UPDATE:

BLOCKCHAIN FOR AFRICA - NAIROBI, KENYA - 29/07/2017

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/blockchain-for-africa-tickets-36263064803

If anybody in the community happens to be in Nairobi on the 29th, please come and say hello! I'll be traveling from London to attend. I'm... wait for it... super excited! Cheesy

We're going to be investigating blockchain solutions to real world problems. The mobile fintech industry in Africa is maturing and leading the world in innovation. Blockchain is the next step in it's evolution. We aim to be at the forefront of blockchain development in Africa. Bitsoko, Satoshi Centre, and of course, Kobocoin, is the most formidable blockchain collaboration in Africa right now.

Kobocoin's parameters were chosen with mobile fintech applications in mind. Anyone who's been here from the start knows this. I'm aiming to convince developers to exploit the Kobocoin blockchain as well, and not just the Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchains. The Kobocoin blockchain is for the savvy minds at this time.

Exciting times!

I will post the conference flyer here (that has my smiling head on it) when it's ready for publishing.

UPDATE:

Kobocoin and Bitsoko to join forces to move blockchain innovation forward in Africa

I'll be travelling to Nairobi, Kenya for a one day conference taking place on July 29th. In attendance will be the great and good of blockchain development on the African continent. The audience will include corporations interested in what blockchain can do for them, venture capitalists looking for the next big thing after MPesa to invest in, developers wanting to move into the blockchain arena, and existing names in the blockchain space in Africa who want to be a part of the movement.

Over 300 invitees will be attending. The main moderators of the conference will be:

Frank Deya - https://twitter.com/FlamestingInc - Bitsoko
Alakanani Itireleng - https://twitter.com/bitcoinlady - Satoshi Centre, Botswana
and yours truly, Felix Ugoji - Kobocoin

As well as hosting the conference we will be making firm committments to start a blockchain incubator which aims to:

- Disrupt the biggest mobile fintech market on the planet
- Create applications that challenge the existing financial instruments, assets, and subscription based services
- Start churning out blockchain applications based on new and existing requirements beyond the purely financial
- Engage with African governments, and government agencies, to encourage changes in legislation that allow blockchain innovation to flourish in Africa without restriction
- Encourage a new generation of blockchain developers and entrepeneurs
- Provide a think tank that can be approached by governments and corporations who want to explore the technology
- Provide or recommend teams to build anything blockchain related that is required by any government or corporation

This will be the start of a massive initiative. Together we will make a formidable team of experienced blockchain advocates and developers.

This conference is just the start. This event will massively raise the visibility of Kobocoin in Africa and beyond. Remember that Bitsoko, as well as receiving an $100,000 grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, also have a committment for a further $1,000,000 if they are successful in introducing blockchain tech in Africa. Kobocoin will now gain visibility with Bitsoko partners and, as an established mainstream cryptocurrency, this can only be a good thing.

I will also be investigating where kobocoin can replace existing consumer services. Bitsoko have already started their investigations and started looking at areas where blockchain tech can easily replace existing consumer services. Autonomous crypto tokens can easily replace existing services tied to individual corporations. We are not re-inventing the wheel. Existing products can be outsourced to blockchain tech.

Read - http://techmoran.com/bitsoko-launches-bits-loyalty-program-to-encourage-uptake-of-blockchain-technology-in-kenya/

This is a very exciting time. We are now starting to look at real world adoption and how to achieve it for the benefit of the consumer.

I will update you as things progress.

This is not entirely a bad thing. It allows me to take a helicopter view of what's going on before rushing in.

It's been a while. Could you give us an update, please?

Anyone knows why my client isn't synchronizing completely? I recently updated from 2.0.0 to 2.1.0.3 from Bitbucket.
After some days, Kobocoin has downloaded 1164009 blocks. But now, it takes very very very long before the next block is downloaded.
My impression is that the client downloaded all 1213613 blocks but shows a wrong number of blocks.
I already removed the downloaded block files to download again but unfortunately with the same result Sad

Kobocoin - Mobile Money for Africa
A very quick update.

Unfortunately, the dev I hired to do some work on the mobile app earlier this year wasn't up to the job. Crypto development is no joke. Very few people are really capable. Not the best news to give you guys, I know Sad (I've been hesitating giving the bad news). And I've, once again, moved home. The builders have been in for a month getting the place ready. The move process has been going on since the beginning of the year. I'm hunkered down in a single room (on an airbed) with no real amenities and I still need a new Linux box with enough power to handle the work required. I can now understand ICO for sure but that will not happen here.

I've been in touch with a few well known independent devs but at the moment they're implementing updates in other cryptos. DASH is ring-fencing a lot of devs out there!

This is not entirely a bad thing. It allows me to take a helicopter view of what's going on before rushing in. There's been a lot of development in crypto over the last few months. When things settle I will be getting someone to take a good hard look at the base code. The code is at v2.1.0.3. I want to take a look at what can be implemented in KOBO without requiring a hard fork. This should mean new wallets at some point. I want updates to the code to bring it up to v2.2. With the delay I can check which developments mean something future-proof and which ones are fluff and unnecessary.

I want to add some features that you've probably all been reading about in some other cryptos. I need to make sure they'll work with X15 PoS. The main thing is implementing an instant send feature (if possible). I also want to see if it is possible to get KOBO onto BlockNet. I want KOBO to be part of an Internet of Blockchains. I think it's necessary for the future.

I'm very relieved to see good trading volume since I got us onto Cryptopia. Yobit was a brutal bottleneck to trading progress and people still have KOBO stuck there. Just look at the difference now. With the current volume I think we might have a benefactor somewhere. They might have teeth though. We could be being used for PnD right now, but I'll take the current gradual increase in trading volume with no complaints!

As in the past, when the updates start it will happen relatively quickly with lots of updates, so don't lose hope. Your patience will be rewarded.

As ever, KOBO's reputation is spreading to the right areas and we've dragged ourselves out of the abyss. I've even been offered positions with some new projects but stupidly I've turned them down. I'd rather devote my time to KOBO's future. We have a mature blockchain that needs to be brought right up to date and cleaned up for the future, and it will be. Same with the infrastructure behind it.

Anyways, I'm sure you're all smiling and looking at Lambo brochures with the recent rises in crypto so I'll leave you all to get back to those green figures!

will this wallet work on a ubuntu VPS ?
Yes it will. Mine are running on 14.04.
is there a link on how to do this ?

I hope you're ready for long nights Cheesy

There is a method but it's not documented for Kobocoin. Use the following Litecoin instructions as a guide:
https://www.lurkmore.com/view/Compiling_the_Litecoin_daemon_from_source_on_Debian

Compiling the daemon is generally the same for most altcoins. Download the source code from https://bitbucket.org/TheTribesman/kobocoin

I'm getting no connection to network and my new kobo install will not sync ,,,

I have my anti virus off,,,

are there new nodes to put in the conf file ??

cheers

Mine would not work, too. I have tried to crack my display with a hammer but it bounced off IPS matrix like a rubber band. I forgot that my display has a bulletproof screen. Nodes, u can see some nodes in the op, but better dont. OP is uglier than my last girlfriend, and contents no definitive statement about kobo's goals and what its focused on. I have a suspicion that kobo is focused on wiping shit off my toilet drain.

I understand your frustration. Have you tried with the node list I posted above? I will update the OP.

The problem is that only YoBit has any volume and the other three are near zero volume. Do you know when YoBit will open for KOBO again?

i wouldn't know, and never hope, not the place for real business.
also prolly they locked wallet on maintenance exactly to make some "volume",
meaning to make some profit which won't be easy or even possible with wallet open.
it's so natural for yobit

Nothing personal but Yo-Yo! Bit would not let toilet eaters like u know how they manage to maintain a doable turnover without making fake volume generator problem too apparent. I have ran money-making bots on poloniex but never on yobit because Im fearful to hook my software up to their API. It might sound retarded but rumors are that yobit sucks legit volume out of all the other little exchanges through Volume Sucker - gateway that uses NASA protocols as base.
