gambler if you have the passion of hate.
I think some people just use different words to refer to the same thing, especially if they're not at a native level of writing. I mean your description of gambling every day is referred to the quoted member as a "hobby", while it is actually deeper than that. So we should focus more on the description instead of the word. At the end of the day, a description is required so you can make the standard to judge whether an activity belongs to that group or not.

Gambling can be considered a hobby for some people, as it involves participating in various games of chance or skill for entertainment purposes. Like other hobbies, gambling can provide enjoyment, excitement, and social interaction. However, it's important to approach gambling responsibly and in moderation, as it also carries the risk of addiction and financial loss. As with any hobby, individuals should assess their motivations, set limits, and prioritize their overall well-being.
from my understanding in gambling I have not seen gambling as a hobby but we see a gambling as entertainment so whoever that says or saying that the gambling can be a hobby it is based on the person's understanding towards gambling for me tumbling is an entertainment that we use to check our lock to know if we are a lucky somebody that can be able to win something based on Opportunity so I believe that gambling is all about entertainment and also a desire personally it has to do with the advantages and the disadvantages so something that you lose mostly cannot be your hobby from my own way of understanding gambling and also differentiate it from other things

Yes I also just heard that there are some people who make gambling a hobby, it doesn't matter because after all everyone has their own mindset and point of view on everything they see, I also don't see that gambling is a hobby and I agree with you that gambling is nothing more than an entertainment activity, although yes a hobby can also be interpreted as an entertaining activity but I think if we make gambling a hobby it is too risky friends, because after all gambling always involves risks which can sometimes be very significant.

For me honestly I can't consider that gambling is a hobby and the reason is as I said above that it is too risky to be a hobby, although I know that being a responsible gambler can minimize the possibility of bad things that are not wanted but in the end it is not uncommon to see gamblers who are initially responsible and come only for entertainment but in the end they become an impulsive gambler who turns entertainment into tension and pressure, and yes it is probably better to make gambling an activity to test how lucky we are by coming in occasionally when we have some money to lose.
