List of Major Bitcoin Heists [...]

edit: lol, is it something like mastercoin lite?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=384097.0;all

Yes , it is the ultra lite version.
Get the money , run. =)))

Now really , can you do something about this amount of coin scams that are popping everywhere?
Some trust feedback , anything ?
I know that people who trust scammers are idiots but still , I feel sorry for some of them and possible future victims

You lead and I'll watch you walk away.
Yesterday morning my cex.io account was hacked and also my email. The hacker sold the GHS I had and withdrew the funds. I had deposited 10 btc into my cex account. My cex account is now frozen by cex and they are investigating – whatever that means. Does not cex have the obligation to make this right??

2FA should be mandatory, not an option. In addition, they need tighter security for withdrawals.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure CEX will pay you back. It's only $10,000 after all.

We need to inform even more people about security of Bitcoin. This will block bad news in the future.

I remember a good real life friend of mine was telling me about pirate before he scammed everyone and wanted to invest all his money with the guy. I was a non-bitcoiner then and to me it just sounded like the most obvious ponzi scheme, so I will never understand how people fell for it to such a great extent.

Thank you for posting this work! So far I understand BTC is more traceable in the chain than cash in global circulation. What's to be done to improve security?

Security is a personal thing like it is with cash. You don't ask what can be done to a dollar bill to make it more secure in your wallet. Just don't carry very many in your wallet at once in case you lose it.

Thank you, I understand that 'eggs in a basket', I was really trying to understand the 3-way security used like escrow, I don't understand it properly. I have a lot of application for this if I can understand it?

Oh, I don't think most of these scams happened because of failure to use escrow.  The people that were scammed sent their coin to a service and the service didn't secure it or failed to properly secure their wallet. Here's a method for securing your wallet if you need one. https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com

As far as using escrow, there are fairly simple ways of doing it being developed. Not all of them are completed projects.

On a side note, if the heists are trackable, has anyone done any crunching to see how many bits of coin are lost or floating around? From lost wallets to abandoned fractional mining payments. Curious what this sum is worth and whether anything can be done - Also how this affects the inflation/deflation value of the coins.

The list is still full and I am going to PM theymos again. If it's not possible to add more posts, I'll start a new thread. Apologies for the delay in updating.

I also PM'd theymos, maybe just wait a bit, until the weekend at least. It would be more convenient to have everything in one thread instead of having it scattered among a few.

wow, i thought it was 40k.. well, he's been doxxed. he's probably got a lot of people after him. he's gonna have to pay a lot of bitcoin to get someone to protect him, otherwise this guy is gonna get killed.

btw, these bitcoins were lost/scammed, but they're not out of circulation.
