Not sure if this is true.

Antminer backdoor on bitmain and perhaps all machines.

Or is this just a feature?

Very scary indeed.

I've already made the recommended change to avoid this in my S9's. I plan to do the same with the L3+, assuming that I receive it.

Yup, will be doing the same here on this. I hope this garners enough attention to get people from Bitmain to respond.

wouldn't it be easier to just block the domain from your network using your router? that way nothing on the network can contact auth.minerlink.com. Or block keyword minerlink. I did both but only have do it once for whole network, not on every antminer

interesting article though

Safest to point the miner at itself by using 127.0.0.1 in the hosts file. You can still block auth.minerlink.com but the hosts file edit makes it much harder for it to do anything it shouldn't.

I suspect this is something they use for internal testing to allow mass control of miners and they never bothered to turn the shit off after shipping.

Congratulations to all former July buyers for about 1800 USD...
...and Litecoin Rate goes to south also.

Wow

I suspect this is to drive sales and an anticipation that they won't have a high return by that time.

I can't resolve auth.minerlink.com on my network anyway.  I can however resolve minerlink.com.

Since auth.minerlink.com is a subdomain of minerlink.com I would guess that means you really need a host file entry to block minerlink.com since there does not appear to be a dns record on the interweb for the auth subdomain.  I am skeptical of this whole thing though.  I think if my miners suddenly stop mining I'll investigate blocking that domain on my network.

that backdoor only serves one purpose:

a 51% attack.... plain and simple.   introduce it on the fastest model;  wait till all the outdated stuff gets replaced, and you can control whatever you want.  Pretty sickening.  People need to stop spending on this company.    I have been very skeptical till now;  and rightfully so I guess.

i stopped buying bitmain shit after dusty, used gear was sent to me. Fuck china and their way of business.
When people asking me about mining? i always saying GTFO and buy coins instead.

I hope thanks to me few wannabe miners saved instead lost.

feature to kill any miner not working for jihan bastard wu.

If you think jihan made mistake by doing it than think again.
They are ready to do whats needed to kill anyone against them.

This feature is exactly for that reason.

Only prayer really is if somehow LTC price can keep up with the difficulty.....

yep bitmain either plays the flat difficulty and we see little miners outside of their data hall in the world till say end of fall

or

they use this to pump difficulty so far up they drive from the pow scrypt field all asic's not made by bitmain (though that would
mean say L3's would be the next to fall of the cliff as other stuff was pushed off)

thus are the a local country villian?

or a world domination villan?

it will be one camp or the other Sad

My bet: They will do what this guy below always wants to do....and likely will be successful at it for all pow scrypt/ sha-256 and I'd bet my left nut
they are going to make an X11 miner and do the same with that.

but again ...likely this

Bitmain...it is how they roll.....asic's popping out in the world like 'toasters' sheesh

edit: further proof of their 'evilness' and 'fake firmware problem' the link below the guy says he has an L3+ with January Firmware...so much for that lie.

taken from the below post and thread from a guy who says on bitcointalk he has gotten an April 15th Bitmain L3=

quote:

the most interesting thing is the file system version. it says the version is from jan 20th lol. if they really delayed the miners because of firmware issues that date would be changed because they would have had to load a new firmware version recently....not 3 months ago so this is more proof that what he said was a lie.here is an exact copy and paste of the miners front page:

Miner Type   Antminer L3+

pretty damning stuff imho...but wtf..not like they have to worry about 'customer concerns' as the only asic maker of anything of any size/note. (evil works tm: bitmain) Sad

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.18754421

sh*t they are so evil they don't even TRY to hide it ...damn lazy ....if your plan is world asic control...step up your game..no pride in their 'evilness' ....damn slackers!!!!!

your posts are always funny and informative 10/10 lol

but yeah . .  wish I had an l3+ miner as of ..  today!  Shocked

Yeah the firmware problems everyone knew were a joke, it was to block segwit.  Once they signed on, magically the firmware issues were relieved...im just hoping by the grace of god that they dont go the death route you are thinking in that they will kill off pretty much everything else.  Need some good scrypt alts to get lively to be able to spread the hash around.....we shall see.

We will imho know soon if they toss up another AUGUST 15th batch link on their page in the next couple days.

Imho, that means full balls to the wall toasters.....and if they do stuff I will go 'full asic squirrel mode" and hoard frigging LTC (mostly)
and BTC like frigging walnuts.....

it would be nice to know ..one way or another though .....

if they DON'T offer anything and go back to vague promises of equip in fall like bitmain has done before

that means they are gonna 'mine like hell' and like the rest of us are looking for an LTC price pump on seg witness etc

that is even better for me in 1/2 of my hash is knc titans...that are paid for and should already be dead for all intents and purposes (evil they are can't die imho) Smiley

be nice to know which thou as soon as possible this last month I feel like a yo/yo...it is unerving how fast crap has changed Smiley

edit: full evil watch

Am I wrong, but did not spondolies-tech have something to do with asic boost etc? Found this. IF I'm correct things are really falling into place for Bitmain Smiley

Anyone in the April Batch get word of whats going on yet? They still having "firmware" issues even though they have already chipped out 1.5 TH worth of miners to their chinese pools?

Are you in April Batch? You didn't get shipping info?

No I bought a few in the May batch, but the April guys should have been shipped out by now, since they are supposedly paying out daily till delivery.

They have started shipping most out already.

Well from difficulty going up again...the 40% previous rises were from them using equip they should have sent to us...(kept i had 4 pulled back after payment)
that was L3's at the begining of the month....now it is looking like it may also hit 30% with the L3+ and april orders backlog....add another 30% for the may
units and 30% for the july units.....not to mention what they are keeping back for their own data halls to mine

hooo boy are we gonna get 'elevator sick' on the difficulty ride up ....I would HOPE they slow down some and in the fact they mine ...they don't have to
kick units out like toasters...but is seems that is what bitmain does...kicks out units like they will never kick out another model ever

zoom, zoom in the worst case from my home miner point of view...dificulty wise

asics everywhere (sigh) we be a climbing up the asic side of the roller coaster me thinks (bitmain has the mountain with the ski lift cars) sheesh......

Searing looks like you got your wish Bitmain July L3+ sold out or its no longer listed on there website.

Can any one else please confirm that? I didn't see any doesn't mean they are not there.. I did have few shots of whiskey before i started trolling bitmains website.
Thanks

Well you are right. ALL asic equipment btc and ltc is gone. Only thing left is psu's and the antminer $39 router toy.

Bitmain July batch sold out. So bitmain has everyone by the balls. If they stop now we are golden. If not it is gonna be completely only thing mineable will be bitmain devices by say oct/nov. So will they blow it all up to keep all other asic makers at this coming diff an own it all or let it plateau and graze up coin. Damn

They could be untouchable and be ONLY asic maker of crypto for pow scrypt and sha-256 far into the future.

Hell, they could just buy out baikal and own X11 in this scenario too.

Either makes them big $$$, but pumping out equip like toasters drives all potential
asic competition from the battle field and the win the asic empire. You mine bitmain products
after constant refills/rotate in and out of their asic ltc and btc data halls and us peasants get
scraps from the only company store. Hell, it is like real dirt mining coal companies in
the 1800's who kept miners locked in poverty because rent/food/store a monopoly to keep the miners in their place!

FML. This is like a bad StarTrek 'Time Travel Episode'.
