Atalanta has only been up to these levels these last years and not before.They were a low quality team in Serie A most of the time and no one took them seriously.However with the latest investments and transfers they managed to play in Champions League lately.If they want to keep this level of quality they have to increase their spending as Serie A is a very competitive Championship for many small teams,because for me Atalanta still remains a small club in Serie A compared to the big ones with much bigger history.
Atlanta Bergamo will probably finish high again next year, but I don't think that is a team that can become champions in the league in the long run. They have actually outperformed expectations for years. Inter Milan, Juventus and a few other clubs will continue to rule. Juventus has been very disappointing in the last year, by the way. Atalanta is uncomparable with Sevilla too but I would like to see them have a same growth as Sevilla and Atletico Madrid. It will be good for Serie A generally but they will need to have a stability in their coach and sport director positions.Atletico Madrid has many years with only Simeone as a coach and Sevilla has Monchi. Atalanta and Sassuolo are the most exciting clubs in Serie A recent years. They are not big clubs but have some good and young players. Sassuolo don't have big success like Atalanta but I don't underestimate them.

Well Atalanta is a middle class team for many years before just competing to survive now they have bought small players and turned them into something huge you cannot expect Atalanta to buy superstars when their budget is 10x lower then for example from Inter or Juventus. Congrats to them because they are at top level for many years already.

Atalanta's performance is seasonal that's why they are unpredictable to be classified among the best club or not, sometimes Atalanta plays a perfect football in a season and become worst in other season, they aren't consistent in their winnings at all and they sometimes loss heavily by conceding high goals unlike Atletico Madrid who hardly concede goals but win with little goal margin. 
Don't worry, the opportunity will be seen when they compete in the champions league next season we know the teams that compete in the champions league will get additional funds from several sources so if they can use it then they can do something big. I believe that the current composition of players can be relied on.

You are right. Having star players in the squad does not mean that the team is the best. There must be coordination between the players. Good performance is never possible without coordination. The Juventus team relies heavily on Ronaldo. Juventus's players have to reduce this dependence and try to play well in the own position. Then you can expect a good result as a team.

They are good so far for the past few seasons but let's remember it is always a temporary success unless you reinvest that into the team. You can use the money you made into players, buy players, pay high salaries etc etc but that will be gone, eventually you will have a great team but if they suck just one season and not bring you any success then you are going to suck big time and will fail to deliver.
My favorite team had something like that, we spent a ton of money on players and in the end we won 3 championships thanks to it and went to quarter finals of champions league which we never before in our history, and then next season few players left and we sucked and the whole team suddenly started to suck, now we have been not so great for nearly 5 seasons. This is why you invest into staff, buildings, pitches, academy and many other stuff that are forever there and not temporarily there.
Very few clubs can maintain good results in some seasons and have good transfer strategy to replace their key players. You mentioned about salary and I agreed. Medium clubs fall into the increasing demand of key players or new alternate players. Their salary budget increases with player demand and with their bigger ambition. The risk originates from there.
