So I'm running my Gridseed for about 18 hours and I notice that cgminer is now showing "OFF" where it normally says the khashes rate, and obviously mining has ground to a complete halt - red and green lights are still flashing away however. This has happened twice now in a day. Is this common, for Gridseeds to need babysitting? I had to power cycle the Gridseed, then plug/unplug USB 2 or 3 times restarting cgminer 2 or 3 times to get it back into action.

(some people mention not to plug the USB cable in until after cgminer has started.. but for me it is the opposite which works - i.e. need to plug it in before starting cgminer)

Incidentally, this problem coincides with me switching to a 5m USB cable (was using 1m before)... I wonder if that could be the cause. I never got this "OFF" error on the 1m cable but then again I'd only been using it for 2 days anyway.

Just a report: Got mine today 1 lol, but it got up and running scrypt quickly and saw 367 k/h @ 750 Freq.  on LTC pool, and now am mining  Dnotes  at almost 300 so far. Not to bad for 8 watts. Next I'm going to try BTC on CEX.IO. I think I have to install that WCID to use 3-8-5 miner. Will check in later  Wink

To all: I started a design competition to design a modular 3D printable mounting solution (STL file) for the GC3355.  I already have a couple of really great designs that are worth looking at.  If there is interest I will start a new post for comments since this is not really a tech support topic or you can just comment directly on the competition (or PM me with comments).   http://www.cadcrowd.com/contest/678-modular-5-chip-gridseed-miner-enclosure

I would buy #3 right now, if it were available. Very cool design.

Thanks guys. I'm sure I can spread them out enough over the PCIE and Molex.

Does anyone know how many Gridseed Miners I can put on a Molex/SATA/PCIE cable from a standard ATX power supply? I am running only scrypt mode around 10w each miner. I can't stand how loud the cheap switching power supply I have is and want to use a quieter power supply. I have 10 miners right now pushing 100watts. I have a spare PSU lying around with molex/sata/pcie conncections I can cut up. Thanks!

In Scrypt only mode (if you run in anything else, you will melt the wires):

3 per molex (about the same power draw as a DVD burner, or 15000 RPM drive during spinup), but I would limit it to 6 per wire coming out of the PSE (usually there are 3 molex per wire).

PCI-e: 6 pin is rated for 75 watts, 8 pin is rated for 150 watts. Both have 3 yellow (12 volt) wires. In theory they are capable of the same wattage per wire, but you never know, so keep to the rated power capacity. Thus, or a 6 pin, each yellow wire can supply 25 watts, and on a 8 pin, each yellow wire can supply 50 watts.

I would be comfortable with 3 miners per yellow wire on a 6 pin, and 5 miners per yellow wire on an 8 pin.

I had an old 1000w PSU laying around, so I just cut the PCIe cables and wired them in. I have 20 running now. Wired 7 each to 2 of the cables and 6 on 1.

I have 40 wired into a single Dell 750W server power supply.
(should be 50 tonight)

How many are wired to each PCIE/Molex, etc? I don't want to overload a single cable.

You need the 12v line from each. Running scrypt only, you can probably get away with 10 on each 6 pin PCIe, molex I am not sure about.

Somethings not right,
First I'm trying to use Scrypt guild.

without the --scrypt in the command line it does not recognize the shares

Then when I have 30 Gridseeds going it never sees more than 5Mh when I think I am sending 10Mh

Using this command line:
Bfgminer -S gridseed:all --set-device gridseed:clock=850 --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://stratum.scryptguild.com:3333 -u joeventura123 -p anything

again note without the --scrypt  it does not see a single share.

Ideas?

Where can I get a Windows Binary of Cgminer? Maybe I'll have better luck with that?

http://cryptomining-blog.com/1262-download-cgminer-3-7-2-for-windows-scrypt-mining-on-gridseed-5-chip-gc3355-asics/

I am running 20 of them. You have to unplug your USB hub and let cgminer start. Then plug the USB hub in once cgminer loads.

As far as scryptguild, my cgminer says I am at 7.2 MH/s while scryptguild says 5.2 MH/s.

And you are Ok with scryptguild only giving you credit for 5.2?

Not really, but posting in the Scryptguild thread on here did not get me any help.

That's actually real good to know.

They look really nice (#3 make them in LEGO colors) - post it to HashSwap.com under Rig Builders when you are ready.

Can someone tell me what the RED and GREEN lights on the Gridseed units are for?
Both of my lights flash intermittently while running... Everything appears to be fine but I was wondering what these lights are used for and how to tell when something is not right.

Thanks

Joe, I think you need to compile it on a windows box... Not sure if there is ready exe available for download yet.

Yeah thats not happening.

Will happily pay someone to get that working.

Takers?
