I’m curious if legalized gambling is going to start taking a bite out of crypto’s gambling empire. It would be hard to argue against gambling being one of cryptos most profitable industries. I wonder if this will have an effect on gambling and might even possibly begin to change the landscape of bitcointalk as we have all grown accustomed to seeing gambling advertisements everywhere.

In Russia, any casino or slot machine is illegal, but for some reason this does not apply to gaming sites... But there are many illegal casinos where absolutely addicted gamblers play slots, and it all looks terrible...The owners of such casinos pay bribes and are ignored by the police...
But there are plenty of bookies! So the government's policy on gambling is not quite clear to me...

That's expected, casino operators resort to bribing officials to continue their operation, and it has become a cash cow of corrupt government officials, the government did not, or refuse to see this, the government can make money from the taxes they imposed on these gambling casinos
only countries with religious imposed bans should ban gambling if it is not they should consider regulating these casinos, I'm glad that we are an open country and gambling is legal and it's helping our government through taxes.
It's a good cash-cow either casino owners pay taxes as government mandate that as obligation but behind that there are corrupt officials who also getting a good amount of bribe money either to lower the taxes or to bring their business quicker, taking shortcut without undergoing with the right process.

Things like this are always present when dealing with a good amount of money. Corrupt officials see this as opportunities to add up more money to their bank accounts.

I am just kind of curious how legalized gambling is coming along in whatever part of the world you live in?  I'm from Illinois in the United States and we just recently legalized many forms of gambling.  It's progressing pretty quickly too.  I'm hearing a lot of radio ads, seeing ads on TV for different sports books and what not etc.  I see this as great progress.  Free will is something we all deserve and though I know gambling can cause serious addiction etc, that shouldn't be up to our governments to decide whether we should be allowed to do it or not.

So I ask you, how is it coming along where you live?  Is it fully legal, coming close to being legal, or illegal with no change in sight?
Most physical casinos are placed mostly near in capital city here on my country and i do only see a few that are placed or located on provinces which is a bit understandable. They arent placing it on

poor areas but rather reside on where wealthy people do live on and so this means that they do allow such business to exist or operate then it signifies that it isnt really against with gambling

and the fact it is one of the most high tax payers on the country which it is impossible that government would really go against it.

Well yeah, I'd say that any sort of gambling is somehow legal in here as long you have a license for it and you pay taxes. Meaning, as long as you are Legal by law and papers any gambling is allowed. That's why a lot of foreign investors (let's say Chinese) are starting up online casinos, since getting a License is quite easy as long as you have the money to pay. Money to bribe those people who have positions in Local Government. Also, there are a lot of gambling sites that are only Legal as long as they aren't caught  Grin This is common here in our country, but since they have the money, even they get caught they'll just transfer from one place to another.

It's a bit so and so in my country, it has designated places and it's not popular on the poor population since they organize their own gambling operation which is mostly illegal but so far no authority cares too much about them.

Unfortunately, there are illegal gambling establishments that have resurfaced in the following years ever since our President was elected.

Like what I previously mentioned, PAGCOR is the biggest gambling establishment created by law in the Philippines and it is responsible for bringing large amounts of revenue in the country. But with the resurface of illegal gambling websites/establishments, this puts a toll on the overall revenue of the country which can lead to a shortage of government expenditures as a whole.
I didn't know about the resurfacing part but I do understand why they're losing revenue, it's because of the illegal establishments in the country, not to mention that they're probably paying a lot of money for protection that they're not scared of going public.

I live in the Philippines, and it’s a strange country to be in as offshore gambling services represented by mostly Chinese nationals and organizations are allowed, whereas the online gambling industry is mostly frowned upon and may sometimes lead you to trouble when the bank that you’re using is strict when it comes to gambling-related transfers. There isn’t any law explicitly stating that online gambling is prohibited, but banks themselves are blocking transfers from online gambling providers, and I’ve heard lots of stories from people which got their funds stuck for a long time before they managed to withdraw it after a long battle against the banks that withheld their money.

Honestly I do not understand why gambling is considered as a crime in my country while it does not affect or harm others.
I think it's because of the pressure from religious-political power. Remember that previously alcohol also allowed and local government has shares in a beer company. Remember the recent polemics about the investment in alcoholic beverages? Pros and cons are depend on the study, it's not 100% black and white. But one thing for sure, as long as Indonesia is a religious country + socialist system, I think gambling won't be legal, at least in my lifetime.

Took a few days off from the forum and had forgotten I had posted this. I really appreciate everyone sharing on this topic. One of my favorite parts of bitcoin is having a website where I can interact with others from all over the world. I love learning about other cultures, and in this case how one’s culture views legalized gambling. Will go over replied in more depth when I get a moment but thanks again to everyone for sharing.

Wasn't that the point of commercializing the Internet? To be used to connect the world regardless of the distance. This is actually good because it helps us destroy racism and bigotry since we electronically experience the different cultures.

Am from Nigeria and to put it short, I did say that our government has not paid any attention to gambling, from what I stand, gambling in my country has never been officially banned or legalized(I stand to be corrected incase am missing something ), people freely go about playing all forms of gambling games both the local one we call baba ijebu(lotto) and the digital ones like sports betting, dog race betting and a host of others.

So conclusions is that, all forms of gambling and betting are all open to any one and every one who's interested in it.

I guess that the illegal gambling places were available in that country because slot which has its fan will try to search where the offline casino has slot games. It is not surprising to see the casino bribes the police and regulator because the casino owner wants to make sure their business is still running. I wonder how the gambler knows the places since that place is hidden and under the radar from the other police.

For the most part, the inmates of such establishments are marginalised people, with information coming to them from people like them... An acquaintance of mine was once a gambling addict and showed me such a place once... Everyone there knows each other and comes to gamble all the time... There they are offered free alcohol or cigarettes... All in all, to a normal person it looks more like a rabble of marginal people!

Do not die for Putin
You have legal and regulated gambling, widely accepted and accessible at every corner. In fact, betting shops are within the 5 most frequent you may find on a walk around any street and more if the street is in a poor area of town. You can also access all types of illegal or barely legal gambling all over town, mixed with drugs and sometimes paid sex offers. So... it is legal and if it were not, there would be no shortage of offers.

Eloncoin.org - Mars, here we come!

Our government stand in gambling is depend on who is sitting as president and what kind of administration they might be.

in the past the government is very strict in imposing laws against gambling specially the rising of casino houses but this recent?
they are allowing multiple construction of casino houses here and there.
meaning that we as people can only relate in what is legal and illegal.

but my stand about this is that We can play as long as in legal places , and also can risk playing in illegal houses that offers some kind of gambling.

Where I live now is a massive ban ongoing since early 2019 on small gambling clubs and casinos of the neighborhood. There was only one the Regency the biggest one,now it is another competitor that came in which is Plaza casino, both reside on five star hotels and it is said that high profile people in the government have shares in them that is why they are allowed. The people here used to gamble a lot in the small ones because you could play with as little as 0.10 USD bet while in the big ones the min bet is 2 USD so only the rich one gamble here now.The normal people go to use VPN-s to access bet365 and alike online because even the online well known domains are banned by all ISP-s here.

In my country gambling is completely legal. There are casinos almost everywhere.I live in a small town and there was a casino, but it was closed, probably due to lack of players,or because there was a problem with the property.
Lottery games became a state owned monopoly 2 years ago,so the private companies offering lottery games were closed.I don't know if this is good or bad.Maybe it helped for reducing the lottery addicts a little bit.
Sports betting is  very big and the bookmakers are competing furiously.
There was discussion in the parliament about reducing the number of offline casinos, but there won't be change before 2025,when many of the gambling licenses will expire,AFAIK.

I don't see why some countries would put it in an illegal way. There's a lot of money that can be accumulated from it for one government to be progressive.
Each country has their own reason why they have been banning or treating gambling is Illegal .
Quote
Maybe even with a religious country they still let it go if it means more funding to make the country grow.
Yeah most of those have this valid reason.
Quote
Here in our country there are still illegal ways to gamble but they are mostly just local games like cockfights and card games. But most large casinos do have permits and even government officials go there to promote it bringing tourists to play.
Cockfighting is illegal if happen outside the cockfighting Arena right? because i believe that there are certain places that allows this .
