I intended for this update to be flashier, but here it is.

A Florida based assembly house has been secured for assembly. Final pricing is TBA once the Letter of Intent has been signed, but know it will be under $60 and 72 hour turnaround from delivery to me.

I'll be back in the office much later tonight to answer any questions you may have and record purchases.

Enjoy,

Steamboat

Hi

Is this for the k16 or k64?

Thks

The K16.

What about the K64? Smiley

Quotes for the K64 and K1 are on their way. The K16 is priority as it will be the bulk of the boards, and can be easily used as a k64 w/ the Klego adapters.

Bravo!  Professional and well-planned as usual, steamboat.
Fantastic to hear that you have a arranged for assembly nearby and that testing will be available - I'll be taking you up on that offer.
And the price so far is excellent.

One seemingly trivial question - what color are the boards?
I'm guessing green as that's usually the least expensive.
Would also be nice if we could get a steamboat bitmap into the silkscreen file before boards are made Wink

Thank you for the kind words, from you and the other who are supporting this project.

Unfortunately, the boards will be green. I wrestled with this as I would have really liked to go with a different color, but in the end this project places functionality over form, and spending the extra dollars on a different color seemed excessive.

There will however, be a custom silkscreen made for this project by BkkCoins, to tie in with an as yet unreleased announcement.

Uh ... so there's a good chance these'll online before Avalon batch 3s then?

Yes. The plan is as follows.

In the days prior to chip delivery, the PCB and parts will be delivered and loaded in preparation for the run.

Once the chips are delivered, I am transporting the chips personally to the fab shop in a safe and legal manner, which is located a couple hours away.

Assembly will begin the day the chips arrive, if they arrive early enough in the day, otherwise work will start the following business day.

The assembly shop can produce one board per 6 minutes. The slowdown will be board testing to ensure functionality. (A testing process has not yet been developed, and will cost extra per board. You may choose to opt out of board testing)

I have arranged for end-of-day pickup of all completed boards each day, which will then undergo shipping with no additions, kitting and shipping, final assembly and shipping, or hosting, depending on the option selected.

It is possible for those who ordered early in each batch will have completed boards in the mail 36 hours after chip delivery. I expect all packages to be shipped no more than 72 hours after delivery to the assembly house.

Great news!  Is there a way to see the expected shipping date of the batch 3 chips?

Not that I know of. 5/23/2013 + 9-10 weeks.

With the $35 estimated cost of the PCB and components, the current total is $95. Please note this does not include the heat sink, screws, standoffs, fan/s, usb cable, or power supply. Pricing for these items will be coming in over the next few days.

I see alot of interest on here for the K64's, but from my understanding we will have a working 16 before we have a working 64.

Im not sure I understand why people are interested in holding their chips for a 64 when it could be 1-2 months after a K16 is released.  Am I missing something here?

There's no reason to believe that BOTH will not be available before chips actually arrive. They're essentially the same circuit, the k64 just ties the circuits together on one pcb. Once the k16 has been tested, both designs will be released and available to manufacture through myriad different possible sources.

Okay, I had seen that and also that the update that the order had been placed, I wasn't sure what to take of that. Thanks.

Yeah, steamboat said he would purchase the order when half of it had been filled. So the order has already been purchased, just around 4000 chips have not been claimed from the order, yet.

Way to go Steamboat! Batch 3? Clearly the US is big and wide Smiley Only seen a part of it (Ohio) and it still was wide enough Smiley If you need K16 boards, let me know. I could even take them myself to the US.
