Many people think that science is just another religion, no better than their own. Their reasoning is apparently something along these lines: Beliefs about the unseen world are based entirely on received truth, truth that is known to be right because it is felt to be right. All and only religions offer an opinion about the unseen world. Science offers such an opinion. So science is a religion. For those interested in the technical, this argument is valid, so if its premises are true, so is its conclusion. The second premise is false.

While many in main stream science claim to be atheist and believe in the Big Bang and the eventual Deep Freeze due to entropy. Is it not curious to consider that the very underpinnings of this belief is based on mathematics, was it too created in the big bang? if so how was it constructed? one digit at a time?

I think not it has always been there and will always remain its an eternal masterpiece that permeates every conceivable facet or reality yet in its self it is purely abstract. Without it nothing would exist, but it in itself it is nonexistent and existent at the same time. It is the language of the living universe. Its permutations are infinite, yet it did not grow, it has always been complete and eternal.
Within the definition of science as it is defined among scientists, is science theory. Science theory might seem to be fact, it might have lots of evidence, but it is not fact necessarily. When science theory is heralded and believed to be fact, when it is known that it might not be fact, it becomes religion. And in that way science is religion. Smiley

Religion is a man made which is full of different beliefs that cause some people to be foolish while science is discovering what is truth.

It is a religion, but of a kind which evolves its models of reality faster than others. I guess the only way to avoid having a religion is to have a computer thinking instead of you. But I may be wrong. After all also its operative system is a religion.

The ranks of science martyrdom may be thin, yet its members are revered as far greater scientists they actually were. Take Galileo Galilei, for example, the patron saint of all scientists persecuted by religious orders. He actually contributed very little to science: most of his achievements were technical, such as tampering with telescopes. Heliocentricity was known since the 4th century BC.

Actually , Science has no definition. I think science is something like we can not understand. it is changing every second.Religion is a just like a doctrine, we can understand. however, because of the science technology world has become a nice place.

In my opinion, science should research external truth, physical world, and religion should research internal truth, spiritual reality.
In fact, science and religion have no conflict  Smiley
Obviously, science is very different from religion.

I think science is not a religion. If there was religion, everyone would mock. because science can continuously improve itself by decaying itself. for example they say it is harmful to some foods. then they say they are useful. there are now people who say that the world is not round.

The real scientist lives his work. Therefore, we can say that for him, science is a religion. But there are very few such scientists now.

Well, I don't think Science is a religion. In religion, there is no proof needed to everything. Perhaps there are parts of religion that has proof. However, this is not acceptable in Science, because in Science everthing should have a proof and explanation.

Science is a religion which self-emends its dogmas faster than other religions, this way resulting in a much higher efficiency in helping humans to solve their problems. But still, it is a religion, everybody believes in it, nobody understands it all.

No. It is a systematized body of knowledge. It is more on facts and scientific basis. Things under this are proven.

I have read a couple of the responses and I would like to give my 2 cents on the matter.

I think science is creeping into the role of a religion more and more. One hears the engineers at GoogleTalks talk about AI and uploading their mind to a computer. If you really think about that as their answer to the age old questions of life, then yes, science is a religion since it more and more tries to solve these oldest of questions. They want to avoid death, want to explore the universe and prevent age degradation and biological limitations. These are exactly the same things religion has been trying to give to people for thousands of years. The main difference in my opinion, is that science might give it to them while they are still alive in a technical sense.

Science started out as a study on various fields. But some has actually incorporated belief in Science making it a semi kind of religion. Don't know if faith is involved, but I believe it was created to contrast that of Biblical beliefs and teachings. Tom Cruise for example, he has been into Scientology for quite some time. We all know that Science has always pursued on finding proofs as to how things came about and coming up with logical facts or explanations on almost anything and everything we could think of. I have nothing against Science. But when it comes to belief and faith, I'm with Christ.

Science and religion is obviously two different things with different purposes. Science is trying to ease people's life in the physical aspect, give an explanation how the physical world works. Religion give the purpose to the life and take care of the spiritual aspect of human being.
