Yes it is important to secure our accounts to those scammers and hackers . Once your account is less secure or open in information they are chance to steal you details and may stole your bitcoin savings from your wallet.
Wallet security is really important, so if you want to avoid theft and be hacked all you need is to find a good wallet that has a good security feature that hackers will have difficulties in stealing all of your holdings.
I agree with you, also we need to be extra careful with our wallets and devices that accessing our wallets, we need to avoid sites and download apps that is not safe.
I recommend using a different device for that. One device (preferably a clean Windows with a good antivirus) for your bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. This will serve as your wallet and this has to be extra secure and clean. You shouldn't install anything but Electrum. Another device for work stuff. It will be connected to the Internet a lot and will have access to your secondary wallets. Third is just a cheap netbook for downloading, torrenting, and pretty much just surfing the net that might potentially be unsafe. But all of this can be squeezed in one device when you have are running Linux. I personally recommend Ubuntu as they have a good community, lots of tutorials, plus there's an IRC for Ubuntu where some experts hang out to help others.
There's only 2% of Linux users in the whole world so it's quite unlikely that hackers will be focusing on making a virus dedicated for Linux users. It's believed to be the most secure operating system. It's not just about the wallet. It's also about the Operating System that you are running, the data that you get from the Internet (from downloading), and how cautious you are overall.
