I agree with all the points listed in the OP. Knowing when to stop gambling is a very important skill to have because it could be the deciding factor as to whether you are going home with some money or penniless. Most gamblers experience self denial when they are caught in the trap of gambling too hard. . It’s good to have a fixed amount of money you’re willing to gamble for the day and also a good winning percentage you expect to get, make sure to call it a day when you get to that point.
It may be considered as a skill because doing so is hard, especially if you are still winning but, it must be mandatory and we already know why. Stopping at right time is an art in some sense but must be possible only after enough amount of experiences.
They tell themselves that they are going to get a win that will cover all their losses
These gamblers already calculated their win. It's too good to be true because I'm sure they are referring those high multiplier wins, judging on the way they act because they are surely playing gambling actively and lose on it very often.
I think all gamblers had set aside a certain amount, but they can only/still deposit more because gambling is addicting. And then there is that urge of trying to recover our losses when we are losing or trying to win more when we are winning. When you say good winning percentage, I think it sounds high. But they rather need a small and realistic amount only as it's more achievable, however or at the same time, they might still not be contented with it.
