I think its better to wait for the price of eth to be dumped before buying, like hmm try to buy Eth before Ethereum fork will happen because many people will dump their coins and the price will be dipped which is good timing to buy eth, and dont be afraid because eth will sure bounce back.

Why do not you divide the 5k $ between Eth and other ( others ) coin(s) that seem to be competitive in growth term coz 5k is really a considerable amount
Yes investing all your money in one place is not a wise decision, you should divide your investment in different places and should reduce the chances of losing all your money in one time. If you will invest your money in different places you can increase the chances of making money. To me i personally have invested my money in different places. Most of my money is in bitcoin as bitcoin is more reliable and trusted investment. 
I would say Ethereum is still a very good investment. It has a very great potential. If nothing goes wrong, we can see the price blooming. But still do your own research and decide if whether you should invest or not. After all it is your money and your investment, so you are the final judge, not us.

Not as good a time as it would've been in the past but that is not important, right now it's still a good time to invest, I think we could see ethereum reaching 5k or maybe even more before the end of 2018. It's a good safe investment compared to other alts.

It is very much ok to invest in ethereum because it is an altcoin with a greater future ahead of all other altcoins. I think that there is no such time which is bad to invest in Ethereum. It is a coin which is of good potential. If it may crash then it will again take its position back in some time. I will recommend that you should invest in Ethereum if you want to invest in crypto.
