Apparently, Ronald Koeman has been chosen as a new Barcelona manager.

Another gamble from Barcelona, his 2 previous jobs were Southampton and Everton and he was never in charge of a top team before.

He did really well in Euro qualifiers with Netherlands but it was in a really weak group. He did beat Germany though.
If this is indeed interesting, the experienced coach has won the Champions League, European League, Spanish League, etc. However, it seems there has been no official statement from Barcelona yet. What I know is that he is still under contract with the Netherlands until 2022. If it's official I'm interested in what he will do with the team, especially the team's crisis of confidence in the coach.

Koeman was an important player for Barcelona and a lot of people know him, he will be well received and accepted, which is a very important factor. This fact will surely buy him time and good grace to have space to work with the team and build new foundations.

He did good job so far in his coaching career and I think he is a natural and good choice for Barca.

Koeman played for Barcelona 30 years ago.
I definitely disagree about his coaching career success. He was good at Southampton but then did a really bad job at Everton and he got sacked after dragging them into the relegation zone after spending more than 100 million ounds on new players.

He's definitely unproven and has not managed at a club level since 2017, national team is a different environment. He will not be given time, he will be put under instant pressure because they will demand results immediately. That's the way it works at Barca and I really do feel that Koeman is another mistake.

It seems that lately everyone wants to copy the example of Real and their coach Zidane.
Just look at the examples of Manchester United, Milan and many other clubs.
Club owners mistakenly think they just need to find some former football star for a coach and instant success will come.
However, the case of Zidane is a big exception and not the rule.
In most cases, such experiments fail and are a reflection of the despair of clubs that don't have time to wait for results, don't have a strategy and long-term goals and wants only instant results regardless of the consequences.
I have a feeling that even this experiment in Barcelona will not end well.

Damn, what a interesting transfer. David Silva from Man City moved to Real Sociedad, despite that he was linked with Lazio. Very solid signing for Sociedad, it will be interesting to see him in La Liga. Even at such age, he is still great player.
...

i just wanted to report the successful transfer of David Silva in the Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions thread.
in fact this is a very interesting deal that will definitely make real sociedad stronger

I don't think Valverde or Setien were main problem. With current board they may continue changing managers, but it won't help. Now Barca squad need serious rebuild. They paid over 300 millions for Dembele, Griezmann and Coutinho, what we have now? One is always injured, another is on bench and third is scoring goals against Barca. And changing Arthur to get Pjanic is something ridiculous... Smiley

Arthur for Pjanic was done to balance the books and avoid sanctions from Financial Fair play. They didn't exchange the players. They actually bought each others players and gave them long contracts. The rule is when you buy player his worth is amortized trough all years of contract. So If they bought player for 80M on 4 year contract that is written as 20M per year. When you sell a player, whole amount goes in that year. So they basically earned 60M or whatever for that transfer. I wrote about that with exact numbers when it happened. had to research it in detail since decision looked like total crap when I read about it first.

All your other points however stand, and their transfer politics has really been bad in the lately.

Do you think the failure of Barcelona last season is because of Abidal and President or just because their coach?

hmph..
Today I read a news about Messi refused to extend his contract offer given by Barcelona. The media's says if Messi will consider extending if Barcelona also make a decision to change their management. On the news, Barcelona President and Abidal the two man must be out from this clubs if want Messi stay in clubs. I don't know why Messi has a power to suggest a clubs changes the management. Just because he is the star in Barcelona, he must follow the management. Do you think the failure of Barcelona last season is because of Abidal and President or just because their coach?

It is like Barcelona do not have or do not want to spend money in the coach position.
Koeman is a new risk for them and I don't think that he is going to be a good influencer to the players. Also, the manager should have connections with big players and I don't think that Koeman can provide that to Barca.

I don't think it is the reason. How can a big club like Barcelona don't want to spend money on a coach? Coach has a big role and also the key for Barcelona FC to be successful or not in the next season. So, the reason should be another thing. I suspect Barcelona management may think Koeman is a typical coach who fits with Barcelona football style. Barcelona also probably has a good relationship with Koeman. However, whatever the reason, we should let Koeman show us what he can do. Don't be so pessimistic, mate!!

Bayern has a coach who was able to convey his ideas to the players, and Barcelona has a coach who could not. Experience and desire alone cannot win the Champions League.

I think Barcelona needs big changes right now.
Barcelona has a crisis of results, and finance and management
They urgently need better management and have to rely much more on their football academy and young players.
They also have to start preparing for the time after Messi.

Their defense is already shit. In a year or two all the players will get old. It's not a small crisis it's gonna be big in coming years. They have to straighten their financial position right now. They have quite few talents but they will also gonna take time to develop. It's a real challenge for Barcelona. I think they should buy some young players with good talent at a decent price and not focus on some players with heavy price tag like Neymar.

You forget that this is Barcelona, a club that is used to winning trophies every year  Grin
There is no chance that Barcelona could accept such an idea, get rid of old and expensive players and focus on young talents.
If anyone tried that, they would not lead Barcelona within a year.
In Barcelona, they always ultimately looking for results and victories, so they have no choice but to spend money (which they don't currently have) on new and expensive players.

It's true that Barcelona is a team that always wins trophies every year. I'm sure Barcelona will make improvements next season,
is likely to replace coach Quique Setien if he fails to win the Champions League trophies. And sell some of their players, to be able
to purchased some expensive players. I see Barcelona's failure to win the La Liga trophies because of internal problems, not because
of the game they are bad. I'm sure next season Barcelona will win the La Liga trophies from Real Madrid.

I agree that Barcelona had a lot of internal problems this year that affected the results.
But I think the bigger problem is that Barcelona have not found the right replacements for Xavi and Iniesta so far and mostly everyone is waiting for what Messi will do in every game.
Barcelona has become a "one man show" and is too dependent on Messi and that is not good.
In many games tie Stegen has saved Barcelona and he is the only Barcelona player to have played at a top level this year, alongside Messi.
It turned out that this was not enough for top results and victories and Barcelona urgently needed a major overhaul.

~if you look at the current Barcelona squad you’ll realise that they don’t have any big player other than Messi that can get them those winning goals, and I know some will cite Grizeman but he has completely flopped this season.~
Hey mate, do you forget Luis Suarez? Actually, they shouldn't have problem with strikers and midfielders, they have enough strong players there. Especially for strikers, they have Messi, Suarez, and Griezman. For me, they are more than enough to get the winning goals. The real problem is on defense line, Barca only has Pique as the stronger one, while Alba seems not quite strong as a defender and Umtiti still can't show his best performance.

Indeed, and on top of that they can sign good players in the attacking and midfield line.
There are plenty of good players out there that can play competitively in Barca and have an outstanding performance.
The real problem is in defense where they do not have a clear leader or a player that can be the one-man in the line like Puyol was in the past.

https://www.skysports.com/football/bay-munich-vs-chelsea/report/421730 (Why I expect Bayern to defeat Barcelona by a huge margin)

https://www.skysports.com/football/barcelona-vs-napoli/report/421729 (Once again Messi leading them to a victory)

With the current Barcelona transfer conditions which it's looks pretty bad on how they acquired players .. I'd say messi will stay carrying Barcelona next season and of course that's something that not really expected by the fans.

Still .. you can't underrate them , messi has proven everyone wrong with his magical touch a lot of times.
Even with his age that yeah he's not young anymore.
This is a nightmare.. something that unusual for Barcelona to always become a non favorite side thesedays.

I do not understand why Pep never gets any attention, City is banned from champions league for at least 2 more years, he could just rip out his contract and go to Barcelona, whatever the cost is Barcelona could pay him that much anyway, this is the dude that had the sextuple with this team, that is unique and I do not remember any team that did that in recent memory, not saying he will do that once again but if anyone can fix this team and make them good once again, it is definitely Pep.
Wait a minute... Maybe I am behind the news or you are behind the news. Wasn't Manchseter City's 2-year Champion's League ban lifted?

The reason he's not on the radar could be because he just doesn't want to go back to Barcelona nonetheless.

All of this "I gave my word to City and signed a contract, I will not leave just because they got a penalty" BS is useless, it was City management that did something against the rules and that is why Pep is not guilty if he leaves, on contrary he has that right to leave even more now.
Maybe because he is smart enough to know (or reassured) that the ban will be lifted? and because Barcelona is crap right now with many problems and no cash?
I think he made the best choice and it will be fantastic if he win the CL this season!
