I don't think hodling alts are dangerous at all. Maybe it is a bit dangerous if you hold alts that are new comers with poor development team. But if you are hodling elite, tested and stable alt coins like alt coins in the top 30, i think you don't need to worry at all.

it depends on the altcoin you are investing ofcourse you have to be very careful there put your own criteria and what suits you Mine is basically
1- the team and how active they are on social media - telegram especially
2- altcoin features what new things the coin is bringing to the table
3- its partnership these days this is actually becoming a universal thing
4- activity on the sites and then social media

Yeah,,, holding ALTS is good if you follow some criteria mentioned above.. but it is very bad that you will regret later to hold scam coins...
So we have to be very selective to what ALTS we are going to invest our money on ~

Yup, it is not dangerous as long as we hold the right coins.
Coins with great project, great team, and great marketing plans had the potential to be better investment than BTC or ETH ~

hodl the alts with a working product, good team, delivers on time on their roadmap, etc. a lot of coins are in the conceptual stage and no working product yet so the risk is very high if they will be able to deliver

It's shouldn't be called dangerous, it should be called risky if you were to ask me about this question. There are some risks and they're obviously valid in lots of application of the commodity and equity markets. This is valid on coin market then.
My answer is similar like yours. Holding any coin/token shouldn't be called "dangerous" because it's not "dangerous". While you decided to hold any token, there are 3 possibilities from your investment later, first, your money will grow if the token/coin you hold are increased. Second, your investment will decreased because your coin/token's value/price are decreased, Third, your investment is almost/same like your initial balance because price are likely stable.
there is time when the coin just doesnt grow and stay there no more activity and thats what all try to avoid because dev sometimes dont update and it causes panic among traders

so altcoin investment is possible even though the coin has decreased in price but we can return the capital for investment. because cryptocurrency fluctuations are very large and possibly could rise and fall in price in a short time. I think it would be safe and harmless to invest in any altcoin. Most importantly we always look at the moment and do not get exposed to the issues that have sprung up.

Last year alts rise a lot. I dont know the average percentage. But when I check coins in the market at year 2013 lots of them dead now (too low ranks). probably new tech coins won them (like peercoin, namecoin, ixcoin etc)

Also we are following new ICO s and most of us expecting too much gain from new coins which are not at the market. If our ICO expectations will happen, when they added to market, current market coins will go down. kind of paradox  Huh

Holding Altcoin could be dangerous if you are not aware of market situation ! but if you invest in good altcoin then might be it will not be dangerous !
Happy Trading
Thanks
Regards

One you believe on the Alts that you are holding and you know it has a very good future by checking the facts around it, then just hold it. It's not dangerous at all. Soon you will reap the reward.

There are many altcoins that are worth hodling. To make sure I'd keep researching about certain coins of my targets and monitoring the progress of their projects. You need to know who's behind the project, the team itself along with their behavior in the forum. Also worth noting the community who's mining or trading this coin, marketcap and trade volume number can be a good object to monitor.

Depends which alts. You need to look at the work, the team, and the future of the alt-coin you want to invest in. Are they doing their marketing, do they have big plans, are they up to date with what they promised? It's like choosing a company stock.
yes that's quite true and as long as you hold altcoins which have solid team and community and at least have top 100 position on coinmarketcap i think that would be fine and indeed sometimes our altcoins investment value will decreasing if the price suddenly dropped but if those altcoins have high volume support for every exchange i think possibility to survive is pretty good

It make sense rebalance portfolio sometimes - obviously not everyone altcoin will survive, you need to be careful about market and be ready sell some of them.

it depends on the alts you hold, if the alts you are holding are famous i think it is not dangerous for long term investment, but if alts is not good then better keep it short.
because it will be very risky for long-term investment.

Personally, I do not think holding altcoins are dangerous if you carefully pick the right one since they are a lot of promising altcoins in the market like Syscoin,Ark, Elixir,ETH, Maid, etc

Of course holding for a longtime has its own risks such as the drop I was too powerful that makes the price has gone too low to 0$ but in most cases the price is soon rising back normal in a short time. So we should not too much worry about that, it will be back in the future.

I believe that hodling won't give us any harm or we may not worry about it. It is actually a wise decision to hodl and to wait patiently wait for our desired value in the future. Changes in the value of tokens is just a part of it's being volatile so must not worry about these changes but we must be positive and hopeful for it because it will surely give us a good profit in the future.

Sometimes it is dangerous to hold altcoins too long. But will just happen if you are holding to wrong alts, because the good coins like Ethereum will grow up in the next years and you can easily hold them for a long time!
