Just got an email from SB a few minutes ago:

"We are working very hard to make the best of this situation. We cannot
release details at this time, but as soon as possible we will post an
update to the thread."

I don't think SB has done us wrong yet. Hopefully he has a update coming tonight.

Just sent and email and PM to Steamboat formally requesting full refund of my batch 4 chip order and a partial refund of the assembly/test/shipping.

I also practically begged him to update the thread here...

Also fuck it I'm posting this everywhere. Mail, pm, and in topic.

Code:
Dear steamboat,

I'm hereby requesting the refund of the bitcoins I paid for the 219 Avalon chips from Batch 4. I suggest a 95% refund of the paid amount of 18.834 BTC, just like SebastianJu is doing, so that you receive a fee for the 'service' you have provided.

This makes a refund of 0.95*18.834 = 17.892 BTC to be sent to 14XgpohWGqXY5aaFKexnpfRtFDWsQpJQMw.

My sending address was 1N72G2Go7h32FzKF8k9vGZUvMwytRVFQP3, this is not where I want to receive the BTC but this message is signed with my sending address.

Thanks in advance.

The lack of updates from steamboat astonishes me. Look at Zefir, look at SebastianJu. They're active to get this thing sorted out _right now_, and securing significant amounts of bitcoins in the process. For all we know, steamboat, you're doing fuck all. You need to keep us updated on what you're doing and on how we can request refunds from you.

Steamboat, you need to get the refunds going for the eligible batches. You know Yifu is not going to send the late batches, but is only going to try and fill the late orders.

Can we please have another update, Steamboat? There have obviously been significant developments since your last update.

I understand it's Labor Day weekend, and you are no doubt busy or spending time with family. I also realize it takes time to formulate at thoughtful reply.

Yet during these turbulent times, frequent updates really ARE required. Sorry to inconvenience you. I think most of us really are trying to be patient. But we've waited a long time, and some sort of possible resolution seems to be at hand. I really think time is of the essence here.

Thank you for your continued and prompt support in this matter.

That's a shame.

I only told about this tax stuff because I noticed I didn't pay any VAT both times when I ordered microcontrollers from pololu (it was declared educational electronics, which they are).
So at least for anyone in Norway they could get it VAT free by using the correct declaration (educational eletronics).

Found it!

Indeed, for Norway at least (EEA member) there is a VAT exemption for products that are of an educational, scientific, or cultural type.
And yes, there's no customs fee on electronics either, so that should mean 0 VAT and 0 Customs Tax, at least for me. And that is only if
the product has this specificed on the customs declaration (educational electronics).

Quoted from norwegian law in Norwegian. I think it may translate ok in google translate or some such.

We have it also, but need to have registered noneprofit organisation (which are tax and vat free).
It can not be done for inovice addressed to individuals regrdless of descrption.

I also really dont know what to do. I want to sell it and I want to keep it. I am in EU and will pay 25% VAT on order. Damn.
I can imagine how Steve feel....we should stick together and find a best scenario. I know that emotion does not have in any business but still....

Steve, please update us (and hang on).

You sure if Steamboat put on code on shipping declaration this is Educational Electronics Parts... At least in my country that is VAT exempt (in EU), and this has been educational for many of us (and will continue to be) Wink

VAT is not customs fee. I dont need to pay customs fee for electronic is 0%, but VAT (25%) we need to pay (value added tax). Here we dont pay for books.

+1 for refund.
Group Buy #2

--

I think that you should have emailed out to the buyers, rather than us having to find your post days later...

I hope that you will email us all with details how to move forward?

You were perfectly able to send out an email campaign when you announced your payment gateway for the assembly... but this burning hot issue did not warrant an email?

I'm holding onto my original decision when I purchased chips and paid for assembly.  Once the chips finally arrive, I would like my miners.

same here

Im at an impasse personally. I could pay the extra ~$500 and get the heatsink / fans for my klondikes and stick with assembly in batch #4, OR I can try to get a refund for my 256 chips, refund assembly that didn't happen (which isn't confirmed, but best business practice), and eat the cost of the BOM materials. Im not sure which would leave me with more money. Time to math.

EDIT: We need compensation, discount on the chips, partial refund, whatever if this is going to even remotely be better than a full refund. I've chosen full chip refund pending confirmation of refund of assembly cost (not parts).

As anyone here considered the idea that refunds for batches before the cutoff date are NOT "optional"? Remember, Yofui hasn't explicitly said he WILL ship earlier batches if refunds aren't requested.

Think about it. He's offering refunds for those orders he missed delivery on. But he's NOT refunding later orders, because he thinks he can fill them. He may well have been advised by legal counsel that this is his best course of action - to refund orders he's missed, and ship the orders he can produce on time.

The problem is if he fills earlier orders that don't want refunds, then he risks pushing later orders into "past due" status. BitSynCom has been anything but predictable, but I doubt they will fill earlier "refund eligible" orders before filling the orders they can still manage to deliver on time. It seems like they are FINALLY in risk management mode, and I'm betting their focus is going to be on filling the later batches. They may well wait to ship "refund eligible" orders till the chips are plentiful, thinking "Hey, we offered them a refund…"

Just thinking out loud here… as we have seen, anything is possible.

Unfortunately we are often left to guess for our specific situations, would it not be better to have direct communications? Whatever happened to emailing people individually about their orders especially when they cost 80K.
