Well, science is not religion and it doesn't just come down to faith. Although it has many of religion's virtues, it has none of its vices. Science is based upon verifiable evidence. Religious faith not only lacks evidence, its independence from evidence is its pride and joy, shouted from the rooftops.

Religion, is based on belief. The belief that there is a higher power that has created everything and governs everything. Science is not based on belief. That said, more theoretical and therefore less empirical evidence based fields of science (formal sciences) can include believing in the possibility of something.

In some way, yes. Because all the theories are just theories that one day can be refuted by other theories. They exist only because of the faith of people in them.

Guys don't complicate the things.Yes you can believe (or not) in whatever you want in any kind of religion.I  don't believe in any religion and I appreciate the science and everything has offered us,but I don't think that science is a religion. We don't worship the science because we've made it and it's a tool to discover the nature and to have a better kind of life.

According to a commonly-acknowledged idea, science deals with " facts " whereas religion deals with " meanings ". If science attempts to answer the " how " and religion the " why ", there should not be any conflict between the two. Unfortunately, the situation is not so simple. It is true that science deals with efficient causes and religion with final causes, to use the technical words of the Aristotelian philosophy.1 But the general trend in the development of sciences is that the efficient causes push the final causes backwards and eventually eliminate them.

Religion is based on belief, science is based on proof.
Science is based on evidence, not proof. People often conflate the two terms.

Science, for most people, is based on the belief that a lot of evidence means proof, and as such is no more than religion.

There are not many people who really understand science as what it is and as what it was intended to be... a tool for exploring and developing our reality.
Science in its very core can not provide proof of any kind and anybody who understands Statistics deeply enough know this. Unfortunately even a lot of scientists don't understand this, since they only study how to use Statistics, but not how it work.

In either case, science as used by the majority of people on this planet is no different from a religion.

I don't think so. It is so far to become a religion. In my own perspective, science is the study how things are made, the origin of a particular subject. How it is works, the technicalities. Behavior of something. Science only proves that every thing in this world happens for a reason. It did not believe in miraculous event. That is why we have called "Scientific Explanation"

I would say that science is anti-religion. Whenever and wherever the knowledge of science spreads, the hold of the religion becomes weak. That is why the religious leaders are so much against science.

Science is definitely a religion. Why? Because most people don't understand the science of things. Yet they believe in it.

Science is not a religion. This is because religion deals with beleif system. While science specifically deals with methodology for seeking objectivity and real situation. While tries to seek meaning and answer as to why is as it is based undoubted assumptions that such indeed exists, science on the other hands deals with experimentation devoid of beliefs and dogmatism.

if science = religion, therefore religion = science, but that's not true, so science =/= religion.
Yes, that's true. In fact i think one stand things how they believe they are and don't accept new theories, while the other is open to admit mistakes and correct them.
One fundamentals is in the science proyect with facts and probes, the other is moved by faith they are not the same of course

I believe there is the church of Scientology but i don't know the details of what goes on in there, And when you look at atheist, they denounce the concept of God and cite the theory of evolution and the big bang theory as evidence of the non-existence of God, i believe they indirectly believe in Science as a religion as a result.

I don't know, but i think science wouldn't like to be a religion. In fact, they try to destroy them with proofs.

According to Tom Cruise it is. haha But for real, there are some who thinks science is a religion probably because they believe in science. And science usually contradicts what was said in the bible, like how the world was created. Both have beliefs on how it is created.
Those who believe in religion have their beliefs. The existence of God is imposed opinion. If the person is engaged in science then it is not possible to impose their views. Him to the faith need evidence, and religious people believe in fairy tales without proof. Science and religion are completely different concepts and they cannot exist together.

In my opinion, it is a polymorphic. For those who didnt understand what I meant, A religion may have been started by a human but there may be some science behind it. We are thinking that we are technologically forward than what people were centuries ago. But I feel they were smarter than us. They calculated all the distances between planets and all. So Science and Religion are just 2 faces of the same coin.
