I live in Africa, particularly in Mozambique, and I must say that here in Africa, particularly in my country, it has been common for many people to resort to black magic in order to have money. Honestly, I personally do not believe in anything about black magic. I have always believed in science, but unfortunately I have to watch many cases of superstition in my country. There are cases of people who consulted these guys:

They took out loans and then went to play on Aviator and lost everything. Feeling hopeless, they committed suicide, and the saddest thing about all this is that the number of people who do this has increased. But the government of my country does not have the courage to criticize the guys who consider themselves to have the power to predict the future, give wealth to other people and even consider themselves to have the power to cure any disease. But this is all a lie. But people continue to believe in them.

#3, I knew it invited wind and always thought it was a good thing since it was so bloody hot in my area lol. When I learned about it I used to whistle all the time just to hope for that cooling breeze and I'd usually take it as a lucky sign.

For 5, completely agree. Don't you think avoiding players who lost badly sneakily like that would invite more misfortune than avoiding them? Not to mention I don't think casinos even have multiple front entrances for the general user lol. Maybe big ones, but then again every entrance would've had some sort of bad luck already if that was actually true.

So far I have never believed in superstition but maybe people in the past made it something that must be done first before you do something that is believed that the ritual can bring success or safety, but I think especially when we talk about gambling then it will not affect the results because after all especially in the type of casino game the dealer has arranged everything in such a way, in the sense that they are the ones who will always profit in the long run and not the gambler.

On the other hand I only believe that luck is something that comes naturally, for me luck is something that cannot be brought by doing one or two ways, meaning that the ritual that is done before you bet will not be able to invite luck, and even if luck comes I only believe that it comes not because I did the previous ritual, but it doesn't matter if you want to try to combine it.

Personally I don't give a crap about it but if you talk to me about some superstitions before I play, I'd 100% try to follow it (or avoid if its bad) since it just sits on my mind bothering me when I play lol.

Some of them I first while others are very well-known superstitions.

One thing that I heard from the old people before that I cannot get out of my mind is the "washing the hands" before playing. They say having a dirty hand or a bad smelly hands could give you bad luck.
Of course, we don't if it's real or not because no one has proved that they suddenly got lucky after washing their hands. This kind of superstition is mostly for those who will be holding their cards for a long time. Poker, tong-its (a very well-known card game here in our country), and pusoy.

It is also interesting how superstitious people treat religion. After all, if you believe in God, then everything else will be considered paganism or something similar. I do not particularly delve into religion or omens and superstitions, but I can say that the more you believe that something can go wrong, the more what will come true. Therefore, stop engaging in ancient superstitions, and if you want to attract good luck, then tune yourself to positive energy, be grateful for everything you have, learn to love sincerely and do good, and then you will not be afraid of black cats that crossed your path, returning home because of something forgotten and the number 13.

#5: Front Entrance: They say that you shouldn’t pass through the casino through their front entrance as you may encounter a player who has lost and may therefore pass on their bad luck to you. Now, this one is borderline silly because what if a losing player leaves the casino through some other entrance and not the front one?

I’m confused to this. Does the casino before doesn’t have exit? Casino I’ve been visit always have an exit which means you can exit on the entrance therefore it’s impossible to experienced this since losers pass through different door.

On the other hand, I’m doing this in online table games like blackjack. I frequently hunt for table that has players experiencing losing streak then replace them when they are done. I believe that winning streak will follow that which is working to me until now.  Cheesy

It’s really fun to apply superstition or belief on gambling especially that there’s no way to define how luck works.

Anyway, Let me know if you do follow some superstitions even if it is just for fun. Or which ones you think are extremely ridiculous.
when it comes to certain believe systems that looks superstitious, it's part of the things we tend to look at and say "What you believe is what works out for you. as long as it's not a defined law that always happens wether you believe it or not, superstitious Believe is totally contextual and depends on wether the individual believes it or not.

Some persons attribute certain individuals to be lucky and so gambling while those folks are around would make them lucky. Others might still attribute there friends to bad luck and wouldn't want to gamble whenever thier friends is around. As long as you believe in certain thing, with time, it begins to look real and you might tend to believe that it's how it is meant to be. In the end, if you have identified a pattern that works well for you and helps you make better gambling  decisions, wether it's superstitious or not, it doesn't matter much, what really matters is that you're winning more of your prediction through it.

On the time or moment that you do play gambling and you've been applying some strategies or supertitious that you've been doing and it turned out to be a win, then you will really be that definitely be having that kind of thinking that it do works. You will be using up this supertitions on the moment that you do play gambling and this is something that you will be doing into your future bets or gambling.
Just we do all know that this is something that could give out that kind of effect on how lucky we would be. All of those things are really just that coincidence on which on the time that you do gamble
but it did turned out that you are really that been forcing it to work then you are basically putting up yourself on such desperation on which this one will really be resulting into that losing even more.

You wont really be stopping not until the time those things will really be that working specially that luck is something that will really be that comes randomly and no matter how many charms, chants or
those kind of behavior or application of something but still it wont really be that giving out that effect towards someones luck factor. You will really be having that kind of positivity
because of some lucky hits on before.

The concept of superstition in any case including gambling in this day and age seems to be starting to be abandoned because indeed things like this will be a little contrary to those who have the concept of rationality in their brains.

Well, given what many people say on the forum, superstitions among gamblers are not that rare, even if they are statistically much lower than 300 years ago where the majority of the population was illiterate and had no way of understanding casino mathematics or how the house edge works.

Superstitions only provide a subjective certainty that has no correlation with what happens.

I have noticed that athletes are often superstitious, I think there are many superstitious people among players too, and this is due to the fact that people who are expecting some results (no matter sports or game results) they may even unconsciously begin to look for similarities in those cases when they managed to achieve victory. This is what creates for such people the conviction that this could have become part of their victory and maybe it does not work completely, but they will still try to repeat the same conditions the next time they gamble.
I guess everyone has it's own superstitious belief, or maybe this is just way to look for excuses or blame for being a positive or negative? Just like for gamblers, they were red colors when they play or avoid that unlucky 13, and then win big, so perhaps it just reinforced their belief on that. But what if the opposite happen, they were that color and then lose big money in a casino? So for me this just human nature, we look for something that will explain everything, even the smallest details. But we all know that in luck based games, it doesn't work that way. Everything is still base on pure luck and it can't be known before hand. So even if you carry all the superstitious belief, but you don't have that luck, then you will not win.

I'm not really sure that number 13 though, I mean it is really a bad numbers as what others have said about it?

I guess I’ve heard of it already, and that it’s considered bad luck... and some gamblers avoid themselves betting when Friday lands on the 13th, calling it "Friday the 13th." But honestly, it doesn’t really matter. At the end of the day, even if we’re lucky now, the odds will eventually balance out because probability always wins in the long run.

If we look at the real chances in luck-based games, the house always has the edge. So, our only shot at winning is really just luck. If we start believing in superstitions to give us an edge, we’re already losing as our mindset is off from the start.

For me I don't treat it as bad or unlucky number, How about you played roulette and you bet on number 13 and with huge amount of money? I know that there are lot of superstitious belief if you are a gambler, but this one, I don't see it that way. And probably it could have come from the Chinese as they are big gamblers and have many beliefs, and who would forget their movies about gambling itself? Like God of Gamblers.

Coming from a very superstitious country, I grew up getting familiar with a lot of them and as I grow older I just become even more aware particularly in the context of gambling. Now, I am not recommending everyone to follow superstitions as at the end of the day, that is all they are: superstitions.

We often say that following superstitions would not cost us anything but for some, it may cause them mental distress and anxiety. Anyway, it is still pretty interesting to learn about superstitions and their origins no matter what your purpose is. Either just to laugh at how ridiculous it is or to meticulously follow them when you gamble, I don’t know but I would love to discuss!

#1 Unlucky 13: This is probably the most common superstition there is known to man. It is manifested in movies, books and even in real life. You would notice that a lot of hospitals do not have the 13th floor in their elevators. It goes from 12th to 14th. This fear of 13 originates from the Bible where in Jesus’ last supper, there were only 12 guests until Lucifer came making him the 13th guest and the one to betray Jesus. Another is in norse mythology where a dinner by the gods are held with only 12 of them until Loki, the god of mischief, comes along making him the 13th guest before causing chaos. Maybe gamblers avoid betting on this number.

#2 Whistling: Whistling while playing said to invite bad luck. This belief originates from sailors whistling which they thought to invite stronger winds and storm.

#3 Never count money/chips at the table: This is more of an etiquette and a way to protect yourselves but for some people they believe that doing this exudes pride which will invite bad luck and karma. Keep your money and count it when you get home.

#4 Color Red: The color red is deemed lucky in many cultures. The color is believed to bring prosperity and wealth. Wearing red when you gamble is said to make you lucky. I also noticed that many casinos’ motif is red. Coincidence?

#5: Front Entrance: They say that you shouldn’t pass through the casino through their front entrance as you may encounter a player who has lost and may therefore pass on their bad luck to you. Now, this one is borderline silly because what if a losing player leaves the casino through some other entrance and not the front one?

Anyway, Let me know if you do follow some superstitions even if it is just for fun. Or which ones you think are extremely ridiculous.

#1 We do know that 13 number specially on Friday on which this is really that known to be a bad luck or day, It isnt really just that applicable on gambling but also in other things as well.
#2 Whistling has nothing to do, what if it was really just that a behavior?
#3 Counting money or chips on the table? No one will stop you on doing that.
#4 How about when you do win up something on wearing some Black?  Grin
#5 So where you would be going in? In the exit? Its totally contradictory

Whatever the things that you are really that dealing into whether you are applying some superstitions or not then luck factor isnt something that could really be influenced by something.
If you are really that wanting to play gambling then you shouldnt really be mindful about on how to win up because it will really be just that making you desperate on the moment that you do play.
List of those superstitious approach is a long list on which there will really be still those arent that being included or being that mentioned above.

Each person does have their own beliefs that they will really be that applying on the moment that they do play gambling without even trying out to realize
that it doesnt really give out any effects.

What a nice one that of a front entrance. I am also raised in a very superstitious country for many other things and also gambling yet it is the first time I hear about the front entrance. Ok I can understand that as a physical location but what about people who only gamble online what would be the analog front entrance here  Grin. All the others I think I have heard them and I will say to add one very popular from my country which is that if people near you talk while you are playing slot machines a huge amount of bad luck will hit you instantly and from my personal experience this is true as I always lose when people near me talk while I play.

Nowadays, gambling relates more than often with rituals rather than superstition. Rituals may be various and different  for characters involved. I'm for instance always getting shaved before starting to gamble,   wear the same suite and stainless bracelet around my wrist in the course of gambling, some times take a drink to stay up. In my view any superstition is an unappealing throwback to the days of profound ignorance.

I believe in superstitions too, but it’s not something to rely on when it comes to gambling. People say it attracts luck, and I’m sure most of us have had those moments of feeling “lucky”, like winning one game after another. But staying realistic is still important; you can’t just count on luck. What really matters is knowing when to stop and call it a day, especially if you’re already up. This is even more true when you’re on a lucky streak.

My dad’s the same, he loves going to the cockpit on Sundays or for big events. He has his own set of superstitions, which makes sense since he’s old-school like that. Those superstitions may not be the best winning strategy, but it makes him happy, and every now and then, he even hits a big win. For him, it’s as much about the joy as it is about the chance to win.

But it cannot be denied that until now this still exists and is still done in some circles. Actually, I think it depends on them if they really want to believe in it because it is indeed a suggestion for them to convince themselves to win.
In my area there are more extreme superstitions like this where some of my friends who play lottery believe that if there is a misfortune related to a number (such as when there is a motorcycle accident or losing an item that has a number) it is believed that the lost number will provide new benefits if it is made into lottery.
I would not prohibit such a thing but on the other hand I would not follow such a thing because it is clearly contrary to my perspective and concept of life which does not believe in such things.
