Kansas City Royals (22-44, 10-21 Home) at Cincinnati Reds (23-43, 12-20 Away)

Both teams are miserable and are stuck in the basement of their respective divisions. The Royals already made a move, dealing Jon Jay to the Diamondbacks last week. That might be the first of many moves for Kansas City between now and the trade deadline. Cincinnati has yet to make a deal but it likely will be something that takes place in the near future. Both starting pitchers in this one have been awful: Romano leads the NL in losses and Kennedy hasn’t won since April. In this one, give the edge to the hosts as the Royals pick up the victory.

     This match might not look like much on paper to Japan, but it is crucial to them. They have build exactly zero momentum ahead of Russia, and this is a match in which they have to do that in order to make things right. Paraguay are in a process of transition as they have still not named a permanent manager. That means they should be ripe for the taking. Japan have got to go out and build some kind of confidence, or they could risk being swatted aside once they enter group play in the World Cup.

     Bundy has really been rounding into form over his last five starts. He’s completed at least six innings in every start, while allowing three runs or less four times during that span. While Bundy has had mixed results against the Red Sox in the past, Wright has been absolutely lit up by the Orioles. The Red Sox right-hander has posted an ERA over 6.00 in five appearances (four starts), which has me leaning towards the Orioles in this game. There is some solid value on the Orioles here, so take them to come out on top at home in the opening game of their series against the Red Sox on Monday night.

     What makes Belgium's recent run of great defensive showings even more impressive is the fact that they have done it against teams that are all going to be in Russia. That's right. The Belgians have kept four straight clean sheets against teams going to the World Cup, and that has to count for something. Furthermore, they have tended to put teams that aren't up to snuff to bed with a flurry of goals, scoring three against Egypt and four against Saudi Arabia. Costa Rica, on the other hand, have looked far from convincing, and will hope that they can do much, much better than they did against Spain in November.

Cleveland Cavaliers (50-32, 29-12 Home) at Golden State Warriors (58-24, 29-12 Away), Game 4, GS leads 3-0

The Warriors survived Game 3 and took their commanding lead in the series as they came up with the critical buckets in crunch time. Golden State showed they could come up with a win even when three of their stars failed to deliver much on the offensive end. One has to wonder what kind of shape the Warriors would have been in had Durant not carried them in the first half. James had a solid outing once again as the Cavaliers put up a fight but unless the role players come up big, Cleveland will have an issue here. Still, you know the Warriors are good to have a game slip away from them in a series: take the points and the Cavaliers in this one.

     Ten-time Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro, playing some of the best tennis of his career in 2018, will square off in a blockbuster semi-final in south-west Paris on Friday.
     While Nadal has a 9-5 lead against Del Potro in their FedEx ATP Head2Head series, the pair has met only twice before on clay courts. In their two completed red dirt matches, Nadal beat Del Potro 7-5, 6-3, 6-2 at the Paris major in 2007 and 1-6, 6-4, 6-1, 7-6(0) in the 2011 Davis Cup final. Nadal also won their last clash in the 2017 US Open semi-finals 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2.
     Nadal, who celebrated his 32nd birthday on 3 June, is looking to secure a place in his 23rd Grand Slam championship final (16-7), while Del Potro, free from the wrist injuries that have hindered his progress for the past eight years, attempts to reach his second major final and add to his 2009 US Open crown (d. Tampa Bay Devil Rays (28-32, 11-13 Home) at Seattle Mariners (38-23, 18-11 Away)

     The Mariners are in Tampa Bay to take on the Rays on Thursday night, in the opening game of a four game series.  Neither team got off to a great start, but both have been playing well for the last month, although June hasn’t been as good as May for the Rays.  They have lost six straight games to drop to 28-32, but it’s actually even more amazing that they were able to climb above .500 after their horrid start.

Washington Capitals (61-31-8-1) at Vegas Golden Knights (63-26-5-3), Game 5, Capitals lead 3-1

No team, apart from the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942, has managed to overturn a 3-1 series deficit in the Stanley Cup Final. And the Golden Knights definitely face an uphill struggle to dig themselves out of the hole. The previous outing, though, should work as a wake-up call. Vegas had a 71-41 edge over Washington in total shot attempts and is likely to regroup for Game 5. Having won 16 of their past 18 home outings versus sides with a winning road record, the Knights are a very decent pick in this one.

Golden State Warriors (58-24, 29-12 Home) at Cleveland Cavaliers (50-32, 21-20 Away), Game 3, GS leads 2-0

The Cavaliers are at a crossroads here and they know it. A win here makes it a 2-1 series and gives them a chance to tie it up Friday night before the series shifts back west. A loss puts them in the deepest of holes, one of which no NBA team has ever climbed all the way back from. Cleveland faced a similar situation against Boston in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals and responded with a blowout win to energize themselves. Don’t expect a one-sided contest here but it’s hard to go against James at home, where the Cavaliers have reeled off eight straight wins. Take the points and Cleveland here as they make it a 2-1 series.

     After getting hammered by the Australia in their last game, the Czech Republic are not going to be looking forward to this match. Nigeria are a much more dynamic, free-flowing side, so if the Aussies can tear them apart, then so too can the Super Eagles. While the Czechs are not likely to be so porous in defence in this match, they still look to be big outsiders when it comes to the result of this match. Nigeria prepare with a nice, fairly comfy win.

     Garbine Muguruza will be searching for her first victory over Maria Sharapova when the pair meet in a blockbuster quarter-final clash at Roland Garros on Wednesday. Muguruza and Sharapova both enter this clash in ominous form, both are fresh after not having to complete a fourth round match. This is an exciting battle between two former champions in Paris, who will rise to the occasion and claim victory here?
     Muguruza has waltzed into the quarter-finals in Paris without dropping a set. The Spaniard powered through the opening week with straight set wins over Svetlana Kuznetsova, Fiona Ferro and Samantha Stosur. Muguruza’s fourth round match lasted just 2 games before Lesia Tsurenko retired injured. Roland Garros is easily Muguruza’s most successful tournament, the 2016 champion is certainly now one of the main contenders in 2018.
     Maria Sharapova is back into the quarter-finals in Paris for the first time since winning the tournament in 2014. Sharapova is a 2-time former champion in Paris, surprisingly Roland Garros is her most successful Grand Slam and suddenly she looms as a genuine contender to win a third title. Sharapova moved through the first week with a 3 set win over Richel Hogenkamp before improving her level to claim straight set wins over Donna Vekic and Karolina Pliskova. Sharapova was scheduled to meet Serena Williams in the fourth round but was handed a walkover into the next round.

     It should be all positive thoughts ahead of hosting a World Cup, but all too often we find that being the host side is just too much for players and managers alike. Especially if the team isn't at the very top. Russia certainly are not, and the way they have been playing lately is going to have them very nervous once the World Cup begins if they cannot turn it around. This is their final friendly before kicking off against Saudi Arabia, but you just can't see Turkey losing here.

Buoyed by captain Alex Ovechkin, whose body language definitely gives away his eagerness to put his hands on the Stanley Cup, Washington looks like a team on a mission. It hasn’t done that well on own ice this postseason overall (5-5), but has managed to win its last two domestic fixtures, outscoring its opponents 6-1. Another solid showing is definitely on the cards here against Vegas, which has just not been able to switch on the higher gear it obviously needs to overcome the Capitals in this series.

San Francisco Giants (29-30, 17-10 Home) at Arizona Diamondbacks (31-27, 12-14 Away)

     The Giants got the upper hand on a Phillies team that has been very good this season, sooner than expected. Arizona is trying to get back on track after a miserable stretch that took them from 24-11 to 26-26 before this past week’s worth of games. The Diamondbacks have had success against the Giants this season and Godley earned a win in this park back in April, outdueling Holland. With San Francisco’s offense still questionable at best, look for Arizona to come up with the win in the opener.
