Yes, my ether wallet is pretty secure wallet and a large no of people in crypto market use this wallet to hold their coins. People can lose their wallet if they share their private key to scams and phishing attempts if they are not careful.
The biggest threat of such website is all about phishing, aka directly to a similar website which resemble the same as MEW and get your private keys easily, its easy not to get scammed by simply notice the url, but its different story if somebody already had access to your network, or key press which wouldn't have any factory of safety anymore

I was very OCD on my own security.First of, it's important you have a clean computer with a good anti-virus and malware program check your pc daily! You just dont want anything on your pc! So get that done! A paid one is always the best! Scan, re scan, use different malware scanners and make sure everything is in the clear!, also Only unlock your MEW if you want to send funds,Always check that you are on the correct URL, final one is keep ur privet key safe.then you will be safe.
