In the event we are successful in redesigning the board, and can negotiate a fair and competitive price for the chips to be used with a verifiable delivery date, all customers who purchased assembly will be credited the full value of the components reused in producing the new units, in addition to a heavily discounted rate for the balance.
(Emphasis mine.)

All customers, regardless of whether they request or receive the 25% assembly refund?

Is there a downside to opting for the 25% assembly refund? Or, is there a potential upside to not requesting it?

If a new chip is found to be useable on a modified k16 unit, would there be a further refund on parts which were purchased for this group buy, or a credit to those of us that stay the course?

Yeah, kind of insane that there is as steamboat said a "TON" of parts -- that apparently he is keeping, that you paid for.

I don't think this is the case.  I believe if you get the 25% refund, the parts will also be sent to you.

those customers which purchased assembly will have the option of receiving the components purchased for production of the original units if they so choose.
(Emphasis mine.)

It says it's an option, not the default. I suspect there would be a shipping charge for receiving the parts, since the most recent update says he's offering 100% refund of the shipping fees.

Terrahash said that they were making contact with Steamboat to get information on the 12C daisy chain firmware problem. I am not aware if LD has been able to iron out all bugs, but the update they sent a few days ago alludes to progress on the boards. It's possible that Terrahash and Steamboat could put their heads together and share notes. TH share their info on gettings 16 chips hashing, and Steamboat sharing a fix for the I2C bug. No one is sure what specifically is going on and what time frame it will happen in. Side note, I don't trust Yifu and I think his company is straddling criminal territory. If you put in for a refund, I wouldn't fret about it. Steamboat seems to be a solid guy and he has been fulfilling refund requests as we speak.

Thanks knightlife999,

This whole thing is really irritating. It was such a nice project. Too bad it did not work out.

Yes, I have put in for a refund a few days ago. I'm sure Steamboat is swamped with refund requests.

Personally, I'd rather have had the miners. I've looked at the firmware code, and while my programming experience was a while back, it appears there is a serious problem with the control function which switches on banks. As in, that function is not there, and there isn't a way to keep track of which bank is hashing the 0 bits, and which one is hashing the 1 bits....Bkkcoins used the the same preloading routine per bank of 8 chips, but it needs some sort of supervisory routine.

My guess is that if you tried to daisy chain K16's, you would need yet another higher level function to supervise the chain also.

At least, that is what I can tell from the code. It needs a higher level control structure, which is certainly beyond my limited expertise to fix.

Sadly, I've requested a refund.

Guess the naysayers won the day. Hope they're happy.

I assume y'all got an email notifying you of a refund?

Yes.

Did you get any kind of confirmation of your request before that, or just got refunded?

No.

Time to consider where to reinvest if at all...
Seems like the main options are KnC, Hashfast and cointerra
The mining calculators show negative ROI for the above except for cointerra (assuming you started mining in december- which seems unlikely)
Of course all this is conjecture based on current rate of $127 and continued rise in difficulty.
Anyone got any plans on where they are reinvesting steamboats refund or are the days of the little guy mining over?

Refund for batch 5 chips received here.

Steamboat: I appreciate your professionalism and continuing to slog it out for the best possible outcome given the atrocious circumstances. I know you are doing the best you can given the circumstances, and I appreciate the hard work. Hang in there. This nightmare will eventually come to a close, maybe with a silver lining.

Steamboat contacted me about not being able to sign a message through coinbase and we seem to have worked it out.

throughout this whole process he has been nothing but polite and above the board so all you people who have anything negative to say are self-entitled idiots Tongue

thank you steamboat!

Anyone else got a refund today?
I submitted the form from steambot's email on the same day I received it, but no reply nor other info..

Could you email me the form?

I'd advise against using other peoples information unless you trust them 100% and then some. Unless you *want* to get pished or something Tongue

Also, people who received the original e-mail, please do not send it to others whom you may not know if they are a batch member themselves. They may want your
original in order to create pishing e-mail which looks identical to the original mail.

can you spell out for me in plain english how i can get screwed using a refund form that someone else sends to me? its just a form isnt it? Im just going to be sending it to steamboats email?

the form submits your signature to a google doc directly.. so change email, and he cando your refund.

other note! got refund today!
Ya, but doesn't it have to match the sending address that was originally sent?... and wouldn't the BTC go back to the sending address, which was owned by the original owner anyway?

If the 'phisher' were to try and steal this, he would have to change the sending address to his own and sign from his own address which wouldn't match steamboats verification of the refund

it really depends on how well SB is doing the verification process, which given the delays - I am assuming he (or whoever is doing it) is checking closely
