Humans are always looking for explanations to what happens to them, since that is part of our nature, and while this can have very positive effects, just look around you and you will find all kind of devices that just a few decades ago would be unthinkable, at the same time that same tendency can take us to some places that are completely illogical, and superstitions are one of those places, and even if a person knows that this is the case, when facing a similar situation they may find themselves believing in absurd things they know they cannot be true.

Forcing yourself to believe and trying to follow thinking that it adds up to your luck, something that most of those desperate gamblers are doing, even they fully understand that in this industry there's no way that you can assure yourself to win, risk is everywhere and without luck even how good you are in playing or betting on the game that you love losing is always possible to take place whatever superstitious believe you follow.

I'm only sure of what people believe led to their winning a game. Like a discussion of a gambler who assumed his visitor was the reason he won big, and concluded that the person has some luck. All that doesn't work, it's just for people who wish to think that their believe has a little control on gaming outcomes. Typically, most gamblers always feel like they've got a chance in changing the way results work in casinos. That's why they run back to cultures like wearing red clothes to casinos hoping on luck.

Superstition is one element that can deviate us from the true practical things and have been an elusion for over decades of human existence and untill we come to a point where all that we believe in is fact and not assumptions then we have figured out what we really should expect along the line, but if basically all that we take into account as regards to our reality is biased and based on superstitions, we won't get anywhere near reality in life.

Gambling have nothing to do with superstitions or magic of any kind and if anyone tries to talk you into believing that, it then means that he or she will always end up scamming you, for example we have some gambler's who believes in magic to win a game, those set of gamblers are superstitious and will always end up with disappointment since nothing like magic works in gambling.

The idea of superstition in gambling is quite ridiculous because there's actually nothing you can do to attract luck or Manover the circumstancesto your advantage..I'm from a part of Africa where most people believe in doing charms to help them get lucky in whatever they are doing bet it trading, gambling or business..in the aspect of gambling it's governed by a principle of risk and reward, all you can do is hope to get lucky.. blowing whistles, wearing a specific color of shirt or whatever would not change anything, this is an insane thing to think about.

Quite interesting, consider you are from Africa. It seems there are actually many people from Africa here in the forum... Anyways, to me it seems there is a pattern with comes to all kind of superstitions surging in developing countries, like this in Africa and Latin America, and not so much in western Europe, for example.
Here in my country there is a belief that one can attract good luck by wearing yellow underwear during the festivities of New year, like literally just by wearing yellow undies. There is also another superstition which says one will get money and there will be no lack of food in the coming year if one throws coins and rice around during the the welcoming of the new year. It is something I have seen personally and it is quite curious, to say the least.

Just imagine someone throwing rice and coins around during a new year party.  Tongue

I don't believe in superstitions related to gambling. When luck is on your side, you focus on winning and don't think twice about superstition. It's only when we lose that we start attributing it to bad luck or superstition, forgetting that winning and losing are natural parts of life. We win some, we lose some - it's not about superstition, but rather the natural cycle of chance.

Things like avoiding the number 13 or walking through the front door are just made-up notions, not based on reality. When everyone's on a winning streak, no one thinks about superstition. But when losses occur, people start seeking explanations, blaming luck or superstition. I believe it's essential to recognize that winning and losing are inherent to the game, and superstition has no role to play.

The concept of superstition in any case including gambling in this day and age seems to be starting to be abandoned because indeed things like this will be a little contrary to those who have the concept of rationality in their brains.

Well, given what many people say on the forum, superstitions among gamblers are not that rare, even if they are statistically much lower than 300 years ago where the majority of the population was illiterate and had no way of understanding casino mathematics or how the house edge works.

Superstitions only provide a subjective certainty that has no correlation with what happens.
But it cannot be denied that even though today superstition is starting to be abandoned, there are still a handful of people who will always carry out some kind of ritual like this to make them feel confident about the gambling that is done.

But actually it doesn't matter either because after all it is also a suggestion so that they are more confident and even though they actually sometimes realize that what is done is just a condition that sometimes it's like wasting time but as long as it becomes a good suggestion to convince themselves I think it won't be a problem because indeed things like this also don't need to be complicated or even exaggerated.

Regardless of whether we believe or not it is a choice that we will make and it does not mean that we do not believe in superstition then others should also do the same because all have their own suggestions in the gambling that is done.

Anyway, Let me know if you do follow some superstitions even if it is just for fun. Or which ones you think are extremely ridiculous.
They are all ridiculous beliefs, but weirdly so is everything else, not just "classic" superstition.

People seem to be blind to their own magical thinking, and think that they win if they change games, or that they win if they change casinos, even when it comes to third party providers, they are playing exactly same games.

There are several other ways how people think subconsciously how to win, even those are based only to their feelings about it and nothing else. Imho this is subconsciously from any superstition. Only thing different about it, is that people are just creating their own myths about it, that are based on their own feelings, rather then believing an existing myths.

Superstition has been a strong culture in various countries they believe this can be in gambling including when you play and believe in superstition.

However, I don't believe this, it's just an illusion because some people still believe in this.

I see this superstition in lottery gambling, where those who want to place lottery tickets must look for sacred numbers if they want to be paired.
Many things have been known - for example, they go to the cemetery in case there is a whisper of a number.
Or looking for the license plate of a vehicle that is in an accident, usually this will be good luck.
And many more.

Every country has superstitions, urban legends, myths, and "magic." Some are well-known, and some aren't. Many people continue to believe in them and some try to preserve them, as a kind of national heritage of their country. Like the fairy tales, we tell to the children (or used to tell).
In any case, I believe that anything that makes you dysfunctional in any sense is not good. Wearing an "amulet" or having your socks be a different color because you believe that this way you will win is not a problem. Many times, however, the limits are crossed and your whole life revolves around these prejudices and superstitions alone and it becomes an illness. Anyone can think that it affects their betting in some way, but we all know that such a thing is simply not true. Cool

Anyway, Let me know if you do follow some superstitions even if it is just for fun. Or which ones you think are extremely ridiculous.

If we talk about superstition, there are actually many contexts that we can review. superstition is not always about something silly, we even have urban legend stories related to superstition. well, we can sort all of that and review it again. question, and it is important for us to reflect on, is it important for us to relate it to our social life. speaking in the context of gambling, there are many stories and superstitions involved in it and some of them have been shared by OP in this thread. to be honest, there are many stories related to superstition in my country and gambling is no exception. most of the superstitious phenomena are associated with lottery betting, which in many countries there are always those who use methods that link techniques or let's say superstitious formulas. well, in principle this depends on how superstition started in one area and developed among its people. like it or not, things like this will always exist, especially related to the human source itself. in gambling practice, however, superstition is never free from the people who associate it. it is difficult to explain and difficult to believe, but this phenomenon is real and exists. even though, we say it is ridiculous. I personally never associate superstition with gambling, moreover I prefer sports betting which is not too closely related to superstitious methods.

Superstition beliefs are not common in these days and I don't think any country still practiced those those things. In those days they were some beliefs that if we do that those things it would affect us or others and in some communities gambling was one those superstitions. Most of those superstitions are not existing because religious is taking over the traditional way of life. And Superstition beliefs came from traditional beliefs. But it is the lucky game is still reigning now. If you loss a game then it is a bad luck while if you win then good luck. And even at that, it is those traditionalist are still believing on superstition. And many gamblers still believing.

I have a casual superstitious belief which is in playing slot games, if you think that the new slot games do not give a huge win to you like used before, you must need to change a game first and try your luck and then take back again to that slot games and try again. Sometimes when I get a dead spin I restart the game itself and then try my uck again. Well it works sometimes but not not all the time. When I feel my emotions get carried away that's the time I stop playing for a while and then make a call for today, sometimes its a sign that you must need to take a rest and not get carried away with your emotions, still I'm in a self awareness in my gambling habit.

I think that superstition in gambling is for serious gamblers and addicts, any event that happens more than once and it precedes loses, will be seen as bad luck. For people that gambles for fun and don't take it too seriously, I doubt that they will have any superstitious believe. Events might have happened coincidentally more than once and people will capitalize on it to mean that it brings bad luck. People who believe in superstition should understand that gambling is based on luck, what made you to lose today can make you to win another day, so superstition shouldn't be taken seriously in gambling.

Superstition is usually something of the mind, if you believe, then it may just work for you, if you doubt them and find them ridiculous, its effect will avoid you.
Maybe gamblers avoid betting on this number.
There must be gamblers who picked this number and then still won. I do not think casino or casino algorithm considers superstition, if the winning number the algorithm picks is 13, the number will not change because there is a superstition around it.
#5: Front Entrance: They say that you shouldn’t pass through the casino through their front entrance as you may encounter a player who has lost and may therefore pass on their bad luck to you. Now, this one is borderline silly because what if a losing player leaves the casino through some other entrance and not the front one?
Or what if the casino has one entrance and exit Grin
Small sense to it is that if you see a depressed gambler leaving the casino rather than a happy one, it can affect your psychology.

#2 Whistling: Whistling while playing said to invite bad luck. This belief originates from sailors whistling which they thought to invite stronger winds and storm.
Honestly this particular one sounds so funny and interesting, i have never heard of such before in my life that whistling while gambling can cause bad luck, for me I think this act can make one to lose concentration,  that's is what I think though because I don't think superstition works in gambling.

People may have superstitious when it comes to gambling but I don't think they should be too rely and confident in the believe they have because I know as far as gambling is concerned it can never be predicted.  Gambling is a game of luck and this happens so naturally,  I don't think any believe can influence the luck that is in gambling to take place, if people are too superstitious in gambling I think they may go extreme to gamble so much believing their belief can give them what they want in gambling.

[...]and then you will not be afraid of black cats that crossed your path, returning home because of something forgotten and the number 13.
Meanwhile, if there's any form of creation that should be accused of utmost diabolism, it's humans! They're quick to believe they've been jinxed and that's why they're broke, but these same set of people are jobless.... How does that sound to a logical thinker? So most of them adulterate their religious beliefs and it's passed down from GENERATIONS TO GENERATIONS!!!

OP, this whole thing has nothing to do with your superstitious believes whatsoever... If your so-called superstitions were to be true, life would (in one way or the other) issue us a dead end... Yunno what that means...
That's like tryna imprison your MIND to be subjective to one lifestyle, pattern of progress, rules and obnoxious laws that exist nowhere else except in yo head!  What a stupid way to live life!

as the greatest sports bettor of all time, I can confidently say that superstitions are BOGUS! just do proper research and you'll win, I think I've won 23 of my last 24 bets by doing proper research and following my gut
You might be just manifesting the results from superstitious beliefs. Like thinking that maybe something happened because you did something specific is what strengthens this belief.

Superstitions can be fun to learn about but it may throw you off of your game. Sometimes, people get too anxious about following a certain ritual or method that they end up not doing well playing afterwards.

This is what I am worried about if I think about superstitions.

I don't even have a favorite number in the game of roulette. I don't consider 13 to be an unlucky number.

I never whistle during the game (solely because I can't whistle at all). At the same time, in my country there is a saying - "Don't whistle, or you won't have any money!"

In general, I have a principle - I usually believe in good omens, but I don't believe in bad ones. When I leave the house for important business, I usually sit on a chair (right before leaving the apartment) - for luck. But this ritual has a very pragmatic justification - during this time, while you sit motionless on the chair, you can remember some important things (for example, that you forgot to turn off the gas or the light in the apartment).

In general, I am probably too pragmatic to believe in various superstitions. If you think about it, I don't have any special rituals before the start of the game. I just place a bet and wait for the result.
